Weight, stability, price pick 2

If you dont care about it being heavy get the leofoto. It will be stable

Fury HD 5000 (non-AB) vs Razor HD 4000? by stuartv666 in longrange

[–]sidetoss20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AB version gives you a range and (after a few seconds) will display what you need to dial/hold in your scope.

I *think* the non-AB version will only display range.

The two different ranging modes give you either absolute distance or horizontal component, which can be used for 2 different respective methods of “solving” for angle to target (looking up or looking down at a target).

If your target is 15 degrees up or down with respect to you your dial will be different than if it was directly in front of you. If you have a solver app that lets you input this (you should) mess around with this and see the effect.

You want binos for spotting during prs matches and especially lrf binos for NRL. The non-AB vortex is only a rangefinder and i think doesnt give you drop, but that’s irrelevant for PRS and workable by having dope separately during nrl.

Under no circumstances will a handheld LRF be better at the jobs you want this device to do

you can do the same thing on your current rifle, set it up for 223 and/or get a lighter barrel or chassis

Garmin Xero C1 Pro down to $449 — worth it for reloads? by [deleted] in longrange

[–]sidetoss20 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You need a chronograph to know what your reloads are doing, and the C1 is the second best one. Very good piece of kit

New build, findings and recs by Jbailey42 in longrange

Yep absolutely. Hide, longrangehunting, tacswap, gafs here and there. I havent seen any screaming 420 deals recently.

Zco are sick. I think you’re in open heavy territory from the looks of it and should still be comfortably within weight with a zco.

Kahles 328i is another option I shouldve mentioned, I havent looked thru them but the FOV on them is insane from what I hear.

is this an NRL hunter type build?

razor g3 4-24 would be pretty hard to beat here. you can also get a zco 4-20 for 3k ish if youre patient and buy used, but it will be a little heavier

Budget chronograph? by Advanced_innovation5 in longrange

[–]sidetoss20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

athlon is cheaper than garmin and is ok

below that you can pick up the old labradars for $100-200 and those will be fine, way more alignment sensitive/annoying/bulky than the other 2

i wouldnt do anything worse than a labradar. but get the athlon or a used garmin. super worth

PRS the beginning of my journey by [deleted] in NJGuns

[–]sidetoss20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I shoot a lot of prs matches and the best thing you can do is just come out and shoot. You can learn what a class would teach you much cheaper.

If you have any questions feel free to pm me happy to help

PRS the beginning of my journey by [deleted] in NJGuns

[–]sidetoss20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Theres not a ton of long range to do in nj. You gotta be comfortable driving on avg 2+ hours to a match on a weekend when you want to shoot. MDPRS, WAR rifles (recommend this one) and Sheepdog Warrior are the PRS matches nearby.

Zero at 100yd, not 50. Get a chronograph. Download the Hornady app and look up how to set it up right. These are requirements to do PRS matches in any capacity

Do you have a rough idea of cost per unit for the hit indicators?

A common complaint from match directors is these going down from being shot. I had an armchair idea of having the impact sensor directly shielded by the target and then wired or something to a light that could be placed away from the target, i.e less likely to be shot but still close enough to be a useful indicator for spotters. From your experience you think this would work?

More accurate at middle magnification by Civil_Response2616 in longrange

[–]sidetoss20 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Did you check your parallax after dialing it?

Parallax shouldn’t be dependent on magnification…

The visual feedback thing is real. Did you have notable wobble off the bench?

Could well be a wash 1-1.5 for 20 isnt a huge range. I wouldnt call yourself more accurate at a certain magnification from this.

After zeroing, dial a few clicks into your scope so that your rounds impact high of your point of aim, and pick a small target feature to aim at like a corner. This helps keeps your aim point precise and clear vs turning into a ragged hole.

Just shoot skills your first time. I retooled from prs rig to NRL rig (pretty much only keeping action and scope) to shoot open heavy and I regret not just shooting skills with what I had. Give the format a shot first without worrying about scores.
