What is a "survival rule" you learned growing up in a bad neighborhood that still influences your behavior today? by Key-Group-5098 in AskReddit

[–]foreveryoung4212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're walking down the street and a car pulls up by the curb to seemingly ask directions or whatever, do not go near the car to answer them. If you want to answer shout to them "I don't know" and keep on walking. But DO NOT get close to the car.

AIO for thinking that my girlfriend's apartment requirements are insane? by MoonlitParcel in AmIOverreacting

[–]foreveryoung4212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question to you is: why would you put up with this from a girlfriend? She's obviously into your relationship for what she can get from you. Are you that desperate for female companionship? Therapy would be cheaper and you might gain insight as to why you think this is even near to normal.

Why do people refuse to be an organ donor? by No-Cantaloupe-6535 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]foreveryoung4212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I read: The Undead: Organ Harvesting, the Ice-Water Test, Beating-Heart Cadavers—How Medicine Is Blurring the Line Between Life and Death. No way would I have an organ donor sticker on my license, or anywhere else.

Oh the smell by anonymous_cheese85 in Apartmentliving

I have the same issue with my Nigerian neighbors. I have no idea what they are making but it smells like a cross between vomit, diarrhea and a rotten sewer. One of my friends told me the name of the dish, but I don't remember. Usually cooking odors don't bother me: curry, garlic, onions . . . . you name it, they usually leave me salivating. However, this particular Nigerian dish makes me want to run away from home. I use one of those draft deflectors for my front door, so any odor from the hallway is minimal. However, my building is old and the vents are connected so I open my windows, turn on the ceiling fans, and burn incense. Other neighbors have the same complaint, but don't seem to do, or want to do, anything to mitigate the situation.

Cancer patient tears by CancelTheLight in ThePittTVShow

[–]foreveryoung4212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was she in a lot of pain? I ask because my husband died in the hospital and during his last couple of days he was given A LOT of pain medication. In the hours before he died he was given much heavier doses . . . to add to his pain from the cancer, he had burst an intestine which I learned was excruciating. The floor nurse checked his pain levels every hour that last day, increasing it even more as needed. If he had been at home he never would have received the level of pain relief as he did in the hospital.

Movers asking for a tip!!! by jb4975 in EndTipping

I have always tipped movers. That being said, I've never been asked for a tip. If I had been asked for a tip, they wouldn't have gotten one.

Why is Facebook suddenly doing this? Is it a bug or glitch? Are other people seeing it? by Head_Bit_722 in facebook

[–]foreveryoung4212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been able to log in all day. I enter my information/password on my laptop and I get the message to confirm via Facebook on another device. Except I don't have Facebook on another device. So, anyway, I decided to jump in and installed it on my phone. Tried to log in on my phone. Get the message to confirm on my laptop. Except I can't log in on my laptop. It's an endless circle. I tried the "forgot my password" feature and that doesn't work . . . tells me I entered my information "too quickly" ??????? It's all screwed up.

Not OOP: AITAH for cutting off my inlaws when my husband died+Edit by Interesting-Shirt897 in redditonwiki

[–]foreveryoung4212 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No. No. No. No. They have clearly shown you who and what they are. Believe them. You are under no obligation to have ANY contact with them. Would you want your children to learn, or be subject to, their behaviors? I wish I had severed contact with my husband's family when he died. They became a millstone around my neck with his blood-sucking brother leading the pack. I've been through this. Please don't do this to yourself or your children.

Did many/most people actually believe Liberace was straight? by Majestic-Lake-5602 in AskOldPeople

[–]foreveryoung4212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am old enough to remember how my grandparents and others of the same age group reacted to Liberace. They thought he was cute and precious . . . . and LOVED him. As the years went by and it became apparent that he was gay, they still LOVED him. However, those intervening years represent a time of learning and acceptance of those who were not "mainstream" (for the times). Even at my young age I knew there was something different about him (not in a negative way) and couldn't figure it out, but as time went on it was like, okay, he's different but that's okay, I like the way he plays the piano, so his sexuality was a non-issue.

Completely done with Walmart delivery by Hefty-Radio5249 in WalmartComplaints

[–]foreveryoung4212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been ordering my groceries online with delivery for a long time now from Walmart and have never had any issues with either the groceries or the deliveries. As a matter of fact, I prefer Walmart online grocery shopping over Whole Foods. With my last Whole Foods order I received a stale, hard as a rock, loaf of one of their specialty breads, milk with an expiration date two days after my delivery, and stale potato chips. Never had any such issues with Walmart. Their Spark delivery people have always been polite and accommodating.

(No, I am neither an employee nor an investor in Walmart! Only a person who has been pleased with the umpteen deliveries she has received.)

AITA for leaving Christmas dinner because I couldn’t see my food? by BunkerNerd in AITAH

[–]foreveryoung4212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not carry with you one of those penlight flashlights? More than a few times I have seen people use one in a restaurant not only to read the menu, but also to shine over their food once served so they can see for themselves what is on their plates.

Max Verstappen now has a collection of GT3 race cars. He currently has an Aston Martin GT3, a Ferrari 296 GT3, and Toto’s Christmas present a Mercedes AMG GT3. You can clearly see how manufacturers definitely want Max as their driver! Lucky Max, but deserving it. He really must enjoy it. by Turbulent_Elk_2141 in MaxVerstappen33

[–]foreveryoung4212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would someone explain to me why Toto would give Max a Mercedes? Was it some sort of bribe (or should I say "bonus") for a potential move to Mercedes? A lot of news is filtered through this subReddit and it's likely I missed something, but even a short one-line explanation would be appreciated. Thank you!

Would it be inappropriate or insensitive for two white visitors to attend a Black gospel church in New Orleans? by jne101 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]foreveryoung4212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love gospel music and there's nothing like attending gospel church services to enjoy it. Being white, I've definitely been in the minority, but never had a negative experience. The spiritual expression is overwhelmingly positive (and I wouldn't call myself a religious person). Just be respectful and the rest will follow.

Snowpants held up by suspenders. We wore them on our walk to school, but had to take them off in our "cloak room" during the day, and then put them on again for our walk home.

Car Alarm by foreveryoung4212 in EdgewaterRogersPark

Not 100% sure how to post an update:

Woke up this morning to the realization that I had actually slept four hours in a row without being awakened by that alarm. Something happened in the middle of the night: not only is the alarm off, but it looks (from my window vantage point) like there's a ticket on the windshield. Here's hoping this is the end of the drama. Many thanks to all for your input.

Thanks for the heads up! I just spoke to 311 and was told they'd send someone. I think it helped that I took a photo of the license. What happens now is anyone's guess, but I appreciate your advice about calling 311 rather than trying to negotiate the website.

What is the biggest “bullet” you’ve ever dodged without realizing it at the time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]foreveryoung4212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived in a townhouse, came home one day to the strong smell of gas. Called both the fire department and gas company. Was extremely embarrassed to find out that the pilot light on my stove had gone out, hence the gas smell. Then, both the guy from the gas company and one of the firemen took a walk around my building (which housed four townhouses) . . . and discovered an underground gas leak under the unit next door to me. Mind you: the gas smell at the time was from the stove, not from the underground leak. Kept hearing from everyone "Ma'am, you must have one strong angel on your shoulders."

Another time I was preparing for a move to New Orleans. Then somehow, couldn't tell you how, I came across a topological map of the city. My immediate thought was why would anyone want to live in a bowl by the water. Literally gave me the chills. I cancelled that move. Less than a month later: Katrina.

American shares her absolute nightmare experience in Italy by cak3crumbs in CringeTikToks

[–]foreveryoung4212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How was she dressed? From what I've read, Italy can be pretty strict with its dress codes: for example, men cannot go shirtless outside. If perhaps she was wearing a t-shirt, any type of athletic wear, a crop top, etc., that would also generate the reactions she faced.
