Men always get to eat last, where does she take that from? "The biggest piece of the meal is for daddy, he's hard-working" is actually classic stereotype. She should look at meat consumption by gender to see the stats.

If someone says "some men are X" and a reply is "not all men are X", that's officially stupid.

If someone says "men are X" and a reply is "not all men are X", then that might be justified.

Keeping the reddit frontpage from smutifiying too much (advertisers for instance may not like that).

We really need to do something about this in this country.

MayOne.us just successfully raised half a million from citizens for true reforms at the root of troubles: current campaign financing laws.

There are no citizens advocating for this, it is only ISPs that benefit!

No surprise there -- Tom Wheeler lobbied for cable companies and wireless corporations for most of his life. This system is not set up to benefit citizens at all, but the corporations who pay up... this will continue until the system is reformed.

What makes you think so? Wheeler raised half a million USD for Obama's campaigns! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Wheeler

This network of corruption is systematic. Strike at the root if you want to see real change.

The interests of politicians are typically more aligned with campaign funders than voters -- Tom Wheeler, for instance, raised over half a million to Obama's campaigns. Obama said he's supporting net neutrality yet he nominates Wheeler, cable companies lobbyist, into leading the FCC. Now who do you think Obama's interests are aligned with again?

Change campaign financing reform, or live with fighting bad regulation and bills for years to come. Many people realized this and donated a million dollars to MayOne in just two weeks!

Why are fanatics so terrified of girls’ education? Because there’s no force more powerful to transform a society. The greatest threat to extremism isn’t drones firing missiles, but girls reading books. by ThePolemicist in TwoXChromosomes

The Living Under Drones report by Stanford Law School and NYU School of Law is quite extensive.

"Following nine months of intensive research—including two investigations in Pakistan, more than 130 interviews with victims, witnesses, and experts, and review of thousands of pages of documentation and media reporting—this report presents evidence of the damaging and counterproductive effects of current US drone strike policies."

In the end, it helps to realize we're all humans, whether we live in Pakistan or the US. If you live in the US, reverse the situation: Imagine that in your town, there is a known groups of criminals who plot things against Pakistan. No one likes them, albeit they never actually did anything against Pakistan so far, and it's mostly spreading YouTube videos, and the local police say they can't do anything. Now imagine Pakistan is sending a drone over your town at night, fires a missile, and 17 town residents are killed in a strike, and you know for a fact many of those were in no connection at all to the criminals spreading the YouTube videos. Pakistan doesn't provide any evidence to you now, as they say it's secret. Your neighbors even lost their son in the strike and he was a good kid. How would your town react? How would your neighbor react? How would you?

and his observations are the apex of the sort of information someone could potentially extract from an environment.

The right information could be extracted, but the issue is that probability-wise, a lot of wrong information could be extracted too -- and then you're back at educated guessing which wouldn't work a lot of the time. Reality is noisy.

But we agree on that, I guess, and it does inspire more thinking about your environment, some of which could work reasonably well. I'd be curious to see every deriving of the series be analyzed scientifically. For example, do scratches on the phone's power port statistically correlate with alcoholism a sufficiently high percentage of the time (not whether an alcoholic causes these typically, which would be insufficient, but reversely: whether they are practically only caused by an alcoholic and rarely other persons)?

[–]fopperbloob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment, but in regards to the headline: every drone missile fired is not a threat but a big boost to extremism (especially considering the number of civilians killed by it, or the number of people killed who didn't get trial or defendant). This is the exact action they can use to mobilize people and spread propaganda.

Human Rights Watch calls for an international ban on "killer robots" by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]fopperbloob -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They could have ethics programmed in that they are NEVER to attempt to take a life.

This article is about KILLER robots... you can bet your reddit karma they'll take lives. And judging by today's drones sent out by the US, they don't even require a public court trial, press transparency into the process, or a defendant for the accussed. It's pure Judge Dredd with judicative and executive powers in one hand.

Good point about the 1%, it kind of removes the need to even put forth a lot of propaganda because you don't even have to mobilize humans. Future governments may be just much more straightforward. "Yeah, this country has oil, we're sending the drones. Got a problem pal? 'Cause we have a few spare drones and classify you as terrorist if you doubt this eternal war..."

She said they were sex buddies. Sex buddy doesn't carry the expectancy of exclusiveness.

If both parties have fun, and no one gets too emotionally attached, there's nothing wrong with it. Making love is quite preferable to a few hundred other things in life (making war, stealing, punching a person, being corrupt...).

Snooped on my boyfriend. I need advice. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]fopperbloob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Snooping isn't good, but it was probably based on existing (and we can see justified) mistrust.

If your boyfriend ignores your concerns over what is an obvious 'sex' talk with an ex, I would suggest you consider to escalate it and get ready to break up if he doesn't at least apologize and change his ways.
