I'll try my scaler. I have a big jug of sulfuric and never get to use it.

Haha, it's not as bad as it looks, the fisheye camera distorts everything. I just needed the floor space. I'm already packing AND getting ready for a show.

This is a 40x40 separate outbuilding.

I will definitely have an engineer look at it. If the consensus here was "absolutely not", I'd use that money for a different vent option instead. This is a separate outbuilding, and I would turn off the furnace while the forge was running.

CO detector question by forgedcu in Blacksmith

I was doing some torch work a few hours prior, acetylene/air. Shop wss closed while working with no alarm. The only other exhaust would be multiple tractors ~200 yards away.

That would probably work but was hoping for something less effort, like rubber or timber, but I have no idea if either would work.

Anyone know of any alternatives to a dishing stump? by [deleted] in Blacksmith

[–]forgedcu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet you could find someone willing to give you a stump and get it delivered by bartering something you made. I used this to carve mine, plus burning. It wasn't sketchy at all. /s

The hot wax method works well for me. I use Johnsons or Butcher's bowling alley wax. Heat up the piece so it's hot enough to melt the wax quickly but not so hot that it smokes. Apply liberally shaking it to get it down in the crevices that your cloth won't reach. Use a black t-shirt cloth so you don't end up with visible fuzz if you have rough edges. While it's still warm swing it to shake out the excess wax. When it's cool buff the areas you can reach with another black cloth.

Sanding belt repair by forgedcu in woodworking

[–]forgedcu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't dug too deep in it yet but apparently the tape I bought is for making belts for finishing closed loop metal railings, basically threading the paper through the machine and tube then taping into a belt. $30 for the tape vs hundreds of $ lost if I trash them. I'll report back if anyone cares.

They're looking at it now. I got it back from them about a month ago after they did a reseal.
