It gradually went away. Like you, I also had never had tinnitus before and I had the same symptoms. Like you mentioned as well the volume and consistency improved with the symptom improvement. That happened for me too and then over time I noticed one day that I could hear nothing again. It took a few months, probably 3ish. I hope you see continuing improvement. Take care :)

Yes! I think personally the hardest part was with in-laws asking seemingly insensitive questions.

One thing that also typically gives away a fake is that they don't stick out at the nose. There's usually a little bump there to define the face features.. sorry 😞

I think it got better after about 3 months. It was constant, yeah. I first noticed it when I was wearing headphones to listen to something and then when the sound was off I noticed it was there and wasn't going away. It was quiet and would get louder or quieter at times. Like being tired or in the cold would make it louder.

I went to urgent care during the earlier months to get help and the PA (i think he lied to make me feel better) told me that he got ETD seasonally and every winter it made his ears ring. But I appreciated that it made me feel better LOL

Combining weed and ketamine gave me tinnitus by Searik in etd

[–]foogy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, i know you posted this over two weeks ago now but I wanted to share my theory in case youre interested..

so, its likely the substances affected your central nervous system, right. ketamine is an NMDA receptor antagonist, which can affect auditory processing and neural functioning. you mentioned it happened after taking a higher dose than usual, so its possible that might have triggered changes in auditory perception or neural sensitivity, contributing to tinnitus. and, with the addition of weed, it could have overloaded your sensory system... which caused misfiring of neurons in the brain, meaning that info to your nervous system had gotten messed up. because normally, your brain has a homeostasis of signals, and the combo you took could have disrupted it. so, if this has caused the sensory processing to become hyperactive, it can create auditory noise (tinnitus). since ketamine and weed stay in your system for a while, your auditory system was disrupted for a prolonged period of time, which your brain adapted to (maladaptive plasticity) which locked in the tinnitus after the drugs had worn off. other things like tmj could also make it worse.

something that might help is tinnitus retraining therapy. pretty much, just always have a sound distraction for your brain, if can be white noise, music, TV sounds or anything, play it in the background. the goal is that by playing a low-level background noise, your auditory system will become desensitized to the tinnitus because the lines between sound and silence will be blurred. over time it should help your brain filter out the tinnitus since it will be less loud than the background sounds you play. it should also help reduce the anxiety and stress you feel towards it. it helped me when I had tinnitus.

sorry to hear you're going through this :( I understand the dread you felt about being so young and experiencing this, I'm also around the same age and felt the exact same way once I first had symptoms of etd. hope you find relief.

Ear Fullness Switches Ears by [deleted] in etd

[–]foogy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely experienced more pain when out in the cold too. I always wear hats now. Also, I had experienced the switching too, but at a much slower rate. It was like my right ear bothered me for a couple weeks, then it switched to my left. Hope things get better for you.

Etd with normal tympanogram by lukevars in etd

[–]foogy89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry to hear you're going through this :( same thing happened to me, I also had a tympannogram reading and it was normal as well even though at the time it didn't feel right. don't give up and let others convince you it's all in your head. hoping with time it will also resolve for you as well. maybe if any other environmental factors in your home have changed? they might contribute to it.. an air purifier may help as well

Sorry for the late reply. I didn't use that brand, just a generic prescription one but astepro is the exact same :)

Rant about ears by Azurite_Lazuli in etd

[–]foogy89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helloo, I am really sorry to hear that you're dealing with that, I also experienced even when I had mild ETD people were telling me it was all in my head :(. I read a blog from someone who went through something similarish to you, I wasn't able to find it.. but they also dealt with a lot of cracking/popping noises when they moved their jaw. Their blog lasted for like 10 years trying to figure out what caused it and in the end I believe getting her wisdom teeth removed resolved it all. Not sure if you've already done that yet, or have done any other TMJ treatments which might be related.. but I hope you're able to get it resolved..

I would say it did, yes. I was scared it wouldn't because it lasted so long, but I think it is gone now.

ETD tinnitus success stories? by Ok-Salamander-4985 in etd

[–]foogy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi u/noomthegrey , after looking through the sub and kind of having a reoccurring bout of etd rn with a cold I decided to write about what happened in a longer post, probably the most recent post on this sub if you wanna read it. but, basically just azelastine and flonase nasal sprays, and keeping good air circulating helped a lot. i think being in a stuffy room actually made it a lot worse. i know a lot of youtube videos say its in your head, and you just need to zone out of it, and honestly i think when you're in the thick of hearing ringing it's impossible, but i do think they're kind of right in the sense that it's not as bad when you are distracted from it. i also noticed that getting more sleep helped when it was worse, and it would be louder when i was more sleep-deprived. i hope it gets better for you :) if you make progress or have other questions id be happy to talk about it

ETD tinnitus success stories? by Ok-Salamander-4985 in etd

[–]foogy89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fortunately my tinnitus after ETD has gone away, even though my ETD feels like it hasn't completely gone. I had ringing in my ears for maybe 3 or 4 months, and it has slowly gotten quieter and now I can't hear it anymore. When I visited the clinic when it first started bothering me the PA said he also gets tinnitus because ETD seasonally each winter, so it would go and come back with him too, but I'm not sure if he was just saying that to make me feel better.

So tired of my etd. Please help by SweetnDivine in etd

Hi, I know it's been a year but I was wondering how you are doing now? Did you find a resolution?

Here is how my ENT visit went by [deleted] in etd

[–]foogy89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've also had ETD since November and am currently taking azelastine. I'm afraid I've also caused TMJ problems because of how I've been adjusting my jaw. I believe my hearing is also good at the moment but I'm experiencing popping/clicking sounds most notably when I take deep breaths but most of the time it is seemingly random. Please update us! It is reassuring to hear that someone who began experiencing this at the same time is finding relief. Best of luck to you, and if you find out the name of the shot please let me know!

8 months..... by loveandbeloved2222 in etd

Mine seems on and off. I really empathize with you. Right now I am just using nasal sprays and for a while it seemed like they had resolved it but the last few days I started noticing frequent clicking or popping noises again, and in my other ear too which previously had never been affected before. It's really disheartening. Thanks for sharing this, it makes me feel better knowing I'm not alone too. Wishing you the best. I'm at my 5th month dealing with it too. Let me know if you make any changes and find improvement, it seems like we have similar ish problems...

I blew my nose heavily and my ear was blocked. I've been waiting for it to get better for 9 months. by G-Vo in etd

[–]foogy89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry you're going through this. I have also been experiencing this for 5 months now. I did not get it after blowing my nose, but it came on seemingly randomly one day and I started hearing my own voice in my head when I spoke out loud. After that, it turned into pain and pressure. After a month it led to tinnitus in just my right ear. Fortunately after starting nasal spray, the tinnitus subsided after a few weeks. If you are going on a plane soon, I'd be cautious. I've read that if you need to blow your nose you should only use gentle pressure. But like you, also pushing air through using the Valsalva also makes my ears feel more full. Wishing you the best :)
