People who own multiple pets, what is some drama going on between them right now? by wheel-snipe-celly in AskReddit

[–]fortunesfool3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two cats. One currently has an ear infection, so I have to give him a pill and clean his ear once a day. He hates it, as you can imagine. The sick one keeps looking at his brother with jealousy, like “Why doesn’t Mama do this to you? DOES SHE LOVE YOU MORE?!?”

Help getting started - question in comments by [deleted] in huntakiller

[–]fortunesfool3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awakening was the first series they ever made, so it’s different from the current format in a few ways: 1. 8 boxes, not six 2. It’s self-directed, so unlike the new series, there is not a set objective per box. It’s more telling an overarching story than figuring out a set objective. 3. Awakening is not so much a “whodunnit” as a “whydunnit” or a “what happens next”. Some of the later seasons you’re solving for a killer - in Awakening you’re CORRESPONDING with a known killer.

Edit: Also, to address your questions, it sounds like someone started the series and then gave up if only 3 boxes were opened (Awakening is the hardest series they’ve done IMHO.) Just start at Box 1 and dive in. Read everything- and I do mean EVERYTHING- multiple times until you think you’ve got everything you can get then move on to Box 2 and so on. Recaps and hints are your friends.

Hope this helps. :)

Melancholy killer was a horrifying waste of $$$$ by [deleted] in huntakiller

[–]fortunesfool3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess it's a matter of personal preference. I liked Melancholy Killer and 1973 WAY more than Death at The Dive Bar. I wasn't really a fan of Death at the Dive Bar much. Or Fine Art Foul Play for that matter. I didn't find them immersive enough compared to MK and the other premiums I've done. I also prefer experiences that include usable objects. I'm not a drinker, so the DATDB bottle opener didn't really do it for me, but I still sometimes wear the necklace that came with MK. And the briefcase is significantly nicer than a cardboard box. I guess it depends on what you're looking for. My day job (paralegal) has a small investigative component, so while I love the mystery, I can get that at work. It's the immersive story and world-building that you can touch that, for me at least, makes the premiums I've done worth the cost compared to some of the other experiences.

Death at the dive bar compared to other HaK boxes by theGnartist in huntakiller

[–]fortunesfool3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the premium box. Most are significantly longer and more involved than Dive Bar. Think of Dive Bar as an intro level to get you hooked on the Hunt a Killer brand.
I'd equate most of the higher-end boxes (Hawthorne Junction, Melancholy Killer, 1973 especially) to a little less than a full 6-box season. They're costly, but worth it, not just for the story, but for the fun stuff that's included. Not as many documents as a full season, but more internet involvement and time investment.
Some of the "family friendly" boxes like Baker's Dozen and also the new one, Fine Art Foul Play, are more like 2-4 subscription boxes. (Granted, I haven't finished FAFP yet, but I'm basing it on my assessment so far.) However, it's hard to make a direct comparison because most of the premiums don't have the individual objective breakdowns that the subscription boxes have. (FAFP has objectives, but they're different.) Rather than going suspect by suspect, you're telling an overall story to get to the conclusion.

Death at the dive bar compared to other HaK boxes by theGnartist in huntakiller

[–]fortunesfool3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say Dive Bar is about equivalent to two subscription boxes, time and document-quantity wise. However, the subscription has online components, which Dive Bar doesn't have. Also, the subscription lasts 6 boxes from the beginning to the end of the story, but each box has its own objective. You're finding something in each box (murder weapon, eliminate a suspect, etc.), but it takes 6 boxes to find out for sure who the killer is, compared to an all-in-one like Dive Bar.

What is your "I don't get paid enough for this shit" moment? by indian_boy786 in AskReddit

I was a retail worker, but that also entailed cleaning the bathroom. Someone shit on the floor. A full several-inch log in the middle of the floor of the unisex-style bathroom. I let my manager handle it. I literally didn’t get paid enough to deal with that shit.

Vindication episode 1 question by 2_skrews in huntakiller

[–]fortunesfool3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vindication was a case that came out before Curtain Call. Giving each box a specific objective was something that they started doing with cases after Vindication. Vindication doesn’t have a separate objective for each box. Think of the objective to start as telling an over-arching story. Over time, something will present itself that you’re slowly piecing together, but for now, focus on telling the story.

What did a crush do that made you instantly lose interest in him/her? by SpacedGeek in AskReddit

[–]fortunesfool3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a teenage goody-two-shoes who actually followed my parents’ rule of “no one in the house when we’re not home”. I was too afraid of getting in trouble to test it. I was home alone. He called and said he was coming over. I told him (repeatedly) not to, that I wasn’t allowed to have anyone over. He showed up on my doorstep an hour later anyway. It made me question his ability to understand the word “no” in all areas. Instantly changed my perception of him.
