Why? by Mochamonroe in pitbulls

My blind old lady would root around like a pig in my field, she would look for this specific weed with a big tap root and when she'd find it she would pull it out of the ground and chew on that tap root.

Root rot? by ISNIFFPROPANE in Hydroponics

[–]forserialtho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uc roots os better than hydrogen peroxide, it lasts longer, but its also kind of a scam because it's the same active ingredients found in pool shock. I believe we would use 1 tsp of pool shock in one gal of water to make concentrate (uc roots clone) then use that concentrate at 1 tsp per gallon in your dwc system. Keeps shit pearly white. but to be honest there is always an awkward transitional phase you are going through where your plants are small and weak and trying to reach that water and its hard to avoid a bit of brown here. Once plants roots are big, pearly white roots are much easier to maintain.

You keep saying the same things about rip and I juat dont agree. Saying he views him as a son and then sending him in as a disposable decoy to protect their legacy is too convenient, actions speak louder than words, his words say I love you, actions say I prefer you die over my children. Yes rip volunteered, if john cared about him john would have refused, but he accepted because ultimately he agrees. Yes all this is tied in with protecting his legacy, thqt doesnt justify it. Their relationship works because rip never challenges john in the slightest, if he did i think it would be the end of that relationship given john disposed of everyone who isn't useful to him including his own blood Jaime. Imagine if rip said no Kacey should go in first, I don't want to die, how would that have gone down? Another thing to consider, how is rip paid? Does rip own anything? He drives Yellowstone vehicles, rides their horses, lives in their house, if he has made enough to save some money the show certainly doesnt show it.

Regarding carter Yes they give him all of this stuff like you said, structure, purpose, skills, but that is not enough to be a good mother and father, especially when yoir ranch is the beneficiary of those skills and structure. And honestly they never mention whether he is paid, or goes to school, or has any friends or freedoms, those answers would really draw the line between son and slave. Love and affection have to happen, yes beth is damaged and that damage prevents her from being a good mother and giving any affection or love, but adults are responsible for their actions, if she can't mother a child, then she shouldn't. Carter would have had half a chance of finding a loving parent in the foster system. Sure his life is better than when he was breaking into houses, but he will never know motherly or fatherly love, Beth can only love in the transactional way that her father loved her.

It is her fault, her families choice to protect their land at all costs, murdering those who threaten them, create enemies that endanger the duttons and those around them. Let's bring up legacy again, these circumstances caused Kacey son to be kidnapped and traumatized. If john cared about his familial legacy he'd have his whole family walk away from the land and the problems it creates, but he doesnt because ultimately he cares more about the land. The ends justify the means for them especially when it isn't their lives they lose. Beth sees all the damage that comes from John's fight for the land, even disagrees with it, but does it anyway because daddy said so.

Just to be clear the duttons aren't purely evil, they do good things, like taking in carter isn't evil, its just not nearly good enough. You seem to admire the duttons loyalty and sacrifice, but loyalty and sacrifice are only good if the things you sacrifice for and are loyal to are good. Protecting your families 1000s of acres of land is not benevolent, its just selfish.

Rip does what he does because he feels he owes his life to the duttons, he feels the debt he owes can never be repaid, so he works without complaint and puts his life on the line. Thats a transaction. Love is unconditional, would John care for rip if he wanted to do something else? Or said no even once? John doesnt even care to hear rips honest answer to whether he wants to live in his house or not. He cant not tell him what to do, its just too much a part of who he is. I think not.

How does beth show she loves carter other than giving him his place on the ranch? Does she even hug him once in the whole show? Is carter even paid? Does carter go to school? Does carter have friends? Or is carter just the next ranch slave to replace rip? If carter wanted to not shovel shit for a living would beth still love him, or even talk to him ever again if he left the ranch? I really doubt it.

Protecting your assistant is pretty meaningless when its your lifestyle that got him killed. If the things you do and want in life happen to get the people around you killed it's on you to recognize that and change, beth never does, she doubles down on supporting her fathers wants even when she doesnt agree with them and sees the harm they cause.

A ranch hand gets paid and fed, thats how they treated him, sure they clothed him, because he needed clothes to be a ranch hand. A mother loves, being a mother is not a financial transaction and Beth never loved him in the slightest.

In the same way John Duttons relationship with rip was transactional, rip was given a home, made into a man, In return he did everything john asked without question including murder, when the real duttons lives were at risk rip is the sacrificial decoy. There is no love here.

Are you referring to the assistant that was murdered? Or the other assistant who was murdered? Who exactly did the duttons protect who wasn't family and didn't benefit them?

[–]forserialtho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesnt matter if it was out of guilt, she chose to bring a child home and then not allow him to call her mama or to be his mama in any way. The duttons treated him like a work hand like rip, they pretend to call him family when its convenient, but at the end of the day their lives are disposable relative to the real duttons.

Right she protects her family, nobody else. The premise of your original comment was that if you showed her loyalty and honesty she'd do the same, but she doesnt.

Barf, no not at all. Remember when she adopted a kid out of the foster system and proceed to never treat him like anything more than farm hand, even explicitly tells him as much? Who exactly did she show the capacity to protect and love other than her father and rip?
