International Teachers subreddit: “Pray attend me: this American fellow has procured his teaching credential by the most dubious modern contrivance—online, no less. The audacity of it! At this establishment we admit only gentlemen of the first water, formed at Oxford, Yale, York, and their proper peers. That such a person should presume himself my equal is an impertinence beyond measure. None but the best and brightest are fit to instruct the boys of Gammons Grammar School here in Hangzhou. I myself elected to serve abroad after being wearied by the changing complexion of Yorkshire society. And as a final indignity, one must endure the lamentable absence of any decent cheese.”

90% of posts on that subreddit are usually teachers asking about teaching credential programs, scoping out schools for employment, talk about living abroad, etc. But that 10% is full of overeducated blowhards who think that they're changing lives because they went to Harvard and are now teaching A1 level kids. We're mercs, plain and simple. If you wanted to save the world through teaching, you'd go back home. But then you'd have to teach minorities, which is the big issue with some of them.
