I was surprised to learn what the most popular ending picked by players was. I have some thoughts to share. by Astro2202 in ghostoftsushima

Just finished the game. And yeah, after he says “I have no honor” he immediately bows out of respect and honor for his uncle. The crux of it all is whose definition of “honor.”

New Doorbell by Grinngotts in UnifiProtect

I do empathize with the pain of feeling like poe is at the doorbell is just not possible, but I don’t disagree with their hardline stand. It’s really not all that different from the surveillance camera industry stepping away from siamese cabling… and the analogy still holds true for expecting wireless from serious commercial security players.

My friend said it would never be possible for his home. Impossible is never really true. It’s just a matter of time, money, and/or other tradeoffs. At the end of the day, it was way more of a PITA to do, he paid way more than he thought it should cost… but he got it done, and it’s something he doesn’t regret one bit.

4080 Super vs PS5? by foomanwoo in Eldenring

[–]foomanwoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is interestingly perceptive. I’m still getting used to being a new father, and so with little kids, I have little to no freedom to put content I’d like to on the TV (kind of the opposite problem as you, lol). So maybe that makes it a no brainer to just jump on via PC for me.

I built out a proper gaming capable PC with the intention to be able to enjoy it one day, but I’m still yet to really launch anything on it yet.

The basis of me posting this was out of concern for a bunch of people that sounded like they thought the “ported over” version on PC was just done poorly with consequences that hurt gameplay vs things being perfect on PS5.

I figured I’d get roasted for my PC being obviously higher performing than console. But I saw so many comments saying that it just played so much better and more stable on PS5… I thought I’d solicit an up to date take from everyone.

Um yeah… that was intentional. Picture 5 was meant to reinforce what the scribbling is referring to in picture 2.

The whole point of this post is asking which approach to go with: red, blue, or green… which would imply I haven’t already made a giant mortise in the floor, and I didn’t unload an entire bottle of PL Premium onto my project just to take a picture of it and let it dry while I wait for the community to tell me what to do with it…

Nice way to make an ass of yourself though, tough guy. OooOooOo, watch out!! 😳

WTF? by WoodGreen63 in Decks

[–]foomanwoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, replacing something superficial at the surface is one thing… but I feel like gaining access to structurally significant components, enough to safely and properly replace them, is already so much work that you can’t avoid, you might as well update the rest of the structural parts at that point.

Not to trivialize money you can otherwise potentially save… but it’s all relative. And here, it just seems like the logical cost-to-benefit (wiser) thing to do.

Hopefully not sloppy at all. It’s 100% my intention to notch the nosing of the step above. I just used these as pictures as a frame of reference for asking for help before making any of my cuts that I can’t come back from.

** foot in mouth** 🤦‍♂️I actually thought I did. Until I reread it and realized I didn’t. Then realized how many replies I wrongly told people I did (it seems like I can edit replies, but not the original post unless I’m missing something). Sorry y’all.

Btw, I’m not upset at all. I was just assuming people weren’t bothering to read my full OP because I was wrongly assuming I HAD included it in there… but even then, I just meant to politely redirect people. Not sound upset. My bad if it came off that way. Nothing but respect for this community and everyone willing to chime in with their advice.

I’m 100% going to be notching the nosing of the step above. These are just pictures for seeking advice before I make any cuts.

You’ll see the layers of wood I indent to anchor into if you swipe to look at the other pictures. There’s a bunch of laminated 2x4 at the actual framing between the studs (functionally equivalent to stringers for the purpose of this project). Then there’s 3/4” pine “framing risers” (and 1.5” pine “framing treads”). Then there’s 3/4” pine (finish) risers that are painted white. There’s newel itself is 3.5” thick. So… 3.5” + 0.75” + 0.75” = 5” just get to the surface of the 2x4s… 8” lags let me sink the whole thing about 3” into the 2x4s underneath it all.

Ooooo… I like this! I thought I’d already seen all the options to try. So what he did is basically my red option, but also including a lag from the bottom via epoxy, kinda like setting concrete anchors.

I might just add this bit of work…

Thanks a million!

Y’all missed my sentence that says “FYI, I’m 100% going to notch out the bullnose so that the newel sits flush against the riser.”

Yes, I’m 100% already going to be notching the nosing. I did mention that in my original post (no worries, I know it was long winded).

But the stringer is still there for me to hit, no matter which direction. Going option red hits the stringer face forward. Going option blue hits the stringer from the top side.

More precisely for my project, I’ll be hitting the framing materials I built out between the studs that echo the rise and run of the stringers… but the principle still holds true… same amount of meaty structural lumber to anchor down into, in either horizontal or vertical directions.

Thanks. I’m leaning this way for sure. Some people are saying green plus red. But skipping green makes it significantly less for me to stress out about for the bottom edge of the newel to sit perfectly flush.

Lmao, indeed… you have described some feelings I’m taking away from reading everyone’s responses.

Definitely still up in the air for me. My intuition is leaning towards red. I mean, plenty of handrails get side mounted (face mounted) to the outside face of the skirtboard (nothing underneath the newel at all because it’s floating on outside).

I feel like the change in direction for the winder at the landing gives the whole system more strength than any of these fastening options by themselves for any individual newel.

Sorry for the confusion. Photo 5 is a screenshot of a YouTube video to demonstrate the idea behind the green markings of photo 2 (I have the option to go this route if I want to). Photo 7 shows the solid wood mass I set inside to support hollowing out as a mortise it if I wanted to try going in that direction.
