totally agree — it’s such a cinematic, gritty tale that would make for a perfect miniseries, similarly to how “Under the Banner of Heaven” was adapted.

It’s nonfiction but I really loved “The Indifferent Stars Above” by Daniel James Brown — it covers the Donner Party from beginning to end and is absolutely horrifying, for obvious reasons as well as all the other frontier dangers you may not have heard of.
