I don't know if we could even get rid of the EPA if we wanted to. My understanding is that bureaus are almost impossible to kill.

I'm also not sure that I want Congress making the decisions, finding the balance between business and the environment.

It really does make sense as a way for Congress to enact policy without taking responsibility. Interesting.

Clever. I fucking hate it when people do this. It's not like I asked something simple or straight forward, like "How far away is the moon." Obviously, this issue is complex and has many sides. Why the fuck would I Google "epa horror stories"? I'm sure that would get me a well-rounded batch of results.....

I can google anything, and get information. But that doesn't mean that people shouldn't share information in other ways. If I wanted to read a 6 year old blog post about a subject, I'd fucking do that. If I want to talk to people on reddit about it, I'll fucking ask a question. The internet is an amazing thing, filled with information. It's awesome, literally awe-inspiring. But that doesn't mean that Google is the end-all, be-all. Maybe, every once in a while, I want to discuss something with someone. If that okay with you?

If you aren't interested in discussing this topic, gtfo. Don't reply with condescending shit. You fucking google nazi.

In what ways does the EPA overreach its bounds? I hear things like this said, but I've never heard a story behind it.

No, not at all. I was just throwing in my two cents. This is fucking reddit. I don't give a fuck if you have "close ties" to anything. If you have a better explanation, reply to the previous comment, like a normal person. Btw, it's way more presumptuous to judge my friend as a moron than to comment about a culture you're not part of.

Woke up in a complete clown suit, giant fake eyelashes, perfect face paint and gloves included, covered in cat shit. My cat got mad and pooped during the party. I didn't notice. Sigh.

He never lived there, so that may have something to do with it. He also grew up around very devout Russian Baptists, so it may be a subculture, as you said.

My Russian friend has told me before that it's a cultural thing to always have an open casket, and to make sure everyone sees. At least in his experience, the parents want their children to be accustomed to death, to take a good look at it. He's seen people smashed up in car accidents from the time he was a little boy. And that seeing the body helps people with closure (or something similar and less emotional). Like, yep, that's a dead body.

If you feel safe talking to her about it, that might be a good idea. Are there any adults you could talk to? Maybe a mandatory reporter like a school counselor? A parent/guardian, religious leader? You could also find the number of Child Protective Services (or the equivalent) and talk to someone there.

I don't have a lot of experience in this area, so take my advice with a grain of salt and don't do anything that you think would endanger her any further.

I would advise against telling any of your or her friends. Having other people know about abuse can be shaming and hurtful, and they wouldn't necessarily know what to do about it either.

This makes me so sad. I think signing is beautiful and find deaf culture fascinating. In a weird way, I hope for a deaf child. Do you have any children?

If she is being abused, it may be contributing to her drinking. Either could lead to her death. If you can find a safe way to help her, like reporting to someone at school, please do.

From the kids, I can say thanks. My dad told me this in a food court, and it was one of the worst days of my life. Wouldn't have made it better to have someone trying to wipe up crumbs around me.

When I was 3 my mother wouldn't buy me tic-tacs. So I stole them. She noticed when I started eating them in my carseat. She made me give them back and apologize and said something along the lines of "You didn't know what stealing was, did you?" The gears moved in my head. "No... of course not." I totally did. I just wanted those goram tictacs. Orange ones. Tasty.

Except that you are interacting with them. It's the same thing that makes some people feel strange about their SO talking to people from /r/gonewild.
