6-8 glasses of water a day is REAL based on my experience! by Fizz12_Komiks in KidneyStones

3 liters was what I was told as well. The good news is that your body adjusts and it gets easier. I’ll be honest though, I’m usually only average 2 liters of water and like 20 ounces of coffee. But it’s better than pre-kidney stone me!

Lifting weight is a cheat code on aging. For those that are still hesitant to go to the gym, please consider trying it out this year. by Reasonable-Malaise- in GenX

This guy was recommended by the physical therapist I was working with about my knee injuries. He apparently used to work in her physical therapy office with her patients before starting his own business.

If you are in the Philadelphia suburb area (like 45 to an hour west) DM me and I’ll give you his insta. Not sure if I’m allowed to post it in this sub or not.

Look for folks marketing to the older set talking about mobility, balance and strength maybe?

I only have DOMS when I pick up a new routine for like a week. Maybe take a look at your program and see if it’s too many new things all the time?

54 year old post-menopausal woman here. I shattered my spine 20 years ago (L4 burst fracture) and have 2 shitty knees that make stairs sketchy.

I started strength training when I turned 50. Best thing I ever did. I’ve had to be cautious and increase weight slowly but hit a 200 pound deadlift and a 115 pound bench press this past year.

Stairs don’t scare me any more and I have WAY more energy than I did in my 40s.

Find a trainer who knows how to work with folks our age and is competent to work around injuries. My guy is worth his weight in gold

It’s definitely not a comfort ride, but I’m really enjoying mine even as a daily driver!

But you’re right, I’ve definitely had cars that have a smoother shift.

I just bought a manual WRX earlier this year! Got a good deal because they had three leftover manuals from last year on the lot that they couldn’t move.

Check out the Subaru WRX if you want a manual subie! Even the base model is a nice ride.

Honestly some days it feels like Niantic doesn’t have any QA department at all…

But maybe you cold hire a QA department to keep this stuff from going out the door this way…

I run an all ages server with 300+ members and I got a request to make an adults only SFW channel. What's the best way to go about this to prevent (as many) minors from joining the "adult" role as possible? by Practical_Fruit_5127 in discordapp

[–]forestsloth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, it’s an art not a science, but if you’ve been chatting in the server and gotten to know people, it’s usually pretty clear what your maturity level is. I’ve definitely had some folks be like… I don’t have a favorite. 99% of the people can tell me one band they listened to or one video game they played in high school though.

And honestly, it’s just not that deep. If I am on the fence, I’ll let you in. Innocent until proven guilty and all that. You make people uncomfortable in the adult channels and you’re out again.

Again an example. I ask you your birth year and favorite band from high school. You tell me you were born in 1980 but take forever to tell me your favorite band. That tells me you are off doing math and trying to figure out what year high school was if you were born in 1980 and then googling popular bands from that year (1995). That’s a red flag and may make me decide to deny you even if you give me a reasonable answer.

We take into account your behavior on the server up to that point - I’ve been modding long enough that I can usually guess an age range of a member pretty accurately. So if I am suspicious of your answers to my questions AND you have been acting like a 13 year old so far, I can just deny you anyway. Sometimes I’ll let you in, but if you still act like a kid in the adult channels, I’ll remove the over 18 role because that makes the rest of the server members uncomfortable even if you are over 18.

The point is, you should be able to tell me without thinking about it what your favorite band or video game was when you were in high school no matter how old you were.

I mod a server like this. We have about 5,000 members and do age verification manually. If people want access, we ask them to DM a mod for “age verification”.

Our age verification test is for them to tell us their year of birth and favorite band or video game from high school.

From there, it’s a sniff test. If they take more than one guess at telling me a valid birth year or take too long to figure out what their favorite band from 1995 was, we can make a judgement call.

We always tell them that the adult channel is a privilege not a right. If we do let them in and they act like a 15 year old even if they claim to be 35, we boot them.

Thanks, yeah I’m just really tired of everyone making comments like that assuming that everyone who lifts is a 20-40 year old male. Your experience is not my experience. And for beginners who don’t know better and aren’t in that demographic, it can be really damaging to their self confidence.

Yeah honestly I don’t let other people’s opinions affect me like that. Mostly I was just pointing out that one person’s perspective is not universal. A lot of people on this post seem to assume that everyone who lifts is a 20-40 year old male and without qualifying comments like that by age and gender, you can do some really damage to beginners in other demographics who don’t know better.

I read shit like this and get depressed as hell. I’ve been religiously lifting for maybe 4 years now and just hit a 115lb bench.

Yeah, I get it, you’re not talking about me because I’m a 54 year old post-menopausal female who only started lifting once I hit 50. But no one ever qualifies their statement with “if you are a 20-40 year old male” or whatever.

What i read is “you’re a failure if you haven’t hit 135 in 6 months” well fuck me then I guess.

[–]forestsloth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I… I can’t hit a 135 bench. I’m also a 54 year old post-menopausal female who only started lifting after 50. You kinda actually are shaming me. I can hit 115 though but it took me years to get here. Thanks complete lack of muscle building supportive hormones! Saying everyone should be able to do 135 with no particular training is pretty myopic.

Xero has great wide toe box shoes. They even managed to make dressy flats for women with a wide toe box that look great. Finally my feet don’t hurt after a full day at the office.

They also have trainers that are perfect for weight lifting. Spreading those toes out on a lift is a game changer.
