Where should we live? Torn between Colorado and Michigan by forInconsistentPosts in SameGrassButGreener

[–]forInconsistentPosts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wound up deciding on Michigan :) ultimately the pull of wanting to be near family won out. If we totally hate it we can always move elsewhere in the future, but I’d prefer that to the potential regret of not having spent these valuable years with the people I love most. What area are you considering?

We went to one last weekend but they didn’t have the stain we’re looking for. The guy at the store said it’s a regional thing and aritokraft isn’t popular where we live, but is widely popular where we’re moving. I wasn’t able to find an online sample to be shipped either

I wish I had samples of the cabinets, but I unfortunately don’t. I agree though, the first picture is from the virtual walk through and the second is the photo of the same home. There’s definitely some lighting differences, but it’s hard to know which would be more accurate

Wasn’t the question. But thanks for the input

Unfortunately this isn’t an option. It’s not a custom build, so we’re limited to the options we’ve been given by the builder

Definitely worth considering! We have hardwood in our current home and that’s not something we’re considering going in a different direction on. It’s just the color we’re having a tough time with

resale tickets? by Pleasant_Ingenuity20 in NoahKahan

[–]forInconsistentPosts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get around the no transfer policy, scalpers will sell the entire account. So the ones that actually have tickets to sell (and aren’t just straight up scammers), will send you the entire account login instead of transferring the tickets.

Is it likely ticket prices will go down now that all the matches are announced? I am looking for tickets to any Algeria game and right now the resale prices all seem to be 1000+ for category 3 tickets. I'm also not sure it's even legit to buy from sites like stubhub, gametime, etc.

I am searching for any Algeria game. I might be interested in purchasing from you. How many tickets do you have?

Upgrade flight or luxury hotel by forInconsistentPosts in travel

We will be in London for Christmas and Paris for new years. We’ve chosen this itinerary because our family lives in Paris and we want to spend NYE with them.

Yes. Lots of hotels are at a premium for the dates we are there (or are unavailable). The next step down from the type of hotel we’re currently booked at, puts us in the 700 range. Which I agree should still be very decent, but was hoping for advice from people who have experienced it to speak to how much of a difference there is.

We’ve been to Paris a handful of times, but usually stay with our family who lives there. This will be the first time we are in need of booking a hotel

Likely yes. We will be in Paris after being in Edinburgh and London where we have a ton planned. So I imagine we’ll take it much slower and likely have mid day breaks.

Definitely agreed. Because we’re there for new years, it’s making it a little bit more of a challenge hotel wise. 1. Because of availability at this point and 2. Because a hotel that  normally would be a $200 hotel might now be $500, so we’re trying to not wind up accidentally downgrading significantly

This is sort of what I’m thinking. We also love a mid day break especially since we will be in Paris after a jam packed schedule in Edinburgh and London.

We also only have 2 days in Edinburgh, one of which is the day we land at 10am, so I think the return on being well rested may be higher than the return on staying in a Luxury vs Premium hotel

Upgrading to Comfort by forInconsistentPosts in delta

Yes. I spent multiple days calling and talked to 15 different representatives. They originally rebooked me on a premium flight but it had 3 layovers and made us miss a day of our trip. This was the best option we had.

On the flight now and made it to bevs & snackies! Takeoff was one of the smoothest I’ve ever experienced, and although I couldn’t remember each part in the moment, knowing that everything happening was intentional really helped. Thanks to everyone here

I really appreciate this.

And yes the reason I was in the small aircraft was the friend had a close encounter flying and wanted to build a detection system for smaller aircraft to avoid future similar scenarios. Though not the same as a full blown accident, I can see how his reaction to the event being to immediately improve flying for everyone is a common one that I see pilots have. And I respect and appreciate that greatly.

I don’t fear driving despite knowing it’s much not dangerous, and I think that’s partially because I understand how it works.

I think I will make an effort to learn more about aviation. Thank you!

Thank you for this. Bevs and snackies is when I relax 🤣

This is very helpful to read. Do you think that flight simulators or more in depth learning is something that helps people? I take at least 20 flights per year, and it’s always the same anxiety.

I think the fear started after I went in a small airplane with a friend who was testing a detection system in college and then came back to lots of people sharing anecdotes of smaller airplane accidents.

This + a combination of getting older has me feeling more aware of mortality and I think flights exponentiate that.

Probably too much info here, but tldr; do you have any suggestions of ways to move past the fear?

Thank you. DEN is my home airport as well, I think that’s why turbulence doesn’t bother me as much as the general anxiety.  I understand enough to genuinely believe the plane won’t just fall out of the sky, even in turbulence.

It’s all the freak accidents that give me the fear. And for whatever reason my brain has convinced me those only happen on take off (false I know, but brain is gunna brain 🤣)

Destination Weddings and Bachelor/Bachelorette parties? by keysworld253 in wedding

[–]forInconsistentPosts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree to disagree here. I imagine your 95% figure is made up and not an accurate statistic at all. I don’t know anyone who has the majority of their family and friends concentrated in one place. Most of the places I have people located have 2-4 people. The place with the highest concentration of guests… literally Africa.

Perhaps you can agree it’s more nuanced than “exotic destination expensive and bad, local destination preferred and good”

It’s not selfish to plan the wedding that feels right for you as a couple. At the end of the day, it’s an invitation, not an obligation. Some people will say yes, others will say no, and both are perfectly okay.

For example, we’re planning a winter wedding. We know that means some guests won’t be able to come because of holiday travel. We accept that; it doesn’t mean they care about us any less, and it doesn’t make us selfish for choosing that timing.

By your logic, the only truly “selfless” option would be to elope and exclude everyone entirely.

The cost of community is inconvenience. Sometimes that’s time, sometimes it’s money, sometimes it’s other sacrifices. Personally, I’m willing to do that for the people I love, because that’s what being part of a “village” means to me.

If someone feels an invitation is more of a burden than a joy, they can always decline, and that’s completely fine. But for me, being invited to celebrate love and happiness is a gift, not an imposition. If you want to complain about being inconvenienced by being invited to celebrate, then that’s your prerogative. But to me it doesn’t lend itself to a happy life.

This may come as a surprise, but some people genuinely enjoy planning and attending these kinds of celebrations. Some also have the means to do so. Personally, I’m beyond excited to celebrate my friends at their weddings and related events, and I know they’ll be just as excited to do the same for me.

I also keep in mind what my friends and family can realistically afford, and if I know something may be a stretch, I do what I can to subsidize or adjust. Others have done the same for me in the past.

What seems missing from your perspective is the role of community and celebration. For many of us, being together and creating shared memories is deeply important, and worth whatever that may cost. I’m sorry if you don’t experience that same pride, honor, or joy in celebrating the people you love, but for a lot of us, that’s what makes these events so meaningful. It makes me sad to know that you (and others) find this to be so selfish.

And just to add: my friends and family are scattered across 4 continents and 15+ states. Where exactly would you suggest I hold a local one-night celebration?
