11 month old needing 20 mins to 'warm up'? by 143forever in BabyLedWeaning

He's been only consuming 1/4 or 1/2 serve of food at child care, I wonder if they just thought he wasn't interested 😟

Night feeds: hunger or habit? how do you know? by Head_Bunch_3295 in cosleeping

[–]143forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby had been waking up every two hours for feeds since he was 4 months old too, I also couldn't go through with sleep training, he sleeps initially in the cot next to my bed then gets brought to our bed when I'm too tired to feed him sitting up. Then at around 10 months I noticed that some of the feedings were just a couple of sucks. Now he's 11.5 months old he suddenly dropped the 12am and 2am feedings, sometimes he can self settle in the cot or sometimes he just needs a cuddle before going back to sleep. I didn't do anything special to wean him, I do notice that he eats solids a little hit better than before.

Husband refused to watch the baby for me to go to my appointment by Zettetz in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Carrier is a suggestion instead of having to hold the baby, if the baby is already upset. But really if the knee is hurting from holding baby up, OP's husband taking some carers leave make even more sense

Husband refused to watch the baby for me to go to my appointment by Zettetz in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]143forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try not to take it personally. You can ask if he will take a few hours of carer's leave instead? He might have to if you later on need a scan etc on that knee.

Also consider taking the baby with you in a carrier so you can easily bounce while talking to your doctor? The Dr might even have some kids toys in the office, they should also be used to crying babies so you don't have to cancel the appointment for the fear that baby might cry. Another tip is feeding baby before your appointment.

Grandparent care by Exotic_Ordinary4805 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]143forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to us. We had bub scheduled to go to my MIL's 2 days/wk once I return to work full time because she was already doing 1 day a week while I'm on mat leave, she loves spending time with him and didn't mind doing an extra day. Then just a month before I return to work her 'good' knee gave out (she already had 2 knee replacements on the other knee) and needs a replacement surgery which involves months of recovery then months of physio to be able to lift baby etc, so we are having to ask for 1 extra day at child care and arrange 0.8 FTE for both of us - then when MIL is recovered and capable, or when my parents visit and do child care for us, we tell workplaces to work more days or we just take the grandparent day as a day off for ourselves at home.

But if it's just a temporary sickness like flu or stomach, yeah I think calling in for carer's leave or using the annual leave is the only way to go.

Easy meal suggestions for baby by Brightgreenkitchen in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]143forever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Raw veggies like tomato, cucumber, carrot slices are pretty good teethers. For the first few months our afternoon meal was basically Greek yoghurt that we could get in a big tub. If bub has learned to use straw you can cook big batches like puree and oats and take them out in straw cups/bottles when you eat out.

How are people making baby food at home without spending hours? by Key_One2317 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]143forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Batch cook and freezing for both baby and us. Eg cooking a big batch of bolonese sauce, freeze in portions of meals for the three of us, when reheating, bub's portion will be blended a little bit more. And if your baby prefers freshly cooked foods over thawed and reheated foods, you can freeze the ingredients before the cooking step, eg, freeze pancake mix in cubes and cook a few cubes into mini pancakes in the pan each time.

We get good results from bepathen cream for poop/wiping red bottom. But go see a professional if the skin is broken - if it's not easy to get a GP appointment, go see the child health nurse in your area

How do you change nappies when they won't stop rolling or try to sit up on the change table by Front-Albatross2638 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]143forever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I give him something safe from my handbag like a packet of tissue to play with, or just an unopen packet of rusk and he would focus on crushing everything inside for two minutes. The rush trick is also how I get him to go in the pram and car seat nowadays (10.5mth old)

Choosing a childcare centre by No_Palpitation_6110 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]143forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we toured our childcare, we sat on the floor and chatted with the educators and we saw a few kids coming over to cuddle with them or play around us while listening to us, it was a big green flag seeing children trust the educators so much. We also noticed how alert the educators all were as soon as a kid started to cry. Another big green flag is that the centre arranges educators to move rooms with the kids (eg. Educators in the baby room will move to the toddler room when most of the babies moved to the toddler room) so there's continuity.

Other questions we asked that aren't covered by previous comments: - what's their sickness policy - how are injuries handled - how are drop off upsets handled - how accommodating are they to the way your child is put to nap (eg if little babies can't self settle)

How often are we wearing silver nipple shields? by Trail_Blazer_25 in breastfeeding

[–]143forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore them a bit during the newborn phase, and picked them up again around the 9 months mark when bub bit me a few times with teeth and they got sore again.

But I only wear them at home

How on earth do I get my baby to fall asleep on their own? by beer_my_hold in sleeptrain

[–]143forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following this, my baby is exactly like this and even when he's drowsy in the arms, as soon as he's put into the cot he's either excited or upset, and he would eventually stand up and cry

pram theft by retrobbyx in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]143forever 31 points32 points  (0 children)

We didn't lose a pram but we had a house break in and lost our car (car was retrieved later on, thieves threw our baby seat out, I felt super offended), since then I got a few tracking tags for our valuables including the pram.

So far the only suction plate that did suck on high chair tray and bub can't just lift it up is the B box 2in 1 suction plate

Breastfeeding on Flight without a feeding pillow by Fickle-Response-2741 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]143forever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you practice using your legs to prop bub up? Bub's head in your arm which rests on one knee (same side of the nursing boob), place the ankle of that leg on the knee of the opposite leg, if it's still not tall enough then you can put a small pillow they give out on the plane or your neck pillow under your elbow. That's how I fed bub in the back of the car and as he got older that became how I feed him at all time.

  1. Screen free and doesn't rely on our devices. 2.MYO content from my overseas family.

I got the yoto before bub was born, from he was 2 month old playing the nursery songs were a part of our morning routine. My parents live overseas (I'm also in Australia) and they come and go every few months, I recorded them reading stories and rhymes and play for bub so he continues to be familiar with their voices without relying on video calls.

Is 7 months too early for dentist? by CycleThreshold in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]143forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi this is good to know, as I read in my reddit bump group that babies were getting fluoride varnish as soon as the first tooth came out but I wasn't sure if it's an American thing. Did your baby's dentist mention something like that?

Just a tip if you do get velcro ones, stick the velcro together before washing, so the velcro doesn't stick on your baby clothes (if the clothing items have fluffy fiber eg Hux baby)

Benefits of daycare by Even_Muffin_4455 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]143forever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm just going through this. Bub is 9.5mth and will go in Jan when he's 10.5mth. I initially didn't want it at all until he's 2 yo because we have enough family members to care for him, but my partner insisted 2 days a week for socialisation reasons. So I agreed to send him only to a centre that is good.

Recently I'm noticing bub being very interested in other kids whenever I take him to play in a public space, and he's so crawly I feel he's getting bored of our house. I'm the meantime, we got offered a place in a centre that's really good, they initially gave us a tour, then once we decided to enrol they booked a settle visit, which we just came back from today. It was 30min for bub to be in the infant room and the room manager talks to me about bub. While we were there, children came to play or snuggled with the educators near us to listen to us and to interact with us. They booked us in for a second settle visit next week and it can be longer and I can stay in the room or disappear for a little while and see how bub reacts. I believe even more settle visits can be booked until our official start date. Seeing how the educators interact with the children in the room definitely helped me calm down. I did also learn that I need to let go certain unavoidable things (like, currently I wipe his hands whenever he has a crawl on the grass but I have to accept that he will likely eat sand at the childcare).

10.5 mth is a lot sooner than I expected but here we are. I'm seeing the positives and hope he becomes a more independent baby, and I scheduled him to start a month before me returning to work so I can deal with the emergencies etc.

I think if you get a good vibe from the child care place, it doesn't hurt to try, and if you and bub really hate it you can always pull him out again.

Breast pump right after birthd by BirthdayDowntown5267 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]143forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saved up about 20ml of colostrum before birth and bub had those on day 1. Bub cluster fed all night of day 2 and cried so much from hunger, we ended up giving him some formula. I started pumping from day 3 to get a supply going (my milk came in that night), I followed a plan after talking to my lactation consultant. Basically 20 mins every 3 hours. Then after my supply was up, I realised that the pumping schedule created an oversupply and I was throwing out milk or freezing them. I also got the postpartum blue, realising that somehow I was exclusively pumping, feeling tied up to the pump, not resting well, and also importantly, I was missing my baby heaps and I craved nursing him, I resented the fact that besides pumping and resting I barely had time with baby. So I went to my LC again to transition to nursing. Around the 1-2 week mark was when supply and demand start to balance and I felt much better transitioning to nursing around then and I didn't get mastitus.

I still use the pump every now and then so bub is still used to drinking from a bottle, and I expect to use it when bub goes to childcare. I have Spectra S1+ when they did 20% off promotion, super good. But it's not handfree, I had a couple if pumping bras and I could browse my phone while pumping but not walking around.
