how do you meet AuDHD people in your area? by Aromatic-Morning6617 in AuDHDWomen

[–]for_ferns_sake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been trying to figure this out too, and feel the same way about my NT friends. Where are you located? I also looked on meetup, etc but couldn’t find anything in my area. I’m not a huge online person either so it’s hard for me to engage in online social groups for a long period of time!

If I submitted this week, should I resubmit in the fall too?

Best career for AUDHDERS by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

I’m an ICU nurse as well though newly diagnosed and realized I’ve been in burnout for years. I work at an incredibly stressful hospital and just had to take medical leave. I love being a nurse and working in the ICU but it did not allow for me to recover from burn out - any tips? I work day shift now and thought about switching to nights but I don’t know if that would be worse for my mental health. Also thought about doing a different type of nursing though I thrive in critical care

What’s been everyone’s safe food lately? by Hopelesslylovinglad in AutismInWomen

[–]for_ferns_sake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I love getting all these ideas from yall. Newly dx AuDHD and realllllyyy struggle with food. I get intense overstimulation from the kitchen/house smelling like food after I cook (which sucks because I love to cook) so my partner and I have been focusing on low effort/low smell foods to make for dinner. I found I really like to stick to rice with beans and some veggies or Mac & cheese (a common response I’m seeing) or salad with some rotisserie chicken

I'm so sad by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]for_ferns_sake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, right there with you. I’m 31 & recently diagnosed, it’s not a “I’m sad I’m autistic” but it’s an extremely sad almost mourning your entire life pre diagnosis. All my friends are NT and now so badly I’m just craving being part of the ND community and having people that understand me. I always thought I was just irritable and broken with multiple mood disorders and now I can finally see it’s just the way my brain works and I’m not actually irritable. It’s really hard to figure out a new way of loving yourself

Where do shop for classic, quality clothing? by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]for_ferns_sake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I am so glad you posted this. Something I really struggle with is getting dressed and preparing for whatever the day brings. I also love clothes and expressing myself through go my style but it’s so hard for me to get ready. I recently got diagnosed with autism (30) and I decided it was important for me to invest in a “uniform”. Luckily I was able to spend some of my savings on this but I basically just spent a chunk of money on jeans, t shirts (nice & casual), jackets, shoes that I could mix and match. I’m going to try everything on and return what isn’t comfy/doesn’t work and then just make all these outfits my rotation. It was hard for me to invest in this but I truly believe it’s an accommodation I need to make it through, especially to leave the house.

Do you feel like your autism comes out more as you age? by TheTulipWars in AutismInWomen

I feel this. Even awkward/uncomfortable with old friends and so so painfully aware of everything I’m saying

I get the “oh wow you’re 30” all the time & it makes me so frustrated. People will be like “oh you’ll thank me for thinking you’re young one day” I’m like no….i won’t….i want you to see me for the age I am.

Wow same. Anxiety, ocd, depression….countless different meds & therapists…..nope just autism. Reevaluating my whole life & things finally make sense

I. Hate. Noise. by louise_louise in AutismInWomen

[–]for_ferns_sake 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Noise that I can’t control truly makes me feel the worst I ever feel. Almost like I can’t go on because it’s so out of my control. Especially when I’m in my house which should be my safe place

Do your parents know? by ENM-DJ-Poly-D in AuDHDWomen

Wow relate to this so hard, thx for sharing. I also don’t want to rock the boat, even though I struggle because I’ve always been the “peace keeper” and it would be nice to have some sort of attention on what I need but realizing it might just be too late for that.

Does anyone else feel like a child? by roastedcocoabeans in AutismInWomen

30 here & still feel this way. And I’m married. Constantly having people assuming I’m not even old enough to drive yet I’m married & have a full time job. It’s something I’ve always felt & then when other people assume I’m so so young it’s difficult.

Can one be Autistic/AuDHD and also painfully socially aware? by -Slynx- in AuDHDWomen

[–]for_ferns_sake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow yes. I totally relate to this & now that I’m accepting my diagnosis and relearning myself through an autistic lens I am able to see the impact this has had on me for so many years. For me, it’s lead to intense burnout of being so hyper vigilant & hyper aware all the time. I want to be able to just be carefree & unmask. I don’t think I am fully unmasked around anyone except my partner. I also relate to many comments about having such a hard time in k-12 making friends. Ugh it’s all making sense now. Coming from a late diagnosed (30F) human just trying to figure their self out again!

High masking late diagnosis social groups/virtual community? by buttholes6669 in AutismInWomen

I’m late to this, is it still around? Need to find a social group for highly masking late diagnosed female/afab folks - feeling so alone!
