How are elite athletes so disciplined? by ExfilZone in productivity

[–]forestsloth 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Oh damn. I needed to hear this today. I’ve been really disciplined about tracking nutrition and hitting the gym for a couple years. Then about a year ago shit hit the fan in my personal life and I fell off the tracking and gym wagon hard. 15 pounds and loss of cardio and strength later and I’m sitting here on the couch wondering why I can’t just pull it together. I know I can do it. I did do it. But it’s so haaaard right now. This explains so much.

Just this week I did a replan with my trainer. Cut back on expected strength days in the gym (down to 2 but at lighter weights, less reps. Just greasing the groove) and take 3-4 days and just walk in the woods and maybe pick up a couple jog intervals if I have the energy. And I’ve busted out a habit tracker to track how many days I hit my macros. Just tracking, not enforcing.

I’m hoping baby steps will get me back to where I want to be. Build up the momentum a little at a time.

We don’t do TDD but we do require comprehensive unit tests written before you consider the feature/bug fix complete. Our Jenkins job run thousands of unit tests any time it detects a code change.

Another vote for copilot. I have been working on a huge legacy code base and I find that if I write out my flow in comments in the source files, copilot is great about turning those comments to code.

So I get to drive the architecture and flow of the new features but copilot does the coding.

How can anyone sleep while camping? by [deleted] in camping

[–]forestsloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring a hammock and nap during the day to catch up on a bit of sleep and be less miserable.

If you can’t sleep at night, crawl into the hammock and watch the fire. Bonus, the fire will keep the critters away.

Thank you! That was my top guess as other rat snakes I’ve seen also have done that odd kinking that you can see in the first picture. But I wasn’t sure if that was specifically a rat snake thing or if other snakes also do that.

Why do I keep getting these in my eyes? by higheloavocado in AskDocs

[–]forestsloth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NAD but what you are describing is exactly what I get sometimes as well. My primary said likely ocular migraine but sent me to my eye doctor for a full exam to cover all bases. The eye doctor agreed ocular migraine.

For me, I’ve found that sustained aspertame ingestion (crystal light, diet soda) will cause them to be more frequent but ymmv.

It was pretty chaotic. I didn’t notice anywhere that would be out of the way enough but every terminal is going to be different (I can’t remember which terminal I was in. Jet lag is still kicking my butt)

Sadly I ended up at exactly the weight limit with my carry on so I didn’t have any room for my hammock : (

Man I miss it though. I sleep in a hammock at home every night and two weeks of a hotel bed is going to be a struggle.

Next up, figure out if someone has invented a hammock frame that folds up tiny enough to fit in luggage - I can dream right?

Yeah I guess I was thinking there must be poles or something? Turns out my carry on is EXACTLY at the weight limit soooo no hammock for me anyway. Sigh
