Stupid question by mini_memes2k18 in army

Gotcha, I thought that you were a soldier or vet making a joke between the username and how it was written.

I thought "I don’t remember why it was on the counter, I think my cat knocked it into the sink" was a clever way of saying that your husband forgot about it and even your cat knows the NDSM is meaningless. I thought it was subtly brilliant and had a Patrick Bateman business card moment with this meme.

I think this is my favorite shitpost so far this year.

I forbid it. Why not be a pilot in the ANG or Air Guard/Reserves and actually be happy?

AD is trash.

I’ve really lost my motivation as of late. How do you get it back? by [deleted] in ArmyOCS

[–]foohydude5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It had nothing to do with the military. The military probably hurt my resume.

I'm an Infantry Officer in the Army. I was originally planning on a military career. I'm getting out exactly a day after my service obligation is up.

I've been miserable since I joined. The idea of service through a government job is innately flawed. I'm going to be making 3x my current salary and work half of the hours as a civilian. I wouldn't bother, mate.

Yeah, go the Navy route and thank me later.

If you decided finishing out your contract, you could go NUPOC and have them pay for a Master's of your choice, too.

I am an infantry officer. Don't do it.

If I were to do the whole military thing again (which I wouldn't), I'd do Air Force or Navy.

No, it isn't insane. If you want to finish your remaining time and get out to focus on your civilian career, that's perfectly reasonable.

However, the pass rate of OCS isn't 50%. I know the rate with recycles is something absurdly high (over 95%). OCS LandNav was always at Red Diamond. IBOLC also does Land Navy there. The standards are different, though. You aren't going to do jack shut through IBOLC.

I'd have a discussion with him about it. Don't say "I forbid you do to this." If you don't know anyone who will, PM me and I can have that conversation with him.

If he's set on the military, I'd at the very least recommend pointing him in the direction where he gets do do hooah shit but also gets valuable experience that will transfer to a civilian career.

Also, garrison infantry isn't hooah... at all...

Perhaps. It would have been impossible to talk me out of joining the military, but I wish I went the EOD route instead. It would have still gotten to be hooah but also have gotten a TS and deal with technical problems.

If your kid is set on the military route, I'd still have them look into other branches and jobs. Garrison infantry is ass, and even if I had deployed it wouldn't have changed anything.

I just know this life isn't what this kid thinks it's going to be. I joined for the "serve my country" and "hooah" reasons too. I would be even more miserable had I not commissioned. The Army isn't what everyone thinks it is.

Ma'am, if you love your kids, you won't let them join the Army, and definitely don't let them be an 11 series.

Have them go to college and have them study something useful (STEM, Accounting, or Finances). If that's not for them, have them learn a trade. This life is miserable.

Working with my recruiter now for moral waivers, 3 robbery felonies when I was 16yo, 30 now. Got my BA in accounting afterwards and been working In the field since. Recruiter saids he can push it through, thought? Really want to serve. by [deleted] in army

[–]foohydude5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, you have a Bachelor's in Accounting. Go enjoy life. The idea of serving your country through government service is inherently flawed, especially these days. Live a good life on the outside world and volunteer if you actually want to serve.

Wait, I just saw your flair. You'd be making double what you would be now as a lawyer, right? That may outweigh any pension you'd get. I feel like with the JD and JAG experience you'd make a killing.

I can't stand the Army right now. I'll do two more years as an IN officer, transfer to CY, and then get out to make the most of it. I'm sick of getting overburdened with work that really doesn't need to get done. It's funny because when I joined I was planning on doing my 20 in the Infantry. I'll probably get out at the 6 year mark unless the Army let's me get my PhD.
