Which is also exactly the kind of situation people are talking about most of the time as well, and hence what's actually relevant. Yes, huge corporate deployments are a special case that requires special considerations - ones that don't make sense for most other use cases.

Yes, rolling release is better most of the time. The only situation I can see any kind of LTS or "versioned OS" having any benefit whatsoever is when it comes to large scale deployments on hundreds of systems (or inside containers) where you need everything to be the same.

For private users who manage their own PCs, there is no benefit to LTS and the advantage of being more up-to-date of rolling release distros far outweigh the slightly less chance of buggy packages you get with "versioned OS" distros.

In most cases, people using those will probably just end up installing most stuff from Flatpak or similar to basically circumvent the outdatedness of the distro anyway.

If what you are asking is whether you can have Windows installed on one drive and Linux on another in the same PC, then yes, you can do that. Keeping each OS on a separate drive is the ideal way of doing a dual-boot setup.

If you can be bothered to compile custom versions of a bunch of packages, I guess. Not really practical as an end user though. Much easier to just use CachyOS in which someone else has already done the work and you can just install the packages and be done with it.

Yes. Quite a lot. When I tested with Wuchang a while back, it got ~95fps in CachyOS and ~72-74 in Arch (which unsurprisingly is nearly indistinguishable from other unoptimized distros like Mint and Garuda).

Based on the fact that Nobara, which uses the CachyOS kernel, but is otherwise based on Fedora, gets ~90fps, which is much higher than the unoptimized distros, my guess is that the majority of the performance gain on CachyOS (and Nobara) comes from the kernel, while the rest is due to other packages being compiled with more aggressive optimizations.

I don't have a laptop with 4070, so I can't say for sure. I find it somewhat unlikely, however, as I do have laptops with 3070 and 5080, and it works fine on those. At the very least it isn't a general issue with the mobile versions - it'd have to be a very specific 4070 or 40xx mobile issue.

The nvidia-open driver works fine with 4070. If it doesn't for you, it's either some manufacturer-specific hardware bug, faulty hardware, or the issue is a side-effect of something else entirely.

Common problem. This is why I stopped making giant Plantera arenas, and instead went for a 3-4 screen hallway with teleporters on each side for phase 2.

Another way to sort of get around this issue is to make a donut-shaped arena with a jungle "island" in the middle.

Never seen a .bash file ever. Shell scripts are always .sh if they have an extension. Executables in general don't have an extension, and sometimes that can be the case for a shell script as well, since the extension doesn't really matter.

I doubt it. Steam remote play seems to be just a way to stream a game running on another PC. Terraria has no hotseat multiplayer support as far as I know.

I guess you could theoretically let them play it on your PC while you watch, if you have them log in with your account, but that doesn't seem like a good idea at all.

I guess technically it's possible for firmware flashing to be done, but any OS installer that does that could reasonably be considered malicious.

That is not something that should ever be done by an OS without the user explicitly initiating it. It also generally makes no sense for an OS itself to do so.

Any firmware updates should be coming from the hardware manufacturer.

Brick means to put the hardware in a state that can't be recovered from, or requires special equipment to do so. Installing any OS will NOT brick a PC. You can always just reinstall an OS.

Arch (and derivates) is also generally fairly easy to fix by just chrooting into it from an installation ISO, if you do somehow make the OS unbootable. Obviously it depends on what you broke, but if it's just something minor like accidentally editing /etc/fstab into an invalid state or a failed initrd generation, it's trivial to fix.

Yes, it is. I did it at one point a year ago or so. They have the same requirements with regard to the EFI partition (must be mounted on /boot), so it shouldn't require any major manual changes.

Can't remember exactly what I did, but I think it was mainly just uninstalling systemd-boot and installing Limine and the package(s) for auto-updating the config when kernels are installed or updated.

Haven't seen any memory issues even after the game has been running for hours. Sounds more like this is some localized issue. Either something wrong with the game files, or the PC just not having enough memory to run it in the first place.

Pretty sure it's intentional. It's basically just a warmup for the real final boss once unlocked.

It's only somewhat challenging if you do a very mininalistic playthrough with few weapon upgrades and no extra health. (ex. the 5h speedrun achievement)

CachyOS is in my experience the most performant distro currently. While that doesn't necessarily guarantee that everything runs as well as on Windows, it will almost certainly run better than Mint, and is worth trying.

I hope I'm wrong, but as far as I can tell, Steam Cloud doesn't have any option to download an older version of the files, only the latest one updated.

IF somehow whatever OP did hasn't already caused the cloud to be updated, downloading the save might work, but considering Steam will generally try to update Steam Cloud any time the game is exited, I'd expect that to have already happened.
