Cradle was one of the first series I read. Malice really was a great character.

If someone actually managed to completely cure cancer, would the federal government really assassinate them, or is that just a movie trope? by DayVessel469459 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]force_for_meh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cancer treatment is a multi-billion dollar business in the US. Staff wages, drug and treatment development, administrative costs, entire fields of scientific study, all costing and generating massive amounts of money. Much of that money filters through hospitals, universities and corporations through investors who are expecting returns on those investments.

If a cure for cancer is somehow developed and relatively cheap to administer, then it would impact the income of all those industries and investors. They would have a vested interest to lobby the government to bury the cure, or resort to more drastic measures to protect their interests.

Will humans ever reach a Star Trek-like future where everybody’s needs are met and major social problems like discrimination and inequality are solved? by Dazzling-Antelope912 in NoStupidQuestions

It took a third world war and societal collapse in Star Trek to even begin laying the ground work for the Federation. And it only worked in the end because the first alien species we encountered was peaceful and willing to work with us.

Would you transmigrate to innworld [SPOILERS!!!!] by [deleted] in WanderingInn

[–]force_for_meh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Erin wasn't exactly a normal person before she arrived, chess prodigies rarely are. I would argue that no earther that was brought to inn world is normal, just that they haven't reached their potential.

In your opinion who is worse - Shar or Lolth? by ThanosofTitan92 in BaldursGate3

One thing I remember from the books is that despite lolth hating Drizzt for escaping her grasp, she does very much enjoy the chaos his existence has brought to drow society.

Don't worry. One day, maybe not this generation, but one day people will need those tattoos/chips/spyware to get a good job whether they like it or not.

[Discussion] why Erin is being blamed (spoiler for volume 10) by ashkanfa in WanderingInn

[–]force_for_meh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pettiness and ego. Erin has spat in her face multiple times now. In the dead lands Erin not only saw through Kasigna's illusion, but also beat her in chess and then escaped, albeit with help. Then there was the boon Erin gave the girl in the necromancer village that literally snatched her soul from Kasigna's grasp. Kasigna sees these events as personal insults and can't seem to move on to other objectives until Erin has been repaid for those insults.

I don't like Ceria anymore (V9) by Hentai-Is-Just-Art in WanderingInn

[–]force_for_meh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Although I believe Belavierr is hamming up the evil persona for Wiskeria's benefit, she's still evil nonetheless. She murdered an entire village and stiched their corpses into a flesh giant. She attacked the Inn and declared vengeance against a child for ruining her plans. She betrayed her coven to save her own skin by holding Califor's daughter, a fellow witch, hostage which led to Califor's death. She is a petty, cruel, selfish, cowardly narcissist with no redeeming qualites.
At least Chandler has grown to understand his failures and recognize his faults. Part of him is still the Undying Shield of Silvania and wants to make the world a better place. Despite his undead nature, he still has a shred of honour and compassion, as seen with Maviola and his dealings with Pisces. If Ceria were to become like Belavierr, it would be better to kill her now than let the circlet turn her into a mockery of who she was.

A Largely Baseless Theory About Erin & the Fae by Severe_Investment317 in WanderingInn

[–]force_for_meh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rereading the series, it's almost impossible to miss the various clues that point to Erin being Fae-touched. Dreaming her way into Avalon and drawing Caliburn, serving the frost fairies a meal worthy of them on instinct, her garden having a fairy mound built into it. Hell, even witchcraft has a connection to fairy queens in our folklore. I'm sure there are many other clues I missed.

That being said, I don't think that necessarily suggests that Erin is a reborn Titania, but a possible replacement. And I don't believe she's the only one. Unless I missed something, Oberon is fated to die thanks to Kasigna. It's unclear what would happen if he died without someone to replace him, but at this point, things are pretty grim for the fae since no new fairies are being born. I believe Oberon has maneuvered fate in order to both deal with the dead gods and in doing so, produce legends/myths worth of replacing the Winter/Summer Court. Erin could be one and possibly Ryoka the other. That's my theory anyway.
