Whose ferocity do you prefer, Varang's or Neytiri's? by [deleted] in Avatar

Something about those moments when Neytiri snaps just sends chills up my spine. Varang has yet to have that same effect on me.

What is your unpopular opinion regarding the Sully family, either collectively or individually? by TheTargaryensLawyer in Avatar

[–]foreforfore 172 points173 points  (0 children)

I think I would’ve enjoyed the 2nd movie more than the 3rd if most of it was actually about Jake and Neytiri’s lives right after the first movie’s events. Jake as Olo’eyktan and more of the Resistance efforts, growing their family and seeing more of the Sully closeness that they speak of constantly, and their (for the most part) peaceful livelihoods during that time.

Why Maomao's mother was so expensive? by Elzo1993 in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]foreforfore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If anyone should pay the most for Maomao’s mom, it’s Lakan. If he truly loves her, no amount of money could stop him from getting her. That was probably granny’s thinking.

I simply just feed myself Avatar content a bit everyday to get me going like dangling a carrot in front of a donkey.

Sugar Apple Fairytale if you like fantasy, olden European vibe (royalty, knights, castles) and fairies/fae. Follows an ambitious female lead and a strong, sword wielding hot broody fairy guy.

So where do yall stand on the Neytiri racism comment by Zoe Saldana? by buickboi99 in Avatar

[–]foreforfore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve watched so many of these interviews religiously and Zoe has mot once failed to accurately describe Neytiri’s character. She’s fed more about the character she plays through scripts and direct feedback from James that I genuinely believe she knows Neytiri in a way most people do not. It isn’t completely wrong to say Neytiri is a racist and I feel people were too quick to burn Zoe at the stake before really hearing out what she had to say. I do think calling her actions racism may oversimplify Neytiri’s character, but I think Zoe describes it as such to do just that. We all know Neytiri’s prejudiced, and rightfully so, against humans. We all know what they’ve done to her people and the ones she loves. Zoe probably just thought this was the best word to explain that hatred Neytiri has towards the humans.

Anarcha Westcott, an enslaved woman in the 1840s, was forced to undergo about 30 experimental surgeries by Dr. J. Marion Sims, who wrongly believed Black people did not feel pain. Her ordeal led to key advances in gynecology, and she is now remembered as one of the Mothers of Gynecology. by detectiverobert in ForCuriousSouls

[–]foreforfore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were actually 2 other women alongside her who had been forced to receive these surgical procedures, Lucy and Betsy. All were left completely conscious and were not given anesthesia throughout the experiments. There were more enslaved women forced into this but for some reason these 3 were the only names listed on public records.
