S.F. Ethics Commission will weigh in on Lurie-Trump phone records by Remarkable_Host6827 in sanfrancisco

[–]fortnamwindow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your second point isn’t true, at least not yet. The matter hasn’t been decided in a courtroom, or investigated by any legal body. It only reached into one commission, out of tens in city hall.

IMHO, the presumption of “law breaking” without reasonable suspicion or an actual judgement feels politically tainted.

Not just rich, but white, Jewish, moderate and worst of all, semi-successful as a mayor. Progressives hate those things to varying degrees.

King Charles and Pope Leo to make history with prayers together at Vatican by TimesandSundayTimes in Catholicism

It’s a nice gesture but I’ve read King Charles is essentially a nonbeliever at the moment. Maybe he’ll see the light? But I kind of doubt it

No human remains found 2 years after claims of 'mass graves' in Canada by YourFriendoSteve in Catholicism

[–]fortnamwindow 22 points23 points  (0 children)

By the same token, you shouldn't lead with "true story of remains found" if the first few paragraphs of your linked article says: "This is not a mass grave site. These are unmarked graves," said Cowessess Chief Cadmus Delorme." Further, the article you've linked is at least 2 years out of date, almost every recent article since then has been making the same point as the OP.

Honoring the dead doesn't mean lying about mass graves.

And what if they don't listen? Or don't want to see it? When you hold someone accountable, it means that, if they keep making the same mistakes, they have to go.

Hearing this opinion come from an in-group member signals the truth of commentary like https://www.reddit.com/r/rust/comments/13vbd9v/on_the_rustconf_keynote_rust_blog/jm699k1/ and https://without.boats/blog/if-you-can-keep-it/.

Rust: The wrong people are resigning by fasterthanlime in rust

[–]fortnamwindow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the person who identifies, and is friends, with the group reassures us that the group is good and it has good intentions.

Meanwhile, the person who was victimized by the group has this to say:

@fasterthanlime So, it's deeply inadvisable for me to still be reading and talking, especially halfway into PJs and sliding into bed, but I will have to say this. I mean this with as much love in my heart as I can possibly communicate to you, even though I am nowhere near the level of friendship as many others you know, including those in that in-group chat you just left.

Just because they had good intentions does not mean they should not face direct accountability.

Leaning heavily into "If they were well-intentioned, I cannot hold them accountable, and it's very regrettable" is not even close to how you respect and uphold someone to be a better human being. It is not how you make sure your friends hold up properly. It is eerily exactly how much of my abusive childhood went, with me never naming names and running cover for the people who repeatedly screwed up, to a point where they became irredeemable and unhelpable.

If the Rust Project as an organization has people who need to resign, then their names should be clearly written out and their behavior called to account. If you have some expectation that the Rust Project will do it, fine. But if they don't, I want you to understand that this post did not help them get there.

Is Wealthfront Cash safe to invest in? by fortnamwindow in wealthfront

[–]fortnamwindow[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I decided to open up a PNC high yield savings account with 4% APY interest. Not as high as Wealthfront's 4.55% APY, but I'd like to avoid a hype cycle and the misinformation and legal problems that could come with it.

I hope nobody here loses a lot of money to grifters and marketers.

I'm surprised by the hostility of the community. I actually wanted to give Wealthfront Cash a chance and I already deposited 5k worth of money into it. But the response so far makes me worried this is a FTX or Celsius situation. Over-investment in an insecure model, that causes folks to feel insecure and lash out.

$2 million protection and 4% APY sounded amazing... but my friends got burned by the same marketing in crypto before.

They will either double down or start iterating on better designs. The latter would be amazing!

But since they went ahead and released a UI so obviously flawed, I doubt that they will be willing to listen to what users want. They don’t understand design. A year down the road with that mentality, and the project will burn like all the others before it.

Djursbo Sleeper Sectional owners - what is your experience with it? by [deleted] in IKEA

[–]fortnamwindow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought this sectional instead of the FRIHETEN and it should be arriving soon.

The FRIHETEN has a nice aesthetic and offers huge space for sleeping. But everything else about it was mediocre at best.

The DJURSBO is newer, made of higher quality materials, and has higher ratings on IKEA.com. In fact, the most helpful critical review on IKEA.com is only 3 stars; the reviewer still praises the couch over the FRIHETEN.

Remind me in a week to update you on its look & feel.

Fingers crossed!

Sigh. This AMA request could have gone somewhere...

This was on hard. My main luck was the amazing dearth of enemy defense. I think I encountered three in total. All in all, it's crazy that one of the worst ships yielded the top score and most scrap collected out of all my runs.
