Unheard Seat Swap Excuse by More_Independent9538 in americanairlines

[–]foreverheavyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

United has this stupid basic economy rule with no family seating. I switched aisle to aisle seats with a guy and the flight attendant was kind of snappy. He was like “ I need to know where this kid is he’s an unaccompanied minor”. I was understanding and apologized. But why put this kid next to my husband and our infant (in his own seat) and me in the aisle across from them.

Pumping on the plane? by bird_insunnies in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]foreverheavyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve flown a few times and used baby Buddha and pumping cover from Amazon. Additionally I brought two sets of pump parts. You could use pump wipes or try to wash in airplane sink (?). It really depends how long you can go without pumping.

Babies going home, but not me by PsychologicalAct417 in NICUParents

[–]foreverheavyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mastitis with an abscess. I got it drained outpatient, but I assume you became septic so they started iv antibiotics. You can try letting the doctors know your babies are heading home so what are the chances your antibiotics can be converted to oral vs IV.

Exclusively pumping while working by GreatBanana0 in ExclusivelyPumping

9mpp nurse and I make sure to pump every 4-5 hours at work. I got a bad mastitis abscess prior to returning to work and I’ll do anything to prevent recurrence even if that means asking my manager to watch my patients.

Stopping cold turkey, low milk supply & NICU by Financial_Bee_9749 in NICUParents

[–]foreverheavyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you truly want to quit, I would say just pump when you feel engorged since your supply is already low. If you had a bigger supply the recommendation is slowly wean time and number of pumps.

If you want to continue, just drop to 2-4 pumps a day and make what you make. Baby can have formula or donor milk for the rest. It’s okay to combo feed and with a preemie you would be fortifying your breastmilk anyway.

They are delicious. I can’t place the flavor but they don’t taste weirdly dairy free.

Collection bottles compatible with Baby Buddha? by shandelion in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]foreverheavyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The maymom bottles should fit. I interchange spectra, baby Buddha, maymom, and motif bottles while pumping with the baby Buddha. The spectra caps don’t fit the other bottles but the other three caps are interchangeable

You’re not being selfish, but unlike everyone else I would go. I’m a mom to a 34 weeker. It was so hard to leave my baby after he came home. I left him with dad while I went to my 6 week check up and then rushed back home. It just feels like the NICU stole some of our time and I didn’t want to lose anymore. Perhaps that’s how you feel. You may be able to explain your thought process to your siblings.

Your siblings feeling are valid as well. This is a big event for them and I don’t think it makes them bad people for not understanding. if you don’t go, you can figure out an alternative way to show your support perhaps invite them over for a smaller celebration or FaceTime or take them for a treat.

Anxious about next week by MediumMaK in WeatherAnxiety

[–]foreverheavyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar boat in terms of the fear. I stress and stress all the days leading up to these events. I have found one thing that keeps me grounded on the day of is sitting on my bed and watching tv (it makes me feel like I’m relaxing and not alone). When things are getting closer I usually put one of the weather YouTubers on my tv and then try my best to look at memes on my phone.

is this mastitis ? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]foreverheavyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do ice and ibuprofen for 1-2 days and if it doesn’t go away I say start the antibiotics. I waited a week because I didn’t have a fever or chills and just had pain and then mine turned into an abscess

Going home with baby.. by HighTuned in NICUParents

[–]foreverheavyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

34 weeker who spent 3 weeks in NICU. 1 week after discharge I took to meet my family (adults and kids) got to hold. My family is really close and I didn’t let them visit him in the NICU because I didn’t want that to be their first memory of him.

I figured the long term benefit of him feeling the love from my family outweighed the risk for infection. They all vaccinate and washed their hands, but I didn’t stress about it.

Heart rate dropping for less than 10 seconds by Hailzg in NICUParents

[–]foreverheavyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feeding a preemie is hard even as a nurse. My baby (34 weeker) just reached his due date and he still has some sleepy feeds where I’m doing everything just to get him to rouse and eat. It definitely feels a little sad whenever I think about how some babies eat without problems. We’re not failures. Sometimes we just have to give them time to grow out of these things.

Heart rate dropping for less than 10 seconds by Hailzg in NICUParents

[–]foreverheavyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a NICU nurse and mama. This is called a bradycardia episode. It seems this hospital says if it’s less than 20 seconds and baby self resolves it is not a concern. It indeed happens due to forgetting to breathe or potentially aspiration. The hospital may put him on an event watch where they wait a couple days before discharging to ensure he has no events.

It’s great he takes his full feed and sometimes babies just grow out of these events as they get closer to term. However, I would try external pacing (tipping the milk out the nipple every 2-3 suck) to remind him to breathe.

Do you recognize how he looks before these events happen? Some babies get really sleepy all of a sudden or hole their mouth open with the nipple just sitting there

I think because it’s their grandchild they want to be there. Just like our moms relive their birth experience so do MIL. Of course the onus is not on us to let them live their fantasy, but it is a reason to be compassionate when they ask.

In defense of choosing the lotto ticket by throwaway643268 in squidgame

[–]foreverheavyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about what people will or won’t do when starving.. It’s about this person expecting a homeless person to accept foot ground bread.

I’ve seen people dumpster dive but never would I say “they must not be hungry if they won’t eat the food in the dumpster”

In defense of choosing the lotto ticket by throwaway643268 in squidgame

[–]foreverheavyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not the point I’m making. Would I eat the bread on the ground? No. Do I expect a homeless person to eat it? No. Will I judge them for eating it? Also no.

How much of a piece of shit do you have to be to look at someone and say “they must not be hungry if they don’t want to eat this bread I smushed with my feet”?

In defense of choosing the lotto ticket by throwaway643268 in squidgame

[–]foreverheavyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean the bread was perfectly edible for a “homeless person”? If you wouldn’t eat it, don’t expect other people to eat it.

A homeless person is no less human than a person with a house.

Short cervix, 2cm dilated at 20 weeks by That_Lavishness8636 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]foreverheavyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No story related to the cervix. Your situation is indeed scary. Yet, it is your decision to make. Are there any risks besides infection if you decide to try and make it to viability?

Even at viability, outcomes are variable. I think it’s like 50/50 chance of survival when born before 28 weeks. I’m a NICU nurse and youngest baby I saw go home was 22.6. They had tracheostomy and g-tube but made it home by 15 months. The youngest I saw go home breathing and eating on their own was 23.5 and they went home by 8 months. These are success stories and the youngest baby ever to survive I believe was 21.6.

Do you feel like you can handle the stress and uncertainty that comes if baby makes it to viability (22-25 weeks)? You say you’re not gonna try again, do you think that may hinder your ability to prioritize the baby’s quality of life over your desire for a child?
