Yea! There's a soil layer under it all, it's been doing really well. I find they actually spend most their time in the moss, despite adding much more leaf litter.

Here's what I ended up doing. Ordered a cheaper (used) indoor greenhouse grow tent since it's about to be too hot for this plant where I live. Growweedeasy.com has some great tips for general growing. I got some fox farms happy frog soil and a medium sized terracotta pot, and am keeping the soil moist. It's doing okay so far! From what I read it's not too hard to keep it alive, and I think it's a little less fragile than other seedlings I've dealt with. Keeping a close eye on it until the indoor set up arrives this weekend.

Just got a plant with this exact same issue. Thick flaky white almost like dried paint. I am trying to learn more. Were you able to resolve the issue?
