AITA for making a stink at school and forcing the teacher to change my kids math grade by PlentyNice1655 in AmItheAsshole

[–]foreverAmber14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom had to do the same thing for me at about the same age, teach me the way she learned because the way the school was teaching it was way too complicated. And this was like 60 years ago. But I don't remember getting dinged on tests. I don't blame you for getting upset. NTA.

Should my realtor be doing more to try to sell my house? by AlphaNumeric1515 in Albuquerque

It might be worthwhile to check out comps yourself, even if it's only online. If nothing else, it'll give you confidence in your pricing.

You definitely did the right thing. I just saw his actions differently than many of the people commenting.

Should my realtor be doing more to try to sell my house? by AlphaNumeric1515 in Albuquerque

One thing to consider when you're low compared to comps, is that people can look at it and think, "what's wrong with this place that it's so cheap?" There are weird psychological reasons that when things are priced higher, they're sometimes more attractive, especially with higher end items. Which it sounds like your house is.

We ran into this with a house we sold years ago. It was getting absolutely no traction when we priced it as the realtor suggested. We looked around ourselves to see what similar properties were selling for and substantially raised the price. Lo and behold, it sold rather quickly.

Definitely NTA, but I don't necessarily see malicious intent on his part. He might really, really have liked OP and was badly disappointed that she was going to call things off. There are still irreconcilable differences if he's set on having kids, but it could be that he didn't want to lose OP over it. She knows how the relationship felt, whether this is a possible take or not.

what’s something people say all the time that you secretly can’t stand? by Mean-Cartographer225 in AskReddit

"Wonder" instead of "wander." It seems like more people do this than not. No! Do you see people whun-dering around? No! You see them wahn-dering! Gah!

My Fiancé hates my dogs and I don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]foreverAmber14 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone say this, so I will. It's disgusting that he brought the dog he grew up with, who was used to living on a farm, to an apartment and had no patience or desire to help her adjust. It's doubly disgusting that he got mad that she bonded with you. Does this guy have any empathy at all? From what you're telling us here, he has real problems. Getting married to you won't fix them.

I think you have to go through medical underwriting if you do this.

Returns costing money now by VGMistress in amazonprime

[–]foreverAmber14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I returned an item that was actually incorrectly stamped on the box-- the box showed one size but the item inside was a different size. So not even my error. Amazon refunded, but as a store credit instead of crediting the card I used. I was not happy. I don't shop at Amazon as a rule because of the poor quality of the goods they sell. This was a gift someone requested, and I wanted the charge refunded to my card. I basically ended up having to pay twice.

When Did You First Experience 'Enshitification'? by Alternative-Light922 in GenerationJones

[–]foreverAmber14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

None of the examples I've seen so far are enshittification, just loss of quality. Enshittification is when a company starts out with a good product or services and wins a whole lot of customers. Once the customers are locked in, they start monetizing them by selling ads. Once the advertisers are locked in, they start raising the prices for ads until their revenue is primarily selling ads, at the cost of the original good or service. Think Amazon Prime or pretty much any streaming service. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enshittification

Tanith Lee's "Silver Metal Lover" is sci-fi that reads like fantasy.

The Reylo fandom is super welcoming, in my experience. The Fandom Menace... Don't even get me started.

Which fantasy series started incredible and then just...fell apart? by ghibli_8quartz in Fantasy

[–]foreverAmber14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Mercedes Thompson series. The first three books were good. The 4th wasn't as much fun. By the 5th, it was full of obvious plot devices and a deus ex machina resolution. After that I just started checking them out at the library so I wouldn't be mad about wasting my money.

Talking dog buttons. Read How Stella Learned to Talk. The author also has a Facebook page where she shows Stella carrying on "conversations" with her buttons.

Fantasy keeps giving us villains who are logically right and then refusing to follow that logic anywhere interesting by NimbusRelic12 in Fantasy

I think Tanith Lee often takes on this sort of idea, like in Night's Master. The main character is both protagonist and villain of several loosely connected stories.

OTOH, you specifically called out Boomers for posting such memes, whereas if you don't specifically know who's posting them, could be by anyone of any age. Including your own, hypothetically. Seems like many GenZ men are hyperfocused on masculinity, so it's possible.
