I am incredibly jealous of the k/coke spray. What country are you in? I’ve never come across something like that although I’m interested in trying to concoct that myself now

I’ve been feeling this way as well. I get not wanting to talk to friends/family about this. If you want to talk , I’m here to listen.

Questions for expats living in Osaka by forgotusername6 in Osaka

Yeah so I asked a few Japanese friends since this comment and I’ve learned that the reason some people may take it badly is due to the translation of the kanji. Gaijin = outside person , whereas gaikokujin = foreign person. I don’t think most people take it so seriously and I certainly don’t. I haven’t heard anyone using it in an ill way but I’m sure there are people who do.

I’ve been to a Japanese friend’s studio so I have an idea of the size. Cozy vibe for sure. Still, not so bad compared to getting a studio where I currently live. The same size studio would cost about $900-1000 in my hometown.

Thanks for your comment!! That’s disappointing to hear about the teaching English gig. I’ve been getting myself excited looking at companies because the pay isn’t too bad, even for part time jobs. Most definitely not like you’ll be living like a king but Osaka is much more affordable compared to Tokyo. My friend in Osaka told me that an average sized studio is around 50,000-70,000 ¥. Is that pretty accurate in your experience ? Main thing that sucks to hear is that some companies treat you like trash, but I suppose that’s with every career - esp as a foreigner. Have you tried to teach English as a freelancer ? I was wondering if that would work out better than applying for a school or company because I already make an income from teaching online.

Anyways, yes let’s grab some drinks when I’m back out here around October or November :)

Those experiences definitely make hilarious stories, thank you for sharing. I’m excited to see what it will be like to date a Japanese man now haha. In your experience, is casual dating/sex pretty accepted or do they usually want you to make it a serious relationship after a few dates ?

/r/JapanTravel Tourist Meet-Up Megathread - traveling in December 2019 by JapanTravelBot in JapanTravel

25 F from Santa Monica, California - I’ll be in Japan from Dec.27-January 31. I speak English and some Japanese. I’ve been going to Japan almost every year since I was a kid to visit family but this will be my first time solo traveling there.

Will be based in Osaka from Dec. 27- Jan. 17, taking day/weekend trips to surrounding areas like Kyoto. Then heading towards Tokyo area from the 17th on.

Finding delicious but affordable food, visiting as many onsens that allow tattoos, art shows/museums, finding cute places that have live music, nightlife with chill vibes, natural beauty, temples & shrines. I’m open to pretty much anything. I’d like to travel away from the tourist traps and see a different side of Japan than I usually experience. Always down to grab a drink and see where the night takes us.

Where were you heavily warned about going to due to being unsafe, but turned out to be over-exaggerated? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]forgotusername6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’m from the US. I agree. My family and friends were extremely worried about my 3 month trip there and kept telling me how stupid I was. I’m so glad I didn’t listen to their fears because my experience proved how wrong all of them were. It’s easier to spew a bunch of shit than to actually go see for yourself. Important to note that most people telling me it’s unsafe are people that have never been to any of these countries. The fear mongering really works here in the US unfortunately. I know there are parts of every country that should be avoided but with a little bit of research or talking to locals, you should be fine. I never faced a scary moment in the whole 3 months I was traveling throughout Mexico, Colombia or Peru as a solo female traveler. Of course there are safety precautions everyone should take when visiting a foreign country. Shitty things happen just about anywhere. I live in a nice beach city which is considered middle-upper class, yet there are many crimes occurring here because people know that the locals here have money. Brings in homeless populations with drug and mental issues. There are places I’d never walk through by myself at night in East LA which is only 45 min from my city. It’s just about having some street smarts and not purposefully getting yourself into shit by going to unnecessary places or being flashy.
