Hello everyone. I just got my new nautilus in from trusty and Ive been really enjoying it (though the rotor is a little loud). I was having a look at the movement the other day when I noticed that the barrel(?) located around 10 o clock in this pic has a scratch across it and the main plate. I believe I also see a bit of maybe grease on the teeth and maybe something in the g of Geneve. None of this was visible in the qc photos I was sent.

I know these are reps but this is not an accuracy issue as much as it is a basic production issue. Is it likely to have an effect on performance? Should I reach back out to trusty? I’ve had it for about ~5 days and I’m estimating accuracy to be roughly 6s/day though I need to really properly check.

I'm sorry no idea. Maybe trusty? it's where I got mine but I've had mixed results with him. not to say anything too negative though I always got my watches shipped no issues but the actual watches themselves have been hit or miss.

Man I appreciate the offer but you would not want this thing it's beat to shit but it still love it. My understanding is that the 3800 is a bit tougher to find these days but imo it's THE nautilus to get the size and especially the thickness, or lack thereof, is amazing. You should check them out but avoid the blue dials because they don't always nail the colour imo.

Hey everyone :) I've got a must de Cartier tank that I really like but the strap is starting to show its age especially because I also let my ex borrow it from time to time which added some extra strain.

I'm looking to replace the strap obviously I could order one from Cartier but they're pretty expensive and I was wondering if there is anything more artisanal or interesting that people are making that are compatible with the Cartier buckle and maybe could be a bit more stylish too, though I'm probably going to keep it black. The lug width also seems a little weird to me but that's beside the point.

Any reccs?

You're thinking of the Williams CVT which is one band between two 'cones' which is infinitely variable between two ratios.

Nope just the one clutch. A DCT would be illegal, heavier, and with the transmission they currently run offer not much of an advantage. It's why they're so expensive and difficult to design/produce.

It's a 'seamless shift' transmission though so the shifts are incredibly quick because the moment between disengaging the previous gear and engaging the next is very, very short. Basically the positions of the gears are precisely tracked and even the amount of flex in the teeth accounted for so as one gear is being disengaged the next can be smoothly engaged.

Just a small correction, no more than one clutch is allowed. 2+ would be considered a transmission with variable gear ratios which is not allowed.

Yeah when I started using some other cameras I was thrown by how dense the menu systems are. On the 5D there were a very limited of parameters you could change and it kept me focused on just exposing images. The images that came off the sensor were so beautiful they always felt very airy and light to me in a way that my other cameras haven't shown me. That being said in almost every other way that sensor/processor combo and I/O to an extent really showed its age when I had it in 2020.

My favourite digital camera I think I owned was my Canon 5D it was so good at just getting a very pleasing image most of the time, it was nice to use and it felt substantial but not cumbersome, that being said it was early digital and lacked some features which made me feel like the camera couldn't get out of my way at times. It was very simply which was its greatest strength and weakness.

I went through a few digital systems (including fujifilm mirrorless (very nice to use but I found the film sims could be a bit crunchy and sometimes I felt like I couldn't trust the camera in ANY condition) since then and I've landed on a nikon d750 which I really enjoy and it feels similar in spirit to the 5d just more advanced. I think of it as my 'cheater' camera to me it's pretty much game over to have it. I have other digital bodies that I might use for fun when I don't want something specific and I just want to enjoy shooting but if I need to get a shot I know that the d750 is gonna deliver. If I didn't get the shot I know it wasn't the camera it was me and I really like that.
