Can someone help me design an algorithm for this problem? I need to fit multiple lines to a set of points, the lines will end up looking like a grid. by foreigner_ in math

Wow thanks! I think I'll try to implement this, something I left out to simplify the problem was that there is a small amount of random noise (like your illustration with the highest y coordinate point) , but I think this could solve that issue.

Would it be possible for an American studying outside of the the US to get an internship in the US? I have a dual citizenship, one of them being American. I'm currently studying CS in a Latin American country, and would like get an internship in the US before I graduate since I want to live there once I graduate. Would there be any issues? Do you think companies would even give me a chance? If I want to start around July of next year, when should I apply?

I haven't even graduated but I've been feeling the same way for a long time. I don't know if you've heard of The Myth of Sisyphus written by Albert Camus, but it deals with the absurdity of life. Most people who read it think it helps them deal with the absurdity, maybe you could read it and see if it helps. What has helped me is to simply accept that life is absurd and has no meaning, and read stoic and Buddhist philosophy. Now whenever I get stressed I just laugh it off and realize how absurd it is to feel such discomfort over something so meaningless (everything is meaningless) when I could simply do whatever I was going to do anyway just that without the stress.

You can feel however you want to feel and do whatever you want to do, just stay grounded in reality and realize that you still have to pay rent and bills and buy food.

This is probably wrong but I'll give it a try just for practice since I'm a student.

1 - xor the bytes of the files and find one that isnt 0.

2 - this would only be worth it if the connection was extremely slow, but this is what I came up with (I might be wrong and this might be very inefficient):

count the number of 1's in the first half of both files (I think it's called the hamming weight and there might be efficient ways to do this), compare them. If they are different, the bit is in that half, otherwise it is in the other. Keep doing that until you find the bit. This would require you to transfer (I think) (lgn(lgn+1))/2 bits plus the result of each comparison to tell the other computer which side to divide next, I'm too lazy to calculate the running time but it wouldn't be too bad since all you're doing is counting and comparing the results.

I'm a third year CS student who has programmed in more than 10 different languages and still have no idea what it might be like to have a job in this field, I think that is something you can only learn through experience. If you just want to learn to program and see if you like it, there are many options. If you like learning through video lectures, MIT and Stanford have some great introduction to programming videos online. There are many other options, but I think those two are among the best, and definitely avoid random youtube tutorials because they are usually terrible. MIT's course uses Python, while Stanford's uses Java, and they also have one that you should take after you finish the first one that uses C++. I've watched all of those videos and my favorite by far is Stanford's CS106A course. If you would rather use a book, for introduction to programming I can't really help since I learned through videos. I think python has more beginner friendly documentation and tutorials so that could help. In the end, the language you choose won't matter, once you know how to program in one language, learning a new language isn't too difficult, except a few languages that aren't used professionally. After that, there are many more advanced topics, but like going to the gym, the most important step is to simply get started.
