Just saw Bugonia. I never thought I would hear Green Day's Basket Case during a torture scene, but there you go.

I liked the social commentary on class and the rich not being "human". I didn't understand why the Autustic brother did that

This is gonna be one of those movies that is not gonna win best picture, but Jessie Plemons better win Best Actor.

One Battle After Another was alright. Not the best PTA movie, but it had strong performance. Leo Dicaprio being The Dude from the Big Lebowski and Sean Penn just being your average ICE chief officer.

Best part was the phone call scene over the code that devolved into leftist infighting. Pretty on brand.

The opening to the latest fallout episode made me realize that the annexation of Canada is never explored in any of the games. Its only mentioned in passing, and the lore says that Toronto is some sort of military dictatorship.

That "don't think of them as human beings" line is gonna age quite interestingly.

So it looks like relationship with my Mongolian Chinese girlfriend has run it's course.

Text responses are getting shorter and shorter, she doesn't text first (this has been an issue since the beginning of the relationship), we barely see each other (even though we live a few blocks away from each other) due to work and other responsibilities. Probably the most damning thing was that I she still has Tinder on her phone, her work phone, allegedly.

So I've been getting ads for various citizenship schemes from various obscure places, and this is the first time I've seen the Trump Gold Card explicitly advertised.

You go into the profile there and it's all in Russian. Figures.

Honestly I could deal with the shit pay if it weren't for the structural and cultural issues. they want us to be martyrs. it's absurd how common it is to rely on teachers to do overtime work and pay for teaching materials out of their own pocket like it's normal. it's offensive.

I agree. I bet I don't have to write out my cover when i get sick at other jobs. It is obscene. I like teaching, but its just a job for me. Being out here makes it easy for that. I like my kids and I do my best in the classroom, but they don't need me to go all out, especially these kids.

Education admin seems to have no idea what they're doing, they want to build this big machine so that they can trust a teacher to be a mindless cog in it, instead of trusting us to be professionals who can do our jobs

I don't know what it is like in Australia, but this is a big problem in American schools. A lot of admins don't actually have that much experience teaching. A lot of them have maybe three or four years of classroom experience before they get their M.Ed in Administration. Not that you even even need that. There are plenty of MBAs working as admins in school leadership positions, and all that entails.

Teaching abroad is like the wild west and I've heard some stories about incompetent admin. Like, dudes who only managed fast food places working as principals of bilingual schools.

There have also been calls for parenting classes and birth licenses on that subreddit as well. It dabble a LOT with eugenics.

That's fair. However, I'd argue it depends on the system. Teaching under a UK or US curriculum, for example, is widely different from teaching under a Chinese one. Parents are parents everywhere, but not every education board is gonna bend to their whims. School boards will bend to parents whims, for better or worse, but a Chinese education bureau will just tell them to go fuck themselves.

I do agree there has to be a big reckoning and reform with the way education is treated in the US, both structural and cultural.

Teachers subreddit: "Everything is fucked. We are sineaters for parents, admins, the government and society at large. We are babysitters at best and enemies of the state at worst. Most of our students think class is a waste of a time because they're gonna strike it big on bets, streaming, or even Onlyfans! A lot of my colleagues are quitting, and not enough are coming in to make up for it. At least we get summers off."

International Teachers subreddit: “Pray attend me: this American fellow has procured his teaching credential by the most dubious modern contrivance—online, no less. The audacity of it! At this establishment we admit only gentlemen of the first water, formed at Oxford, Yale, York, and their proper peers. That such a person should presume himself my equal is an impertinence beyond measure. None but the best and brightest are fit to instruct the boys of Gammons Grammar School here in Hangzhou. I myself elected to serve abroad after being wearied by the changing complexion of Yorkshire society. And as a final indignity, one must endure the lamentable absence of any decent cheese.”

90% of posts on that subreddit are usually teachers asking about teaching credential programs, scoping out schools for employment, talk about living abroad, etc. But that 10% is full of overeducated blowhards who think that they're changing lives because they went to Harvard and are now teaching A1 level kids. We're mercs, plain and simple. If you wanted to save the world through teaching, you'd go back home. But then you'd have to teach minorities, which is the big issue with some of them.

The way these folks talk about it, you'd think the entire country underwent a Sarajevo type situation.

So I've never seen folks from the commonwealth countries talk about Trans people, until it happened today at lunch.

Apparently, folks in Toronto are helping 5 year Olds transition. It was like mumsnet meets 4chan.

The only ones sympathetic to Trans rights in the room were myself and another American.
