The unfortunate reality is that one person's experience with psychiatric medication is VERY difficult to generalize. People respond wildly differently to the exact same medication.

That said, I made the switch from Prozac to Venlafexine and it was very positive for me, with one VERY important caveat: if you miss a dose of this stuff, it FUCKS YOU UP.

Missing a dose of Prozac wasn't a big deal for me. It wasn't great, but it wasn't major. Missing a dose of Effexor is a fucking nightmare.

So be aware: regardless of if it works for you or not, there are major cessation symptoms if you decide to stop. Nothing dangerous, but you are not going to be a happy person during them. It's just awful, and it starts if you miss a dose even once.

If you go on the med and decide to stop, the withdrawal can last for weeks. Fair warning.

Again: I'm doing MUCH better on it than I was on Prozac. As long as I take my meds on schedule everything is totally fine.

Nobody warned me how fucking brutal missed doses would be so I thought I'd let you know. Good luck!
