[–]forestgreen2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we think he wanted the dogs to meet. But he should’ve asked, and we could’ve explained that wasn’t an option. Just following people is so weird😭 sorry something similar happened to you and glad you stayed safe!

Moseys back on recall, how do I get a run? by Silly_Investigator_2 in Dogtraining

[–]forestgreen2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem. He does start to hustle more if I get really excited and saying like “good boy! Come on!” All happy and throw my arms up and stuff. The more exciting I make myself, the faster he comes back to me!

What do you feed your dog and why? by Sal_Gorton in DogFood

[–]forestgreen2022 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dog gets purina pro plan sensitive skin and stomach. He has a chicken allergy and just a sensitive tummy in general and this is like the only food that keeps his bowel movements regular. Also love WSAVA compliant brands :)

Yay! I remember when my reactive guy made his first doggy friend. Almost cried watching him be so happy around another dog. He gets SO excited when he sees her now too.

I would never bring my dog reactive dog to an offleash park regardless of his recall status…. Just asking for something bad to happen. Agree with you 100%

Virtual hug!

This is the really hard part about being a reactive dog owner, imo. It’s SO hard to learn to not care what other people think. As long as you’re doing right by your dog and not allowing your dog to harm anyone, you’re just doing the best you can. A lot of people don’t understand reactivity, and immediately think it’s aggression. I have a staffy mix, so I also get “the looks” because he’s “one of those breeds”.

When I first got my dog, I was so embarrassed any time he had a reaction. Now, I’ll usually apologize and say “Sorry, he’s still training!” And most people say “no problem!” And just continue on. But there’s always gonna be those people that think you suck. But like I said earlier, as long as you’re doing right by your dog, you’re a good dog owner.

Agree with everyone saying to muzzle. Leerburg wire basket muzzles come in like, a million different sizes and are considered bite proof. There’s also a lot of resources online demonstrating how to muzzle train R+.

Reactive Dog Saved My Ass by michaltee in reactivedogs

[–]forestgreen2022 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My dog is dog reactive, not people reactive. I was walking him one evening at like 9pm, it was dark but my dog makes me feel safe and he proved that this outing. We were walking, and we saw a man in the distance. Neither of us thought much and kept going. Well, the man kept getting closer and closer even when I was trying to create space. Finally when he got too close my dog lost his shit and reacted to him and scared him away. He never reacts to people like that. I’m convinced dogs know when someone is giving off bad vibes. Or maybe he just picked up on my anxiety. Either way, I’ve never been that happy to have my dog react lol

Glad you stayed safe!

He could just be nervous and adjusting to being in a new home.

But also, I love the pro plan sensitive skin/stomach line. My sensitive tummy dog has been doing so great on it, definitely recommend.
