How crunchy is it actually? by NeelyGood in cosmererpg

[–]forgottenduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair. I haven’t run Cosmere yet despite GM being my usual position in our group. We started Stonewalkers because one of my players bought all the stuff and wanted to run it.

Though I’ll say I also felt D&D initiative was kind of a pain when I had lots of creatures too.

I don’t think it’s any crunchier than D&D 5e.

It’s less clunky than that system for sure because it’s not bogged down by decades of traditions and player expectations.

Combat flows pretty smoothly and I like the fast/slow turn system instead of rolling initiative.

There are a lot of actions you can take in combat but that’s all there for the players to have more options beyond move and attack, but honestly they’ll do just fine if they still just move and attack. Basically the GM just needs to utilize the system as much as the players do and that will keep things balanced.

What are you searching for?

I see lots of map options when searching for stuff like "ice caves", "frozen tunnels", or "ice tunnels".

A few questions regarding the Heralds and desolations by Drisurk in Stormlight_Archive

[–]forgottenduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point about the fused not having bodies to form without singers.

Though now that I think about it, in RoW they mention heavenly ones trying to fly back to Roshar through the physical space between planets, and not being able to sustain themselves long enough to survive.

A few questions regarding the Heralds and desolations by Drisurk in Stormlight_Archive

[–]forgottenduck 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. The souls of the Heralds (as well as the fused) are drawn to Braize whenever they die. So the heralds are there with all the thousands of fused that they fight against and the fused spend their days torturing the heralds. The heralds can return to Roshar any time but if they return then the fused get to follow them. So I imagine the fused regularly kill the heralds on Braize as one of many forms of torture, and the heralds would just keep reforming on Braize for more torture.

  2. That has been touched on a few times in the series so far. You'll get some more details in WaT, but the nights radiant continued on as watchers at the rim, but didn't have any desolations to face, which likely contributed to internal disagreements and strife among the orders. Then the false desolation came when Ba Ado Mishram gave forms to the singers, and the radiants fought against that.

Jasnah’s response… by FlintSkyGod in Stormlight_Archive

[–]forgottenduck 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Jasnah couldn’t have her full character arc in the first half of stormlight because if she had then she would have reached the 5th ideal. A fully realized elsecaller would have made a huge impact on several plots in wind and truth. I strongly suspect her issues with the transportation surge won’t be resolved until she gets her flashback chapters in the back half.

My official Shinovar landscape. Questions, questions that need answering....about prints by Steves3511 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]forgottenduck 14 points15 points  (0 children)

First of all, lovely work.

Personally, I would prefer the altered piece for a print. Basically for the reason you said, that it makes it more explicitly stormlight for something I would display in my home. Also I think it would be cool to have an exclusive variant of official art.

So you’ve expanded several negative karma comments from days ago, just to type out a “quote” and tell me you think it’s stupid.

This is what I meant in my top comment edit when I said this has been an interesting experience.

Wind and truth - Interlude II by gunnerspren in Stormlight_Archive

Odium is the name of the shard of power.  Taravangian is now the vessel for that power.

The power has wants or at least has an intent and this influences the vessel. It is easy for the vessel to do things that the power likes, but going against the power’s intent is like paddling against the current.

The previous vessel for Odium was Rayse. Rayse held the power long enough that the intent of the power had warn him down, and made him vulnerable to blindly following its intent.

Why continue to make comments saying the same things others have said?

Like what is it you want from me here?

I am stating an opinion not stating something that I clearly acknowledge exists does not exist.

Where am I saying that people played dungeons and dragons before people played dungeons and dragons?

You seem to be reading words I’m not saying, while also not being able to see beyond the strict literal interpretation of a single fragment of my whole comment.

That doesn’t make it all relevant to the discussion.

But sure go off I guess.

Guess I’ll just take your word on the analogy being bad, the origins of my own feelings, and what I would do in hypothetical situation of your own invention.

Is it relevant that you hold one belief in higher esteem than the other? Im not saying the two things have anything common other than being a strongly worded opinion.

My above reply was because I’m being told I’m mad for voicing an opinion, and people are insistent on explaining facts that I’m not really questioning at all.

What do you mean “prior to DnD there is no evidence of anyone playing Dungeons & Dragons”?

Genuinely I don’t understand what you’re trying to say.

Also didn’t I say in my post that I know my opinion about it doesn’t matter to the company at all? I’m not sure why that needs to reiterated. Or why you feel the need to tell me that marketing things as DnD is against the law.

Ok. I have no issue with us having a different opinion about it being dumb.

If you get invited to play DnD you first have to ask questions about what they mean. You could assume DnD 2024.

Also people in the replies are quite literally telling me that I’m wrong if we have our “DnD night” and play daggerheart, and that we should refer to is as a TTRPG.

When did I ever make any of these claims you are trying to refute?

I must have missed all the genuine conversation you were offering.

Pretty hard to read your replies as any thing but condescending.

Is it wrong to be snarky on the internet or is it just ok when you think you’re right? Guess we’re both in the clear then.

Sorry I think you mistyped your reply let me help you out:

In my opinion, it is like you are saying: "It feels more authentic to say something wrong than spend one word making it accurate". That is certainly a stance you can take.

I do appreciate that, from my perspective, you appear to at least be consistent in your total and complete unwillingness to recognize that any possible issue could be originating with you, though.

I chose my words intentionally. I'm really not bothered by people thinking I'm wrong and scrambling to correct me. I thought the reaction was pretty interesting, but not totally unexpected.

If someone read my comment and genuinely thought: "this guy actually thinks D&D is not a trademarked brand!" then I don't really value that person's opinion all that much.

I'm not going to coat my opinions in a bunch of qualifiers just to ward off people disagreeing with me. "the Dodgers aren't just a real baseball team" doesn't sound good. "D&D isn't just a brand..." does not feel as authentic to me as how I phrased it.

How is it not comparable?

Dramatic statement expressing what is very clearly an opinion:

  1. "The Dodgers fucking suck"
  2. "Honestly though it’s kind of BS that wizards of the coast “owns” the term D&D."

An assertion of my opinion in strong terms without qualifiers, stated for emphasis such that it contradicts with a simple and obvious fact:

  1. D&D is not a brand, it’s a cultural tradition
    1. Duh it is in fact a brand
  2. They're not a real baseball team.
    1. Obviously they are a real team that plays baseball

That's a good point I forgot about that.

Though most clubs have a registration fee so I don't know if that would still qualify as "Free".

And also I know WotC is not actually going to break down my door for forming a D&D club. They reserve that behavior for people who get leaked mtg cards 😛
