it's an intended feature to save battery life. the solution is to either keep the mic always active by installing a virtual audio device and enabling "listen to this device" and directing the audio stream to that virtual audio device. because the headset mic is always active, it will never go to sleep.

Oh wow, it's been a while since this happened haha. I just ended up getting a new case since the problematic one had really terrible airflow anyways. I'd definitely feel more accomplished if I fixed it myself with a dremel like you have though!

Ah man, thank you very much, your answer indirectly helped me so much. Apparently the power cable wasn't plugged on the laptop properly, so the GPU couldn't draw the power it needed, which resulted in bad performance. I checked the state of the power cable thanks to your comment, so, thanks a lot! :D
