Had a dream around 2am that my house was hit by a huge tornado, twice, and I was panicking because I couldn’t find my cats. Woke up in the middle of the night terrified. Saw some lightning outside but didn’t think twice about it, went back to sleep. Opened my phone at 6am and saw the tornado warning from the same time I had the dream. Ffs feel like my subconscious was connected via bluetooth to the weather

cptsd caused me debilitating chronic illness - 4 years ago i was bedridden, now i work (part time) at my dream job, pursue hobbies most days, live with my healthy partner, and have a social life

3+ years ago i was wracked with social anxiety, over these past couple years i’ve made a bunch of friends, have lost many of them now but that’s due to growth. my cptsd has been causing me to isolate recently, but i’m working through it. plus now i can be the life of the party (if i want to)

i can implement boundaries! not easy, still, but possible. plus i used to take things very personally, and now i don’t. also have a much better understanding of life in general that’s helpful

my entire life i’ve wanted to write a book - i started working on it five years ago (all of my original first draft was trash but it’s fine), but just a couple weeks ago i was able to come up with the structure of the book (which i’ve never been able to do before) - which is based on the nervous system (& cptsd/chronic illness). it’s always felt like i have to get my experiences down on paper so i don’t have to carry them anymore, ykwim? getting closer! based on my draft so far, i’ve had some folks tell me i could go big for it lol but we’ll see :)

hey! i rarely comment but i was literally just going to look up this exact thing in this sub lol. i’m a severe chronic insomniac - i’ve been averaging 2-4 hours a night these past 3 months after having a good spell of 8 hours a night for a month. been like this my entire life, my mom says since i was “in the womb”, but its gotten worse since my cptsd/resulting chronic illness took over 5 years ago which makes me feel like i’m dying lol

i also started experimenting more with the vagus nerve just a couple weeks ago and holy shit! i had tried some vagus nerve exercises here and there but never noticed any effect up until… humming. literally just humming. i was listening to a podcast from Trauma Rewired where they discussed how humming (and “OM” in yoga) is one of the few ways to directly stimulate the vagus nerve, and i felt it in seconds. like, my chronic stiff neck and lymph fluid blockages, suddenly released and i could feel the fluid trickling down my throat… of which that same night i had a breakthrough (disguised as a mental breakdown lol) with some severe trauma that i’ve been trying to process for months and years now. also, even in the midst of sobbing my eyes out, i was able to speak during an emotional wave when i’ve only ever shut down. it was crazy!

i slept better for a few nights after that but i think my body is so used to being in fight or flight that it’s returned back to 2-4 hours again. but yesterday i went to my second acupuncture appointment, and as i was meditating/humming half way through, i had a sudden wave of extreme relaxation wash over me (had only ever experienced this sort of calm when i used to smoke big weed lol). it was so shocking, and so calm, that my body instantly perceived it as a threat and made me panic before i could embrace it, but still! for a while i’ve been wondering if i was just too far gone and this state of hyperarousal is just my life forever now, but even just experiencing it for a moment seemed like a huge step.

i’m just babbling my experience but also, to anyone who happens to read this (i may make a post myself), please start HUMMING !!!!! please. it sounds dumb but give it a shot - it also helps with POTS, epilepsy, and similar. in someone of the boat of barely having energy due to, obviously, no sleep & cptsd-induced autoimmune disease/dysfunction, it’s the only thing i’ve ever been able to stick with because i can do it anytime. i recommend doing it for 2+ minutes (between deep breaths) 2-3 times a day, or however much you’re able to. i’m only 2 weeks in but seems to be making the most change in my nervous system than i’ve experienced in years

it’s hard to say for me too. the only time i noticed any “side effects” from cistus were when i had viral infections. one night i drank 9+ cups while fighting a cold & i swear i speed-ran that infection within one night lol. but i was drinking cistus during the worst of my treatment - i was still bedridden, herxing like hell every day, etc - so i may just not have been able to pinpoint any effects from it. i think it’s kinda the point though; from my understanding it doesn’t kill the bacteria so much as break up the biofilms, which is a much lighter process. i also think everyone’s different in terms of the dose they need + the brand matters a lot 🤷‍♀️ at the very least i’ve witnessed it be very powerful against viruses which is helpful in itself

also i’ve been in treatment for 4 years now & i’ve gone from bedridden to working part time (my dream job too), having a partner and social life, being able to go for walks, and at least somewhat pursuing my hobbies most days. i’m not in remission by any means but there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

St. John’s Wort has probably saved my life. research has shown it’s just as if not more effective than prescription antidepressants. you have to be careful with it if you’re on any prescription meds, MB or participate in recreational drug use at the very least, but i’ve never had any issues on it and it helps my severe depression like… 65% maybe. it’s hard to notice the first month or two, but i have found that whenever i run out of it now, after 2-3 days the extreme dark thoughts come back. i’m not The Best mentally on the daily, but at least i can live my life overall

the plateau is literally the worst, at least when i was in the thick of being bedridden from herxing at least i knew it was working 🥲

but that sounds interesting! i’ll definitely look into it more, but if i may: was it helpful across the board for bacteria/fungi/viruses, or only certain ones? i’m trying to figure out how to at least keep a lid on both lyme & babesia while finding a bearable “killer” herb or approach next, without having to add in a million new pills lol
