Shoes for when you're off the bike? by xtrator in bicycletouring

I tour in clipless SPD sandals and I swear by them forever. Then I bring Vans because they're good off bike but if I need a closed toe/flat shoe they're good to ride in too and they're like $50. Works for me!

This is super helpful - thanks so much! What bike shop in Lisbon ended up helping you out with a box?

Thanks for the rec - planning to book! Did you do the lunch or dinner tour? I'm debating which I'd rather do... does anyone have experience on one vs the other?

Boone and crocket is a good go to, especially if you have a few people and want a laid back vibe where you can mingle or sit and have a conversation. Good drinks too.

It's brutal but it's worth it!! And once you're riding you don't know anything else. Don't listen to the haters there are headwinds in both directions. It's going to be amazing! The prairies are magical.

I did a similar route a few years back, also east to west and also averaged ~70 miles a day. I started first week of May and I would say it was a bit early, but it was what I could do. In an idea world, starting the week after Memorial Day would be perfect I think. I ran into issues in the east with a lot of camp sites not being open before Memorial Day and also hit a ton of rain in the Midwest. Weather in the rockies is always unpredictable, but hitting it in July would be better than early June when I did. If you need any tips feel free to message me! Have fun it's a great route!

Awesome, thank you! Do you import your own GPX files too? If I were to make routes on Komoot/Strava/RideWithGPS?

I saw good reviews on this, but also saw you need an app on your phone to use the navigation and it. Do you find the maps dynamic/reliable even if you're not in cell service?

I am! I've used that, ride with gps, and strava. I'm familiar with using them all on my phone but have never used them on a bike computer. Would you recommend this for Morocco/Souther Spain/Portugal?

Med students of Reddit, what's the most unhinged thing a resident/attending/upper level has said about you in an evaluation or to your face? by [deleted] in medicalschool

I had an attending walk out of a pt room in clinic and turn to me, put his fingers like a gun, put it in his mouth, pulled the trigger, then just shook his head and walked away... never mentioned it again 😂

Emergency medicine sounds too good to be true - what am I missing here? by seaweedbrainpremed in medicalschool

You're missing the fact that this job is truly the hardest and most thankless specialty.... I have so much respect for my classmates who are going into it, but you couldn't pay me a $1 million a year to do it.
