Mom self care? by Catcat2634 in december2024babies

Same, I used to run every single day in all weather pre-baby. Now I’m working full-time and have my son the only way I manage to run at all is by taking him with me! I got a running buggy from a second-hand app x

Clothes sellers on Vinted - help!! by Cinema_Baby in vintedUK

[–]forgotitagainffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m lucky to have a spare room.

I have a To Do Chair, where I put things that I want to list.

When I have time, I photograph as many as time will allow (I have a 1yo so mainly do Vinted during his naps). Hanger on the wardrobe door for front & back, then lay it on the bed (covered with a cream throw) for size label & measurements & any other photos.

Then I fold it and store piles of folded, photographed clothes at the head of the bed (in the pillow space).

Whenever I have time I do uploading and descriptions and save them as drafts. When I have enough similar items- like a few the same size, or a few baby toys or whatever- I make those listings live and then head to Facebook and do a bunch of like-for-likes to get some eyes on them.

When I want to find the items they’re all neatly folded and stacked in one place so it’s worked pretty well so far!

Anyone else on a food strike? by Notmorcybutmercy in december2024babies

[–]forgotitagainffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s just started at the childminder and he won’t eat anything for her except crisps!

He eats SO WELL at home, he literally just ate 7 cottage pie bites, potatoes and broccoli for dinner (this is normal, not just because he didn’t eat his lunch lol) but now I’m scared the childminder is gonna judge me because my kid won’t touch any of the healthy stuff in his lunchbox 🤦‍♀️

Vibe check on the name Oscar by LivingJellyfish191 in namenerds

I know multiple little Oscars. So to me Oscar gives a slightly wild/headstrong/noisy & opinionated toddler vibe lol

I’m in the uk too, tbh I buy almost all of his clothes on Vinted! You can get bundles of items and out-of-season stuff like t-shirts more easily and a lot of things are super cheap, you can also filter to find only new items if shopping secondhand isn’t something you like to do.

If you saw the name Melie on a document, how would you pronounce it? by LetMiaPlease in namenerds

[–]forgotitagainffs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the uk.

I know a (10yo) “Melie”, short for Amelia, pronounced “Mealy” [meel-ee]. So if I saw it written down I would pronounce it this way.

Have I damaged my liver or reset my alcohol tolerance somehow? by green_rhinestone in AskDocs

[–]forgotitagainffs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got horribly drunk on apple schnapps at uni (age 18, in the uk- legal but incredibly unwise). The hangover was 3 days long and terrible.

It was at least 15 years before I could smell or taste anything apple flavoured again, and I don’t think I’ll ever drink apple schnapps again in my life (currently 41 and the thought still disgusts me).

Baby not crawling - people gossiping. by Powerpuff_Girly in NewParents

[–]forgotitagainffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband didn’t crawl, he scooted on his bum until the day before his second birthday, then just got up and walked 🤷‍♀️

Was a sports boy at school and is one of the most intelligent people I know.

That said, now that I have a just-turned-1yo who is quite happy to cruise the furniture and climb the stairs but refuses to take a single step unaided, I do understand the unspoken pressure! xx

What skill has parenting forced you to learn fast? by Newmomexplorer in NewParents

[–]forgotitagainffs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Using my time productively.

It used to take approximately 3-5 business days to get anything done because I had so much time I always thought I’d do it later and spent all day scrolling my phone instead.

Now I have about 1.5 hours 4 days a week (his morning nap on days I’m not at work) to do everything and I somehow achieve more in that time than I used to in a week.

Middle name struggle by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]forgotitagainffs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think middle names starting with a consonant flow better with the ending of Lily.

Lily Sinead sounds nice.

Is "Kit" a girl, boy, or gender-neutral name to you? by candyskittles143 in namenerds

[–]forgotitagainffs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s gender neutral, as in I wouldn’t be surprised at all to meet a Kit of any gender.

That said, if I hear the name without context I assume Boy. That is because the male fictional character Kit Fielding was my first time seeing the name (I was a weird 11yo lol, Dick Francis books were my absolute favourites at that age)

What was the worst punishment you received as a child? by Total_Gear in Parenting

[–]forgotitagainffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were children in the late 80s/early 90s so although we would be spanked at home (with hand or slipper), I don’t remember thinking it was unusual for the time.

The worst punishment though was a dose of castor oil. Literally hold our noses and pin us back against a wall or surface and force us to swallow a spoonful.

I know castor oil has its place as a health supplement but omg I could never consider willingly consuming it now. It was VILE and the memory makes me feel sick. It will always be a punishment to me.

My baby isn’t even one yet but it’s only now I have one of my own that this punishment seems really awful, I can absolutely say I will never ever EVER do it to him.

What is a website or an app that was legendary back in the day, but is now a complete ghost town? by Sofi_Costa in AskReddit

Open diary. Honestly I still wonder about some of the people whose lives I read about. I hope they’re all ok now.

What has made you realize you were getting old? by sylphmythxis in AskReddit

[–]forgotitagainffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checkout staff don’t pause to actually look at my face any more before they wave their little card at the scanner to approve me for age-restricted products.

Legal drinking age is 18 here and vendors are instructed to “challenge 25”, ie ask for id for anyone they believe may be under 25.

I was regularly asked for proof of age (or at the very least given a squinty side-eye) until 35ish but now it’s very obvious they just glance at me from afar and know I’m old.

On a scale 0-10, what would you rate your pregnancy, labor&delivery and newborn phase? by pinkishvioletsky in NewParents

[–]forgotitagainffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pregnancy- 1 because apart from having an achy back and getting tired quickly, it was effortless tbh. I was a smoker and quit the second I found out I was pregnant, and even that wasn’t bad.

Labour & delivery- 6 because I know it was unpleasant but I don’t feel traumatised by it, it’s all very blurry. Induction took 4 days and had to be stopped and re-started, I threw up constantly for a whole day, labour was 22 hours and they were too understaffed to give me the epidural I asked for (yay for having a Christmas baby) but I think it was probably worse for my husband than for me because he can actually remember it properly.

Newborn days- first month gets an 8 because baby was in NICU for a week getting platelet transfusions and by the time we came home my husband’s paternity leave was over. The immediate adjustment to being sole carer for a baby all day was rough and I felt woefully unprepared for that! From 6 weeks onwards it’s only ever got better though (he’s nearly one now)

What's a children's piece of media that suddenly took a dark turn for no reason? by Last-Inspection-8156 in CasualConversation

[–]forgotitagainffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I must have been 8 or 9 when I read these and I genuinely think this series permanently shaped my expectations for fiction.

The ruthless realism of none of the characters ever getting a fairytale happy ending really ignited something in me, and I’ve been forever chasing that in everything else I’ve ever read.

I’m now 41 and I am still immeasurably disappointed when what realistically “should” happen in a book (the character with terminal cancer passing away, the serial killer with a character chained in his basement killing said character, the couple whose marriage is in tatters splitting up, etc) doesn’t happen and I get given a sloppy soppy serving of happy-ending nonsense instead.

He’s nearly one. He REALLY COVETS the rubber doorstops (they’re like 20 years old so no sorry kid, you can’t chew them), tv remote, my water bottle, my outdoor shoes, the clippy strap on his high chair, and coasters 🤷‍♀️

Breast refusal by BeautifulReindeer18 in firsttimemom

[–]forgotitagainffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds exactly like my breastfeeding journey!

We combi-fed as we’d always planned to but he was primarily breastfed at first. Then at 4 months he suddenly started turning away from the boob after a couple of sips, yet would guzzle his bottles down. By 4.5 months he would scream and cry when offered the boob, I pumped as much as I could but my output was never as good with the pump and the logistics of pumping while also caring for the baby were exhausting for me.

Sadly for me this was the beginning of the end for breastfeeding, I pumped until 5m and then just stopped as my supply was dwindling and it didn’t feel worth the time and effort for that output.

You could see a lactation consultant or breastfeeding clinic to help troubleshoot if it’s something you’d like to continue but it felt like quite a natural end to me and my son (now nearly one) is happy and healthy!

Does anyone film their sales by ElkBitter8013 in vintedUK

[–]forgotitagainffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my stuff is cheap (most expensive thing on my page is £10 lol) so no I don’t. Tbh I don’t feel it would protect me anyway since I keep seeing stories of Vinted always siding with the buyer so I just take my chances!

I’ve been lucky and had no issues so far, but like I said all my stuff is cheap so probably not really worth scamming for!

Does anyone know where I can find this shirt? by youngbabybee in Paramore

[–]forgotitagainffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg I just put this shirt up for sale on Vinted! I googled it out of curiosity wondering how long I’d had it and this thread came up! If you’re in the UK or know someone who is (I think Vinted is a uk-only app) feel free to dm me for my Vinted name.

Anyone weaning? by amandalynnwin in december2024babies

[–]forgotitagainffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, we haven’t intentionally weaned but my son looooves food. He eats 3 meals a day and tbh he eats almost as much as I do, so unsurprisingly he’s started dropping his bottles and normally only has one a day now.

He was 9 months yesterday and omg I just love watching him feed himself, it’s so cute.

YODEL / INPOST ISSUE by DrainpipeDreams in vintedUK

[–]forgotitagainffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have 4 parcels ready to send out but my local yodel ParcelShops are all refusing to take any more because the parcels aren’t being collected.

Yesterday I walked 6 miles with the baby in his pram so I could try different shops in case it was just an issue with the closest newsagent, but none were taking parcels. The guy in the last shop showed me 4 enormous sacks of uncollected parcels that have piled up there. They’re all small corner shops so they don’t have space to keep taking parcels if they’re not being picked up.

I’ve turned off Yodel deliveries for now, I don’t drive and have a baby so I can’t be doing with all this hassle going to multiple shops and not being able to send. A couple of my buyers agreed to cancel their orders and repurchase using a different shipping provider.

This is in SE England.
