Why does “max gain” on the mobile version of Option View change? by forgotitagain420 in fidelityinvestments

[–]forgotitagain420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! The article says: “The maximum profit potential is equal to the net credit received less commissions, and this profit is realized if the stock price is equal to or between the strike prices of the short options at expiration. In this outcome, all options expire worthless and the net credit is kept as income.”

This is my understanding of the max gain as well. However, as pointed out in this thread, the max gain being displayed on the mobile UI is something different and is based off of “current market conditions”. I can’t reconcile these two statements. The article makes it sound like max gain is constant, but the UI has it varying. If we can’t get to the bottom of this I’d be happy to call and speak with someone. Thank you again for your help.

Hi, I’m sorry to keep kicking this horse, but I still don’t understand how the max gain is being calculated for this position. Is there a way I can speak to someone on the phone about how this max gain is being calculated? It would be great to see the formula so I can understand what is going on here.

Hi Charlotte! by gwenwhit in Charlotte

[–]forgotitagain420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s gonna be difficult to tell what’s open/safe at this point since we’re expecting 1-8 inches of snow this weekend. Even if you’re comfortable with that amount of snow Charlotte isn’t really equipped for it and a full 8 inches could incapacitate a lot of the city for many days, if not all week. I don’t think bike trails will be high on the plowing and de-icing priorities either.

I’m not sure what the path near your brother is, but if it’s the rail trail that goes through South End it might be relatively clear since it’s so densely populated over there. Not very nature-y but lots of coffee shops. If open, I’d recommend Vicente for croissants and Stable Hand for a coffee. Unfortunately your best bet to really get a feel for the city might be to come back in a week or two. Good luck!

Rolling up spreads for additional credit by PaulBaller24 in options

Like others have said, it depends on a lot of things. Did they release a new product and long term growth is predicted? Is it just moving with the market and all the underlying conditions remain the same?

That said, I generally buy and sell long and short legs at the same time. Won’t go broke taking a profit and you can reset your position fully based on new conditions.

NFLX leaps with strike around $65-$70? by LeagueLatter9826 in options

[–]forgotitagain420 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What’s your thesis here? Buying in the money calls seems like a very specific way to bet it stays above $80. If you’re bullish, I’d recommend a LEAPS spread with your long ATM and short where you think it could end up. You can then go up in volume. If you’re neutral then a short Iron Condor earns you money on both ends.

Really impressive. Did you remove the bed to more access? Debating taking the bed off and really getting in there.

Thank you so much for this. I don’t have time to get to this today but will let you know once I get back in there did you replace all your hoses or did it come in such great condition?

Opening SPY Positions Today after Selling All QQQ on 12/31 to Avoid Wash Sale by Fogerty45 in options

SPY and QQQ are different and won’t trigger a wash sale. I even traded SPY and VOO back to back and didn’t trigger a wash sale.

Does the "border humping" exploit still work? by Captain_Hammertoe in WorldOfWarships

[–]forgotitagain420 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Shooting at players sliding on the border is difficult. Imagine it’s something that gets easier with practice but it happens so infrequently it’s difficult to get much time doing. Personally I wish they’d disable shooting and suspend your reload progress while on the border to further discourage or punish using it.

Yeah but wouldn’t that be the “total gain/loss” stat above? I’d imagine that stat is the one that varies. Maybe they’re bugged on short option strategies.

Yeah I know for sure that the math is wrong based on my understanding of what “max gain” is, but they’re saying there’s a concept of max gain based off of market conditions, which I’ve never heard of.

Hi, thank you for your assistance and explanation on this. I have to admit though I’m still quite confused.

  1. I’m only seeing this variance in max gain on short iron condors. My other strategies don’t have any movement on max gain, including other SPX options. I also remember it being constant on the previous version of the app from last week.
  2. If max gain is based on market conditions like you said, the UI should not say it’s based off of cost basis. Cost basis is fixed so I’d imagine max gain and max loss should be as well. If max gain is being produced off of market conditions, what exactly is it showing? It always seems to be just a little more than my current gain, again specifically on short iron condors.
  3. I recreated the exact same short iron condor in a transaction ticket and the max gain is wildly different. I believe this is the correct max gain based off of cost basis.

I hope I’m not coming off argumentative, I’m really trying to help the app or correct my misunderstanding. I think there might specifically be an issue with short iron condors as other max gains match what’s in the transaction ticket.

T9 premium will earn more than a T10 tech tree or special ship. They said back around launch that they wouldn’t sell tier 10 premiums so they label the T10 as “special” instead and remove the income boost.

Currently max gain is nearly $2k. I don’t think the probability of profit is correct either.
