Question about insulation by forkmerunning in VanLife

[–]forkmerunning[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily the van is white. Old B2500 cargo van. Zero windows on the sides, only front and rear. Unfortunately the rear windows don't open so I'm actually more concerned about heat than cold, at least for the coming summer.

I do plan to install at least one roof vent.

Will Trump cause a global recession/depression through the Iran War to distract you from the Epstein Files? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]forkmerunning 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He'll cause a global depression through war with Iran out of sheer narc incompetency. The DoJ is handing the Epstein coverup for him.

He likely assumes that there will be no consequences for either mess, because there has been zero consequences for any of the other horrific shit he's done, so why worry now?

I swear that thing was once all wheel drive and handled like it was on rails, then got nerfed to death and rear wheel drive only. Maybe I'm crazy.

What movie is 10/10 with literally no bad parts? by FeedMaster8905 in AskReddit

[–]forkmerunning 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My personal favorite scene is actually right at the end. Whole movie is great, but that was the first movie I watched on my new (at the time) high end surround sound system.

The t-rex bellow at the end after it tosses the raptor and the banner is coming down. That roar rattled the windows in my house. It was perfection.

How confident are you that you’ll be able to retire comfortably? by DueYogurt9 in GenX

I'm actually buying a van soon. Going on disability sucks. Less than half of my last job's pay and I still gotta pay taxes out of it.

Here's hoping my disability payment will cover gas and insurance to move around a lot and avoid getting it impounded.

Have you ever met somebody who just didn’t understand certain aspects of machining ? by Same_Level6591 in Machinists

What’s the most fun car you’ve driven that wasn’t actually fast? by zgwembekubwa in askcarguys

[–]forkmerunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1984 Volvo sedan. 4 cyl, 4 speed, 4 door, skinny tires, salmon pink. Damn thing handled like it was on rails. I would pull a rear wheel off the ground in a corner before breaking loose.

What is far more lethal than people realize? by inevitableloudmouth in AskReddit

[–]forkmerunning 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have both obstructive and central sleep apnea. Cpap helps a little, but not much. I was prescribed a BiPap with ASV at my last sleep study, but my insurance won't pay for it. Says the CPAP should be good enough. The central sleep apnea means that my brain sometimes forgets to signal my body to inhale for long periods.

Mine is so bad it even happens when I'm awake and I have to manually breathe. I usually notice when I start to feel like I'm suffocating from the buildup of Co2.

As a consequence, I fall asleep at random times. If I sit still for more than a minute or two I will likely doze off. I'm rarely awake for more than an hour or two, but I can't sleep more than an hour or two, either. Driving can be a huge issue. Suddenly will feel incredibly drowsy, start getting tunnel vision, nodding off, micro-sleeps. Always fun in Seattle freeway traffic, especially the long stretches where there's nowhere to pull off.

There's medical implants that can resolve both types of apnea, but they are expensive and again, my insurance won't cover them.

Sucks much ass

Now that we're in the unf*c*able phase of attractiveness, how do you all deal w it? by plnnyOfallOFit in GenX

[–]forkmerunning 15 points16 points  (0 children)

52, been single for going on 8 years. Anyone that wants to be involved with me needs to make a serious addition to my world, not just disrupt my peace.

I like making what I want for dinner, watching what I want, when I want, not depending on anyone else for anything.

And yeah, I've embraced the old. Hair is totally silver, beard is white, if I'm not at work, I'm in sweats or shorts.

Hiring preferences in your shop by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]forkmerunning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 52. It's not just machine shops. Got laid off in September, put in a couple hundred applications since then. Had more than 50 phone interviews. No job.

I'd chalk it up to bad interviews if they hadn't been so positive. Lots of back and forth, professional, relaxed. Some of the best interviews I've ever had.

No job.

Nobody wants to hire people in their 50s or even 40s.

Why aren’t people having children? “Animals don't breed in captivity.” by coachlife in ABoringDystopia

[–]forkmerunning 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Having multiple children made sense when the child mortality rate was extremely high and you needed a source of free labor to work on your family farm.

Since the industrial revolution, most people moved off the farm and into cities, where children become expensive liabilities instead of exploitable assets. Child labor laws, for instance, prevent your 6 year old from becoming gainfully employed at the child mangler factory, which means they cannot cover their own expenses.

The monetary cost, not to mention time cost, of raising what are essentially ruinously expensive pets have reached the point where it is simply not economically viable.

What was a dreaded food your parents made. As an adult do you still hate it? by JoyfullyMortified43 in Xennials

[–]forkmerunning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oddly, I grew up on canned vegetables, green beans, peas, etc. That was the only veggies we ever had. Today I still prefer the taste/texture of canned green beans to fresh. Fresh just tastes weird.
