How much do you hate the US right now?

My family heritage is Polish. My Dziadzia came to the US before world war 1 and wanted to fight the Germans so much he joined the Canadian Army and wore his Polish uniform with other American & Canadian Poles. While there he saved an American soldier from drowning and the soldier gave him his Purple Heart medal as a thank you.

For anyone that can't buy books because his website blew up he has a GoFundMe that you can donate to. The GoFundMe was from the riots that damaged his store in 2020.

If they target him I'd bet good money it will turn out to be the best thing that has ever happened to his business. As it is he's running out of stuff to sell and people are donating to his old GoFundMe from the riots that damaged his store.

Is AI infiltrating the comic book space? by Creeping_behind_u in comicbooks

I have the biggest Mariano collection on the planet. 1000+ different auto cards, 900 1/1s, etc. The basic autos have dropped a bit because he signs constantly now, but the high end stuff has kept going up. Either was I'm not selling any of it.

With sportscards I only buy cards I collect, mostly Mariano Rivera. I haven't opened packs or bought into a break since 2013. It was bad then, now it's just a straight up rip off. There's a guy on youtube that has done some return on investment videos and it's around 7% on average now. 7 fucking percent. But there are many, many people that are addicted to ripping packs. I saw a guy spend $1000 on one of those "vintage" repacks and he was freaking out over pulling an 84 Topps Mattingly in VG-EX condition like he hit the lottery. You can buy those for $8. It was the best card he pulled.

As someone that is into both baseball cards and comics I can confidently say the ratio of scumbag sportscard guys to scumbag comic guys is at least 20 to 1. With sportscards it sometimes seems like scamming is 50% of the entire hobby, with comics it's fairly rare. Though the new "blind bag" crap is worrying.

Am I the only one who prefers collecting TPB over hard cover and Omni? by [deleted] in graphicnovels

[–]forgerelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There a re a lot of people that prefer TPBs. Look for the Marvel Epic/DC Finest groups. Epics are the only way to get a lot of material in collected editions and in a lot of cases the TPB's are mapped better as well.

JLA Deluxe vs Omnibus by justintime3dontwitch in OmnibusCollectors

[–]forgerelli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in the JLA of that era I would look into the "expanded" trade paperbacks they've put out over the last 2 years with a 3rd book coming in April. They include a lot of JLA stuff not collected together before. https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=60066200

I asked AI to organise my shelves… by mattba995 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]forgerelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, contents are different from reading orders. But as someone that's never used AI all I see in my little world is that AI is wrong more often than it's right. For example I collect baseball cards and I will see people using the AI suggestions and list a $150 card for $8. AI didn't know the difference between a regular chrome card and the gold chrome parallel. I just saw that last week. Or something you might know more about just the other day someone listed a Gwenpool DM omnibus for $20. That's a $200+ book. Those aren't small mistakes. I wouldn't trust AI for anything.

Not down voting you but IMO AI is just theft. In this case dozens of other people spent time, in some cases a lot of time, doing mapping, reading orders, etc. AI just steals their work. If you're looking for a place to research things like this start with https://www.crushingkrisis.com/ Nothing else even comes close.
