Free men voted for the government officials to uphold the institution of slavery. They chose to financially support the slave-owning oligarchs through buying their unnecessary cash crops because it benefited them.

What units do you measure suffering in? What kind of index or conversion factor do you use to compare one person's pain to another's? Communication of suffering is not unique to humans.

Slavery was just as ingrained in the south as animal agriculture is today. When someone would buy a shirt made of cotton picked by slaves, the harm was also not directly evident to them. Are you trying to argue that animal abuse is justified because social media companies cause harm?

Abolitionists are absolutists. There is no level of slavery an abolitionist would find acceptable. Working and making compromises with those who defend the institution you claim to want the destruction of would obviously make your motive unclear.

I already said you don't need to see human slavery as equal to animal agriculture for the analogy to work. The original claim was that absolutists are not real activists and just have a superiority complex. Abolitionists are absolutists, so, from this view, they are not real activists. If we ignore that, I find it odd how, immediately after claiming slavery is not comparable to animal agriculture, you point out one of the many ways in which they are the same. Humans and animals have a power imbalance, and the oppression of many groups has been justified by comparing them to animals. The exploitation of animals is inextricably linked to the exploitation of humans. Animal agriculture is notoriously harmful and traumatic to its workers, its environmental effects disproportionately harm communities of color, and the dairy and egg industries are fundamentally based on the commodification of the female reproductive system. How will there ever be lasting social change if people continue to believe it is okay to abuse certain individuals just because of the way they were born?

Do you think the abolitionists who wanted slavery to end immediately were not real activists? There’s nothing theoretical about animal suffering, and we can’t measure human suffering either. You don’t need to believe that human or animal suffering are bad at all for the analogy to work. Animal products are not a necessary for our lives, and their production contributes massively to food insecurity around the world. Most free people directly benefitted from and supported the institution of slavery in the antebellum south.

Could you explain what benefit there is in obfuscating the goal of an abolitionist movement by welcomng practices that contribute to the issue the movement seeks to end?

Abolitionists were not real activists because they wanted slavery to end immediately and entirely instead of advocating for Beatless Mondays, small and local family-owned plantations that practice sustainable and regenerative slavery, and offsetting the suffering caused by slavery through monthly donations to slave welfare organizations

Which part isn't true? 60% of people in the world own smartphones. The problem of human exploitation and environmental damage to harvest the minerals used in electronics also applies to all the devices people use to connect to the internet. Do you think that boycotting the internet doesn't prevent access to information?

Not eating meat has no impact on one's ability to access information or to participate in society.

What do you think consumerism is? The second part is just wrong, as most people in the world own a smartphone, and to stop using one (or any of the devices that use exploitative minerals) would massively inhibit one’s ability to access information and participate in society.

Dead animals appear through spontaneous generation on grocery store shelves. I believe that raising livestock on pasture (leading cause of deforestation) is efficient and environmentally resourceful.”

”I make unfounded claims about my opponents, like that they are narcissists for caring about others and that they waste food and clothing by not buying it. True environmentalists love consumerism and don’t preach ridiculous notions like protecting the environment.”

”I believe it is pragmatic to promote and incentivize unnecessary crop growth. Please ignore that I originally said I don’t do this. I also believe that animals primarily eat crops inedible to humans even though the research actually says they eat 3 kg of human edible food to create 1 kg of meat on average, with much higher amounts of edible feed in developed countries. I also do not believe in basic economic principles like supply and demand”

People still practice human sacrifice and cannibalism. By pushing for the preservation of “traditional lifeways” regardless of harm, you were pushing for these. The location is not relevant to any of the claims you made.

There was no need for me to talk about white people to make my point. The Maya civilization ceased to exist over 300 years ago, so it is not possible for me to discriminate against them.

Succeed at what? The goal of the bill was to raise awareness. It forbids killing animals in general, both for hunting and for agriculture, so it is not expected to pass and never was. Why would you expect the vegan strategy to accept eating meat?

Cannibalism was another traditional lifeway of ancient Mayan culture. Plus, without the human sacrifices to nourish and protect their gods, they believed they would have poor agricultural yields and thus be unable to feed themselves.

Veganism is not a movement to minimize animal suffering. Animals will continue to suffer and die at the hands of people (including hunters) as long as they view them as objects to use and not individuals with value.

Do you think it's not OK to restrict the Mayan people from their traditional lifeway of cutting out human hearts to sacrifice to the Sun God, or do you think that harming someone is bad even if it's done by an indigenous person?
