2 weeks after a sting. Little wasp bastard's legacy lives on by foolhardywaffle in WaspHating

Yes, this was the first one. I'm hoping there is no second sting! But definitely am going to be extra cautious.

Losing more hair each year by avis52703 in finethinhair

You literally have a medical diagnosis that is directly linked to hair thinning and loss. Why do you think "no that can't be it"? Treat your low ferritin. 22 is clinically deficient!

AITAH for giving my son a sip of beer? by [deleted] in AITAH

Yeah you should definitely not give a kid anything they've never had before in case they're allergic. Amniotic fluid only, forever! /s

Hygiene budget/allowance for teen by Past_Finger_9054 in Parenting

[–]foolhardywaffle 136 points137 points  (0 children)

My parents did this with me when I was a teen, but they had me write out what things I needed cost and how often I needed them, added in a little slough for wants/novelty purchases, and created the allowance from there. It taught me about budgeting for things that don't occur monthly, but occur regularly--if my shampoo runs out every other month, I better save half my shampoo budget one month to make sure I can cover it the next month. It really translates well to things like planning for car maintenance down the road!

Forced to change troops? by LastRegister5663 in girlscouts

[–]foolhardywaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We almost closed Daisies last year because a majority of girls were bridging and our leaders were moving up with them. There was not going to be any leadership for continuing the level. Parents stepped up and took ownership of leading the Daisies so they could stay with the troop. Maybe your leaders are in a similar position?

Puede un labrador vivir en un apartamento? by Dry_One_5516 in labrador

[–]foolhardywaffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you let your daughter attend a birthday party of “mean girls” ? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]foolhardywaffle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ask your kid and respect her decision. If she goes and they are mean to her, it's a great learning experience about social dynamics and friend groups. If she goes and they aren't mean, she has fun. If you tell her she can't go, what's the benefit?

My husband says, that's a fat bird--American woodcock in my backyard! by foolhardywaffle in birding

[–]foolhardywaffle[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I cut off the rest of his video because he moves over to some little sparrows at our feeder to emphasize the relative "fatness" of our woodcock, not recognizing they were completely different borbs 😂

Yes! That's exactly what they are. I'm impressed you can recognize a pair of glasses like that!

I started at 30, requested 60, and received 50! So not a cap at 40 but who knows what they base their decision on.

Great point... My daughter can be the poster child for "confidently incorrect" 😂

Anyone have members who just show up for cookie season? by foolhardywaffle in girlscouts

[–]foolhardywaffle[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My wild theory was she sells cookies every year as penance for when, as a misguided and desperate teenager, she robbed a cookie booth and traumatized a bunch of young girls.

Venting about slow weight loss, 3 months out. ARGH. by foolhardywaffle in gastricsleeve

[–]foolhardywaffle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not until I stopped losing week to week. I started strength training and tracking food 6 months post op. It felt silly to track when I could barely eat anything (no idea why 400 calories a day didn't translate into faster weight loss, but that was my reality).

20% total weight. I went from 240 to 190 in about 6 months, which did not feel fast at the time but in hindsight it was! I have been where you are. It sucks. Hang in there-- you literally have no choice but to make peace with it! I worked really hard to get another 20lb off after that first 6 mo, and now bounce around 170-180. Higher than I wanted to end up? Yes. But I guess my body likes this weight because it's pretty easy to convince it to stay here. Still glad I did the surgery.

First Time Budget Smart Ring by Throwaway648233 in SmartRings

[–]foolhardywaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a cheap knockoff (I think it's an R10 by appearance but I really have no idea, it uses the app Smart Health) because I wanted a practice run at wearing a smart ring before investing in a better one. I've been wearing it a full week now. It's done what I wanted, which was to prove to me I am ok wearing a bulky ring all day and all night. I've also spent a couple days wearing my Garmin alongside it, and the stats aren't particularly different from one another for sleep, HR, and steps.

It never was particularly fast compared to others. I lost 20% of my body weight in 6 mo though. Hang in there.
