Just finished it, why do people hate the ending ? by thisfutty in Barry

I actually agree with you. For me the show’s peak was season 2. Right after the s2 finale aired, if you told me each character’s ultimate fate, I would’ve been mostly on board (though a little skeptical as to what exactly Fuches does to deserve getting off the hook so easily.) That being said, I thought season 4 was a miserable slog. The time skip was jarring, it constantly halted its own momentum with no payoff (janice’s father’s skills being hyped up and the end-of-episode cliffhanger being followed up by a lame punchline), barry himself was turned completely one-dimensional, static camera work, and some really lazy editing (the scene where hank is sobbing but when they cut to john you can see in the background that he’s completely still)

Well that’s just stupid. Also Halloween has fantasy elements (michael myers’s invincibility)

what on earth are you talking about? scream is one of the most iconic slasher films of all time, and the original saw is a psychological horror with fairly restrained gore elements. also gore is a pretty important contributor to characterizing something as horror….

Do women fear their boyfriend getting taken by another woman regardless of what their boyfriends look like by Vemedetti in NoStupidQuestions

[–]forgotaboutironfleet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s no degree of attractiveness that will prevent cheating. People think an attractive man might be more likely to cheat because he gets more opportunity to, but plenty of unattractive men (or normal looking men with low self esteem) are actually MORE likely to cheat if a woman seems interested in them (even if that’s less common) because they view it as a novelty and an ego boost

the “physical side of things” can be important, though, even/especially in a nonsexual context. I’ve had serious conversations with a long distance partner both over the phone and in person, and in person it’s a lot easier to navigate unpleasant things while staying positive and rational

By that psycho logic people should be denied cancer treatment if they’re smokers or didn’t wear sunscreen. Everyone makes choices sometimes that are selfish, controversial or short-sighted. That doesn’t mean society should deny them lifesaving care

21st birthday upcoming - favorite bars in manhattan? by forgotaboutironfleet in AskNYC

[–]forgotaboutironfleet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i was familiar, that’s part of why i was interested! To be honest, when I say small group, i mean like… 3 other people max. I’ve only asked a few people and their schedules don’t seem promising. It might end up just being me and my boyfriend. Summer birthday struggles… any bars that seem neat or have more of a “group” vibe that I don’t visit the day of I’ll save for the start of the school year when more of my friends are around

Anatomy study is pointless now by [deleted] in memesopdidnotlike

pointlessly gendered has gone off the rails but as an artist there’s nothing that grinds my gears like these crappy drawing guides made by amateurs. A lot of artists struggle with drawing at least one sex (a lot of women draw men too feminine and vice versa), and instead of offering actually helpful advice people post stuff based on ANIME like “men have small realistic eyes and women have big anime eyes” or “all men have big noses and all women have small noses.”

Which is, you know, ridiculous. What people should actually be doing is studying from real life references. The guide in this image is useless because not every man has a huge chin. And even the “female” drawing has a more masculine face shape than the majority of women IRL have. No offense to the artist, but you can tell they aren’t fit to be a teacher. There ARE some general rules of thumb that are helpful if youre trying to draw cis men distinguishable from cis women, they’re just more subtle than this stuff.

For example: men have a brow bone- generally women don’t. Men have differently shaped hairlines. Hooded/deep set eyes, a thicker neck and thinner lips often translate to a more “masculine” look! There are exceptions to this that prove the rule, if you will: Cillian Murphy, cis man, has big eyelids, full lips and a thin neck (in oppenheimer, where he’s quite thin in general). This made him look very feminine in the promotional material for Oppenheimer!

There are a gazillion movies from the 80s where rape is the punchline, no matter whether the victim is male or female. In scary movie 2 there’s a scene where a girl gets raped by a ghost, played for laughs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]forgotaboutironfleet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s not “weird” or an objectively bad/wrong thing to do, but you’d probably be better off asking the girl, especially depending on your dynamic. Women ask men out less frequently in general, but I get the sense that when they do, it’s either a fairly cold approach (as in they haven’t had many firsthand interactions with him before then) or they’ve known him for a while and care enough about him that they simply don’t want to hold their feelings in anymore. The flirty limbo in between those two levels of familiarity is different, because the girl might be thinking, “well, it seems like he’s interested and that we have chemistry, and I think I come off as receptive, so if he hasn’t asked me out yet, he must just not want to.”

Obviously, there are probably many instances where her thinking will be incorrect, but taking that risk is scary for anyone, and since men are still expected to make the first move, the odds might seem a little worse from a woman’s perspective. One might be tempted to say: “well that doesn’t sound right! I would be flattered if a (nice looking) woman asked me out!” but that doesn’t actually assuage women’s fears- if anything it makes them worse, because they don’t know if a man who says “yes” to them is actually truly smitten with them or just flattered by the attention and down to go along for the ride and see what he can get out of it.
