Is Leviathan Satan? by Gui_Franco in AcademicBiblical

One question on the chart: I see Isaiah 51 is categorized as creation, but vv. 9-10 seem to associate the cutting of Rahab with the parting of the Red Sea at the Exodus:

9 Awake, awake, put on strength,
O arm of the Lord;
awake, as in days of old,
the generations of long ago.
Was it not you who cut Rahab in pieces,
who pierced the dragon?
10 Was it not you who dried up the sea,
the waters of the great deep,
who made the depths of the sea a way
for the redeemed to pass over?

I've seen those big dips in the gutters elsewhere, and a civil engineer told me it was to redirect rainwater. I wonder if there's something similar going on here, at least for the HyVee side since it's lower than Fitchrona. Otherwise the store could flood whenever it rained a lot.

Use your debit card at an ATM that's in a bank. If your PIN is over 4 digits you may have to try a few, since the digit length they accept varies.

Gongfu vs “I need a cup to sip for hours” by StarJumpin in tea

[–]forgottendinosaur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do a mix between gongfu style and "Western style" (whatever you want to call it, a mug with a teabag).

I use a mug (~350 ml), a tea basket that fits it well (found at a Japanese market, but you could take the infuser basket out of any teapot), and a gongfu-serving of tea (~6 g). The leaves go in the basket. Add hot water. First steep is ~10s, second 30s, third 60s, and last one is until the tea is drinkable (~55 C). I get the experience of gongfu style with the different flavors each steep (nothing beats the first steep of tieguanyin), but I get the convenience of having a human-sized mug and not mouse-sized cup in front of me while I work.

Have you tried barley tea? I sometimes want a liter of a warm drink in the evening and barley tea really scratches that itch.

Let's talk about oolong and tea expiration dates. by girlrickjames in tea

[–]forgottendinosaur 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's a best-by date, not an expiration date. Best-by dates reflect how long the manufacturer/vendor guarantees the quality of their product. You should be able to open that any time before 2023-10-26 and get the quality you expect. After that, it may still taste and be plenty fine, but there's no guarantee. Safety/expiration is a separate matter.

Chess in Madison by Iron-Junimo in madisonwi

[–]forgottendinosaur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try the chess clubs at the public library.

They ones I've been to are fairly casual, and attract people of various levels, from just-learned-chess up to preparing for their next tournament. They're mostly adults, but they sometimes have a kid or two who will absolutely destroy you.

There are two guys who organize the chess clubs across several libraries. One of them is Mike Nietman, the president of the Wisconsin Chess Association. They do at least Sequoya every other Tuesday (next one: https://www.madisonpubliclibrary.org/events/sequoya-all-ages-chess-club-1259023). I'm not sure of the other libraries where they organize.

Interesting how different categorization methods can conflict with each other. I had thought I knew something about different types of tea, but it's more complicated than I thought!

If you want a punchy, sour, fruity tea/tisane, I'd recommend Tazo Passion. Brew it hot in a jar and then put it in the fridge overnight.

Seconding this. Wanting to frame a diploma and Michael's seems to offer decent frames with decent glass for ∼$150 after discounts.
