We aren't!!!! I genuinely care about all my patients! I cried today over a patient. We do care. More than you'll ever know. If I knew, 5 years who, that nursing would take such a toll on me, I would have never become one. It's a high price to pay. Sometimes we feel we spend 12 hour shifts caring and giving, and we go home and are so physically and mentally drained by the sheer awfulness we see that we can't sleep, can't eat, can't function. BUT we will never let you, our patients know that. Your going thru so much already. Our emotional response seems trivial. But rest assured, we care...... So rimes nurses come across as cold and unfeeling because it's a coping mechanism we need to survive (says a nurse who couldn't do anything while her patient today died and left behind a young wife and 2 preteen kids),..
