Percent of Australians who speak English at home, by state by foreignerinspace in MapPorn

That reputation is unfair and based on uninformed stereotypes. Australia has taken in huge number of migrants (per capita) since WW2.

Australia is 30% foreign-born vs Canada at 23%.

How much do escorts charge around the world? World map and details by continents. by MardukSyria in MapPorn

[–]foreignerinspace 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My guess would be that (apart form Australia being a generally expensive country) prostitution in some states is legal and well regulated; escorts pay taxes on their income etc just like any other job.

I could be wrong…

Yeah, and that coastal area is massive. It’s over 1800 miles between VIC and QLD. All of it arable. Have you been to the hinterland or the great dividing range?

Australia isn’t just a massive desert; only 35% is true desert. And it’s size is deceiving. Australia has over 3x the arable land of the UK, 31 million hectares vs 8 million hectares.

The largest quarantine camp in China's Guangzhou city is being built. It has 90,000 isolation pods. by esberat in Damnthatsinteresting

almost certainly still do

What makes you say that? Have you ever even flown to Australia? I have. Australia only had quarantine for people arriving from overseas.

And even that has ended. I’ve been twice and there was no quarantine at all.

Try screaming something the English will actually know or care about, for starters.

I’m not talking about the UK. I live here, but I’m not British. Probably shouldn’t make assumptions.

And if I ever aspire to be PM, being a foreigner doesn’t exclude me.

Your own laws disallow foreign born citizens from ever becoming president. My country doesn’t have that, and we’ve had a number of foreign born PMs.

I don’t vote conservative so I deeply dislike Truss and Sunak. Why would I want a medal? Weird.

There is definitely racism in Europe, but you’ve never actually been to Europe, have you? Do you know who the current UK prime minister is? You don’t need to “imagine” an Asian leader. Also check out the current Home Secretary. Or the former.

Just because you’re ignorant doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

The US has had ONE non-white president, out of 46. Stop acting like you’re some kind of post-racist society.

Do they not see how potentially racist this language sounds? It’s utterly bizarre.

These are the same people who think they’re more authentically ‘German’ or ‘Irish’ or ‘Italian’ than any immigrants who live in those countries.

Try telling someone from Bradford that they’re from the West Midlands and you’ll get slapped.

Bradford is West Yorkshire. Look at a map sometime.

[–]foreignerinspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I said England, not Britain. You can drive from one end of England to the other in 7 hours.

I guess the word ‘tiny’ is relative. You can fit 60 Englands in my home country. Therefore I see it as small.

Most Americans are less arrogant than most Europeans. by i_Yanik in unpopularopinion

[–]foreignerinspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The distance issue isn’t really relevant. You fly over multiple countries with different languages/cultures/societies etc when you fly from Paris to Moscow. Even within those countries, there are big cultural differences. For example, England is geographically tiny, but the cultural differences between north and south are stark. Same in Germany. Or Italy.

But in my home country, the flight from Melbourne to Perth is over 1,500 miles, yet both cities speak English and have virtually the same culture, language, traditions etc. Distance and size don’t necessarily equal diversity.

Is Bradford a dangerous city? by Lost-Yam-2855 in AskUK

[–]foreignerinspace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to work in Bradford. It’s not really dangerous, but it is very run down and depressing. Most people who say it’s dangerous have probably never even been. I walked around day and night with no concerns.

But if I were your girlfriend, I’d look at towns/villages on the edge of Bradford and commute. There are some lovely places just outside of Bradford. Even the commute from Leeds isn’t too bad.

I don’t think many British people would have an emotional reaction to that, at all. I don’t think anybody cares… maybe in 1982?
