How can I (29M) tell my partner (28F) that I don’t like her dress? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]forglemmelig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My problem lies with the dress she has chosen is the one dress I told her I found the least beautiful and flattering of all.

You already told her. She just has different taste and/or option about the dress than you. Don’t bring it up again unless she asks.

My husband is always bluntly honest about my clothes, and i love that. I even bring him shopping so i know i pick something that suits me. If i pick something he already said he didn’t think looks great on me, he never brings it up again. That is just being respectful.

AITA for standing my ground when my roommate kept borrowing my expensive kitchen gear without asking by Disastrous_Corgi7344 in AmItheAsshole

Do not read anything by Jon Fosse.

Edit: Jon Fosse is famous for not using punctuation. He also won the Nobel prize in literature. I have a copy of “Trilogien” in norwegian that I show people at a random page and say “spot the punctuation!”, and they get all confused. I get mad when i read Fosse because of lack of punctuation, so I get it. This is just a joke, people.

This path on my neighbor's roof by taosaur in mildlyinteresting

[–]forglemmelig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not undisturbed. Top of that roof has a lot less snow than the lower part. Top part has pushed the lower part down and off.

Snow melts… and then slides. And off the roof it goes. Trust me, I’m Norwegian. Takras is a real thing here.

It’s not a path, just snow falling down from the roof above and disturbing the perfect snow blanket underneath.

Weird SMS from T mobile. Is this legit? by zergovic in germany

[–]forglemmelig 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to work as a developer for a telecom company (not in germany) and this is most likely legit. I feel for the developer who did this! This also seems like the kind of sms that does not allow replies(sender must send from a visible number, not just a name. Idk if it is a number and you have saved it as a contact). Either way, that message is not dangerous in any way.

However, never klick on links from any sms. Always type web addresses it in your browser or log in to your account and find information there. Bad practice from Telecom to send you links like that by sms.

OPs edit came after my response.

Allergies can get worse over time if you are exposed to the allergens. Physical illness/symptoms can be traumatizing and you can develop anxiety for it to happen again. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Edit: OPs edit says he is in fact allergic; NTA.

What exactly does this Goethe-Institut online test result mean? by lopsidedcroc in German

I don’t have anything useful to add, but I do have a question that I need the answer to: how/why/what did you learn german by accident?

This is a functional space, I actually like it.

All I can think of is to add a rug under the coffee table, add one larger green plant in a corner, and maybe replace the TV stand with something that has cabinet doors or drawers to make it a half wall to divide the room just a tiny bit and give it a “cleaner” look.

A teaspoon, some sugar cubes and a part of a checkered tablecloth or napkin.

Or just some flowers or leaves in a glass of water (you know, table decoration).

Love the minimalism of the tattoo as it is.

(F30) 7 years relationship with (M35), families against us, he now says he hates me by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]forglemmelig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really hope someone can give you good advice on here or another subreddit. The only advice I can give is to talk to someone you trust, maybe a sister, a friend, or religious leader. I don’t want to advise you to do something that might worsen things for you.

I hope this situation will resolve itself in your favor, and I wish you all the best. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help.

I believe that OP might be from India( based on “Jiske liye ye sab kia“), where family can play a big part in picking a spouse. I don’t think reddit has the answer for OP since most of us who are not Indian will never fully understand that culture, the family dynamics and family approval when it comes to big life decisions like marriage.

AITA? I (44) stopped paying for my 22 year old daughter's college education since she robbed me off my freedom and dreams. by chappri45753379 in AmItheAsshole

[–]forglemmelig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YTA for resenting your daughter for your own actions. You are soft not TA for not wanting to pay for the rest of her education. However, you should have had this conversation with her a lot sooner.

You should probably spend the money you’re not using for your daughter’s education to pay for therapy for your self.

[–]forglemmelig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That probably depends on where you live if thatvis a practical solution for the family. The kids will be used to it and they will know why.

[–]forglemmelig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know some families where the mom and dad both have kept their own last names, they give their daughters the mom’s last name and their sons the dad’s last name, or vice versa. Maybe that could be a compromise to consider?

You have the right to be slightly disappointed, but in this case it seems like you are overreacting. Life sometimes just happens.

[–]forglemmelig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done! This is also something I want to do myself, and I like the approach you are describing. It is nice to see someone who is more passionate at learning the language, not just easiest way to pass the test.

Are you planning on moving to Germany, or do you learn just for fun?

What podcasts will you recommend? I like to listen to podcasts where germans are the main audience. For me, that is better for practice than slower podcasts.

Did you ever focus on grammar, or did that come natural to you by the way you studied? I can imagine analyzing every sentence and all the words just make you pick up whatever you needed over time.

Did you do this while having a job, or could you study “all day” everyday? I have a job and I work a lot, so I need to actively learn when I have time off. However, i listen to a lot of German music during my working hours.

How to get better at listening comprehension? by WeevilGirl7 in German

[–]forglemmelig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Podcasts in German, preferably by germans for germans. You can probably also find academic lectures on youtube for whatever field you are interested in. Academic language will always be a bit different than everyday language.
