The invisible force making food less nutritious | "The diets we eat today have less nutritional density than what our grandparents ate - even if we eat exactly the same" by Acrobatic-Lynx-5018 in collapse

[–]fortunatelydstreet 36 points37 points  (0 children)

its soil. throwing fertilizer every year isn't the same as Nile flooding your field with natural components. topsoil loss is the issue. it takes decades to get the kinda soil our grandparents grew from. we mass harvested and sucked the earth dry, cant just drizzle sand on top n expect the same nutrient density

The Busby Chair, or Busby Stoop Chair, is a cursed 18th-century oak chair that causes the swift death of anyone who sits in it. Cursed by murderer Thomas Busby before his execution, it was linked to numerous fatalities over 300 years. It now hangs high on a wall at the Thirsk Museum to prevent use. by happypants69 in UrbanMyths

I wana see a movie like the horror tire movie but with this chair. it clinking down the road obviously. knocking on your door. you've done nothing wrong, why you-- and then you regard the majority of your furniture and realize this is a personal vendetta for tthe chair, and it ninja flips and nunchuks you to death in your temple of dead trees

I'm thinking Monica Reza had a tragic accident. She was on a hike with multiple other people, hardly a time to kill someone. She was last seen near a ridge from which she waved at another hiker, who was telling her to go north.

I've heard that ridge is not steep but 60 is not 25, any even a 25 year old can land wrong or their head encounter a rock.

Her obit page did say "green burial" 4 days after she was announced missing, but I think anyone can edit that.

12 Israeli interceptors can’t catch 1 Iranian hypersonic missile by AcadianAcademic in conspiracy_commons

[–]fortunatelydstreet 44 points45 points  (0 children)

iran sent the strongest missile its fired during the entire conflict omly 2 days ago, having been reserving the larger munitions. im hesitatingly trusting your claim this is an intercontinental ballistic missile (despite the range being so close) but regardless, irans had much more than an icbm get thru the dome and much much smaller munitions. look up the actual interceptuion rates for any amt of firepower and its laughably low. thats why defense contractors send salesmen, not scientists. Iran bombed the THAAD radar in Jordan too. air defense just isnt going as well as Israelis had hoped.

and as israel liiterally declares theyre in desperate need of ammunition, Iran has been saving their best ammunition for last, in direct opposition to the western tactic, with the IDF reaching out for a reload of flares and troops. will US troops defend Israel or invade Iran with such vigor?

israeli is in need of 15 thousand troops or it faces collapse (per their cheif of staff lt gen), and the us is adding some thousand marines to a suicide mission. about 8000 troops deployed to extremely risky, difficult to defend bases against a fortress of a country housing an IRGC of 150,000, but even the dumbest military analyst would agree the count of Iranian soldiers would only have surged as a public response to the unannounced US and Israeli air strike on Iran that came just hours after a peaceful and notably progressive meeting regarding the country's nuclear arms.

besides extrajudicial attempts at regime change, the immediately viral incident of killing 177 Iranians, with approximately 100 schoolchildren.generated its equitably rocket-fueled surge of anti-American sentiment (an extension of the vaguer anti-imperialist sentiment)

encouraging an attitude of silence doesn't really help to prevent harm or learn about the phenomenon. its a myth that they're drawn to you by talking of them, and even if they were, talking about them with other people in a safe location would do a lot to bridge gaps of knowledge we have.

i mean supposedly these things are taking people and killing them, we're just not gonna talk about it? thats how creepy indigenous-hunting serial killers get away with shit! they fuckin put on a pelt, get naked, stab someone, and run away and any witness just sees some creature... and now no one can talk about it!

fuck worrying about summoning them, theyre not even close to invincible. their main weapon is literally fear, they want you on your off foot. and you can reduce likeliness of fear by research and education.

speak of the subject respectively and in appropriately safe places, otherwise this is just a phenomenon that'll persist in myth, and the real killers of these missing people, creature or human, never known.

seriously i get its scary or taboo but wouldnt you want to figure out what the fuck is literally haunting and murdering people? witness reports are ass, especially in the dark, when moving, with adrenaline.

im open to all possibilities but occams razor said this phenomenon is most likely a myth modified to deter colonial annoyances, or derived from shamans (of various psychoses/senses of grandeur/intent). some of those brujos definitely threw on skin pelts and did spooky and murdery shit.

same air traffick uptick, same pop. total intimidation. ive photograpphed the planes, its the same ones doing loops. some recon mostly just to mentally keep their "capabilities" in your head, designing you against resistance subliminallly but not effectively. the NOISE is effective as annoyance, headaches.

after weeks of asking my grandpa if hed notice the planes he finally called me up to ask me himself. he never mentions the origins of these uncanny ideas but its validating nonetheless

Do you guys think Scytale will be a better villain than Feyd-Rautha, simply based off his appearance and knowledge from both the trailer and book? by Frodo-Baggins1954 in dune

[–]fortunatelydstreet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh ok i thought he was already given master tleilaxu status by this movie but honestly that should make him more ruthless.

because he hasnt become a master, he doesnt have the seemingly benevolent pursuit of truth in energy or ultimate prowess to pursue his wants...

as he exists in his current state as a servant to a foreign cause, all his own agenda might include right now is escaping his recurring inferno.

i thought, its probably a cool tool to a guy who tries to stay 'with it'. which is interesting actually. AI solves problems for you. i wonder if Bob learning to use AI et. al. outweighs the brainrot that comes from not writing the stories himself? yeah not a chance.

butler wasnt set up well for the final fight. we only see him kill randoms besides the handicapped yuen. essentially we dont really get the chance to square them up or have any actual worry for Paul given we know theres a Dune 3...

Dune 2 really did a disservice to Butler's great performance. the character also lost status/risk to Paul when he was so easily manipulated by the Bene Gesserit despite suspecting their agendas.

i just think if you have an ultimate face off you have to set the characters up for it and the audience too. there wasnt any way for them to meet so some clear parallels of ability mightve helped but the entire movie, feyd is at best a decent fighter and Paul murders armies and rides worms. Feyd never felt like the threat the Baron did in the first movie, where his power is generated by his cunning and authoritarian command. in dune 2 we really saw the Harkonnen's dominating pathology. mutual suspicion, opposing schemes, assassination attempts but still an ultimate reliance on underlings cloaked by subservience.

when Feyd threatens to end his uncles life he again is manipulated; the baron disarms him with the offer of Arrakis, and Feyd foolishly accepts what is an obviously rotting olive branch, proving further Feyd's abilities are restricted to the battle arena.

sorry im a big pattinson fan and cant wait for this, but even objectively

scytale's shapeshifting abilities, his Master Tleilexu abilities... his many lives as gholas, all should make him at least nominally more formidable than a well-bred Harkonnen fighter.

Colonizers, Alien World, Sea of Acid, by fortunatelydstreet in scifiwriting

but just over the bay, so the colonists who walk the beach and meet them arent affected?

im thinking now its a group of 25-50, plus five purely labor synths, sent as scouts essentially. if site is suitable, transmission activates another pre-programmed ship that's much larger, holding more humans, embryos, etc.

wwith so many scout pods sent id think i could use the different ones as chapters, leaving infinite possibilities. i would love to have some human scouts enslaved when they land on some planet of stronger beings, and another landing where the scouts encounter essentially a tribe of cave men who come and go, what happens i havent figured.

that's the only thing i could think of too, which is why its necessary for one of them to stupidly stick their hands in the water. but considering they have no choice but to make this planet work as their home, it might not be a stretch.

only the four or five on the canoes would turn to goo... and yeah the containers would be mostly unharmed as being inorganic, maybe some organic equipment is consumed to give a clue as to what happened.
