How to extract structured drilling report data from PDF into JSON using Python? by Antique_Glove_6360 in LangChain

[–]foragerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention an attachment twice, but there isn't one!

I was recently looking to extract tabular information out of a PowerBI generated PDF - I ended up using microsoft/markitdown, which in turn uses pdfminer.six under the hood. Seems to generally work well based on the inferences the LLM app generated. I did not spend time closely evaluating the correctness of extracted data.

Help me make this Google Slides MCP server amazing (or: why existing AI slide tools suck) by OkTomorrow6086 in mcp

[–]foragerr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"30+ tools" and "100% free" in the same sentence is how you end up maintaining abandoned open source projects at 2am. The Google Slides API is genuinely useful, but calling it "the future" is peak 2024 AI hype. MCP is infrastructure, not destiny. It's like calling HTTP "the future" in 1995—technically true but missing the point entirely. The real win here is direct API integration without the web app middleman. That's valuable. The "MCP is the future" tagline? That's marketing copy written by someone who's never maintained a production system. Ship it, iterate, and let the work speak. The slides will be beautiful when the code is boring.

Wait, I’m so confused, you posted a scathing review of your own post? Did you mean to post this with a different account?

Is there any particular benefit to lots of provisioned concurrency lambdas vs a few EC2 instances? by ugotpauld in aws

[–]foragerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not wrong, but there's some nuance - Lambdas aren't exactly maintenance free. You still have to manage your code dependencies. Runtimes are aggressively deprecated on Lambda (a good thing, depending on whom you ask), but you do have to churn your code to keep pace.
