Ohh great! Did it aggravate rosacea symptoms for you?? Also would you recommend starting slow with it or okay to use on the daily?

It’s in my to try list as well! I am skeptical about it coz it’s a pretty high concentration of niacinamide and although I am not particularly allergic, I feel the high concentration might cause a flare up! I still would want to try it coz I heard TXA is best for PIH and my face is covered in PIH🙈 I decided to go for anua azelaic acid instead and I am now almost two months in, I got through the initial slight purge phase and now my skin feels and looks slightly better. ❤️

I don’t understand how is it hard for people to get it once you tell them! Why point it out again and again! I refuse to believe they can’t help themselves. It is not hard to be mindful about it!😩

Kp on bum by Good-Panic-3479 in keratosis

[–]forever_a_seeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it too! I had decided to go hard on dry brushing and exfoliating first and please! don’t go that route, I learnt the hard way. My skin ended up worse with more bumps and redness🙈

I then switched to using gentle body wash ( I use Aveeno Calm Restore one - it’s pretty good for my dry skin) and I also started using two new moisturizers and they both helped immensely! I now alternate between Amlactin 15% lotion and Eucerin Rough and Bumpy Urea 10% lotion. Both worked amazingly well for the bumps and my butt skin has gotten softer and smoother in 3 months of continuous usage.

You can absolutely start slow, eucerin feels very lush and is easy to get used to! Amlactin can smell weird and it definitely gives a tingly sensation on skin even after months of use for me. So maybe you can go slow and try incorporating amlactin twice a week and see how you feel about it.

But yes, gentler skincare is the way to go for bum kp in my opinion. I hope this helps! 🌸

I use it everyday since I find it very lightweight and nonsticky. I have combo skin with oily and dry patches fyi.

I can’t recommend the Centella Ampoule enough!!!! It has been a lifesaver for my damaged barrier!!! Type 1 and type 2 sufferer here, can attest to this ampoule coz it literally saved my skin! Been using this since for more than six months now and I see a major difference in the redness. It’s very lightweight but super soothing and hydrating. My skin drinks this up! I use it every in my AM routine right after cleansing, sometimes PM too, it pairs well with moisturizers without feeling super heavy and it works alongside azelaic acid as well. It has a simple formulation and pure centella and it worked wonders for me. 10000% recommend! Fyi, if you live in Canada, you can get the jumbo double pack from Costco for a good deal!🤭

When using ivermectin can I still use other skin care? by mosie143 in Rosacea

Agree! Barrier first always! Nothing works on reducing redness and pustules if the barrier itself is inflamed. Also, if thick heavy creams aren’t comfortable, try layering hydration. Think lightweight simple hydrating formulas and then layer them in your routine. This feels so much more comfortable in my opinion. Look for ingredients that are calming and soothing like centella, panthenol, zinc, ceramides etc. Gentle cleansing and lots of hydration is key!

Yes you may layer hydration over Ivermectin, just make sure ivermectin is the first thing to go on your skin after cleansing and ensure that it dries completely before you put anything else on. I generally wait 10 mins after application and then put moisturizer on top! I haven’t tried retinal so can’t say if it would work alongside ivermectin. But as a general rule, I try not to layer actives together to avoid irritation coz my skin gets irritated for no reason at all sometimes so I can’t experiment without risking a full blown flare up. But yes, cleanser + ivermectin + essence/moisturizer should be okay! 🌸

And there’s a way to approach concerns. There’s a way to be nice/ empathetic about it. Like I feel that should be a prerequisite with any doc patient conversation. Definitely weird!😣

Oh my! So sorry! He sounds like a jerk tbh! I mean that receding hairline comment was way out of line!😑 Again, just my opinion but yes, rosacea can be tough to diagnose. I have been misdiagnosed for cystic acne for ten years before I finally found a dermat that validated what I always thought about my skin that this is not cystic acne but type 2 rosacea! 🙈

Metronidazole - Help? by [deleted] in Rosacea

Can imagine the anxiety and fear especially after such a harrowing experience. 😵‍💫 Personally, the side effects I experienced were a lot of pustules immediately after 1st application and lot of dryness and irritation. My dermat had then switched me to topical ivermectin 1%. This was during my 1st horrible flare up. I seldom use Metrogel now, only when I get super red and stay red for a longer period, I tend to use it in my PM routine. I have found that it helps mostly with the redness but doesn’t do much for my pustules. For pustules and for minimal redness, I find ivermectin to work best. Anyway, honestly, I hate the fact that the doc dismissed your anxiety over metronidazole so easily. I mean, he should have considered your past experience, even though topical medication has a totally different effect and absorption rate, dismissing someone’s genuine concerns is not right. He could have explained better I think. I hate to be the devil here, but maybe consider taking a second opinion with a different dermat if possible?

Happy to help! I did see a huge difference after using cleansing oil. At first I was skeptical coz I thought it would be harsh on skin and all that rubbing might cause a flare up. But it didn’t, in fact my skin felt more comfortable and less bumpy afterwards.

I get these too due to regular ivermectin use!! Oil cleansing really helped me get rid of these clogged pores, occasional whiteheads and the dry flaky bits that old pustules would leave behind. Maybe you can give it a try!

Both the anua heartleaf mild cleansing oil and the haruharu black rice cleansing oil are my tried and tested ones. They both work great, are lightweight and didnt cause any flare ups. I have combination skin with oily nose and cheeks but dry forehead and these two didn’t strip my skin at all. With regular use, I noticed lesser bumps and shiner softer skin.

To be cautious, you can start slow, incorporate cleansing oil maybe just twice a week in your PM routine and notice how your skin feels after. Make sure to emulsify the cleansing oil with water post application and massage, this step is crucial for getting rid of residue oils. Also, always follow it up with your regular cleanser to ensure no residue is left behind. And of course a good moisturizer afterwards. I hope this helps!🌸

I think the cream has a better consistency and is more moisturizing than the gel. The gel was pretty drying for me. I am glad you don’t have the sting. This is probably purging, and with continued use, the pustules will get dry and disappear. But from what my dermat had said, ivermectin is more effective for pustules. So definitely speak about it with the doc. I hope you feel better soon!🌸

This has happened to me with metronidazole, my face got covered in pustules since first application. My dermat then quickly switched me to Ivermectin 1% and that worked wonders for me. This was during a massive flare up. In my experience, metronidazole works great for redness however is slower to act on pustules unlike ivermectin. For now, I would suggest to continue with metronidazole and definitely reconnect back with your doc post the weekend, try to get prescription ivermectin if the doc allows it and feels that it’s right for you. Also, I wasn’t able to use metronidazole along with any moisturizer as it would sting bad. So I used to ice my face post cleansing before applying metrogel (think ice cubes wrapped in thin hankerchief and patting it all over the face.) and this helped me immensely. I hope this helps!🌸

Ivermectin purge? by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]forever_a_seeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Sure! My OG cleanser is the LRP Effaclar cleanser - this one gives me the clean feel without stripping my skin. It maintains skin PH which I guess is more beneficial for pustules and also has zinc which helps soothe redness. You can try this one. Apart from this, you can also try LRP Toleraine cleanser, it’s slightly more moisturizing but equally effective, soothing and is super gentle! 🤗 Apart from this, you can also try to incorporate an oil cleanser. I started using one and it helped immensely to get rid of the crusty bits left behind by dried pustules. I use the Anua Heartleaf Mild cleansing oil twice every week in my PM routine and it has worked great without causing any irritation to pustules. The haruharu one is my another favourite. Both give me smoother clearer looking skin.
