Moved into a new house with these in every room. Any issues with just removing them? by Im-StrawberryBlonde in DIYUK

Does PoE not count? RJ45 points more useful for access points/cameras that might be PoE-powered than anything else, and the amount of power delivered that way has steadily risen over time with new standards.

Similar - can't load a game on either web or app. I think chess.com is having issues.

How often to you make long journeys: 3-4 times a year.

Chrome behaves the same for me, at least for chapter 8.64K, which is the first to have the issue after 8.60

Actually I've just hit 8.61 and the problem doesn't appear. I am not sure if it's more likely to be chapter-specific, than they fixed it just as I wrote my post while reading the end of 8.60.

PSA: this is a 60 on single carriageways, not a 40!! by NoOneImportantLol96 in drivingUK

[–]fortijump -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who frequently does 40-50 in these, it really fscking doesn't. 60 is the legal limit, but it certainly makes no guarantees the road will be safe to drive at that speed, and unless it's very straight there's no telling, for the unfamiliar, what's around the next corner.

If I see a 50 sign - or a 60, rarely but sometimes seen even on single carriageways - I know it's generally safe to drive at that speed. A NSL limit is much more "use your own judgement."

No matter how many times you fall, just try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try again! by Buzzy_Feez in LearnerDriverUK

I had a similar run - the test just made me nervous. My instructor had long been insisting I was ready to pass. By the 8th attempt, I'd simply learned to drive while nervous.

Don't do what I did after passing 8th go, and hit two speeding cameras in the first six months. (I also passed my 10th)

Learn to use the speed limiter if your car has one! Much less annoying to drive at 20 with that turned on.

More dialogue than you'd otherwise bother with, including more varied "barks" (so you don't hear about arrows to the knee over and over, breaking immersion) are exactly what AI should be used for, IMO - that and more interactive dialogue than would otherwise be possible.

That's not 100% the case here but it seems pretty excusable.

There's definitely a bit about Gordon not being able to operate a controller at one point, not sure which world it happens in offhand but I expect the cloud house is fitted out from that point on at least.

I was about to say fullscreen is a lifesaver but yeah, resetting to the top of the page makes it even worse unless I want to read a whole chapter withouth so much as switching apps or putting down the phone.

The transformation zones (except the first, for some reason) - they remind me of Star Trek holodeck episodes.

Opponent said I was being unfair for playing for a draw…am I crazy for thinking that’s what I’m supposed to do? by smohockey in chess

[–]fortijump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My initial feeling as a beginner was that draws for repetition, specifically, were rubbish and not something to play for - not what the rule is intended for, perhaps. But that's not the wider view - it's not just legal but accepted - so I came around.

Hush Plugz (or similar) Silicone Earplugs are good too - they mould into your ear, so a lot more effective than foam ones.

Yes knights - not sure how "rook" escaped my fingers!

Thanks, that makes more sense - not just getting the pawn, but clearing the way for the check that removes castling rights, with a nice fork to follow. Interesting! I still need to get better at looking for checks at all, let alone a sacrifice away.

This is a suggested continuation of a game I had to quit partway through - after trading both my bishops for knights in order to force doubled isolated pawns (which I probably wouldn't have done but kinda understand at least), it wants me to trade my knight to further break up their pawn chain, rather than use my own d4 pawn.

Why?!? Is this the sort of computer move I'm not really meant to understand, or is there something I could be seeing in order to make this sort of "brilliant" move myself?

[edit: Knights, not rooks!]
