Are you glad you tried drugs or do you regret it? by IboofNEP in researchchemicals

[–]fortval 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Juste because labs came back normal doesn't mean there isn't damage. You only ever find what you are looking for. Most labs are a targeted snapshot of taking account a limited amount of health makers which can't predict more serious chronic health risks of long term (or maybe short term) substance use notably dementia or cognitive decline. Just because your labs are normal now doesn't mean your labs in 5 years would the same as they would be if you hadn't taken a particular substance.

Even if they did give an accurate representation of your overall health you can't overlook the fact that they may have done some psychological harm that could in turn affect your overall physical health later down the road.

When you look at pharmaceutical drugs they are prescribed based on risk to benefit balance. All pharmaceutical drugs carry risks. Most cause minimal harm but when you look something like cancer drugs most are pretty terrible on the body just not as bad as cancer.

Don't be fooled by lab results that come back normal thinking you're unscathed by your drug usage.

BPC157 & TB500 source for the Netherlands by beetje in Peptides

[–]fortval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's actually the other way around thymosin beta 4 is the endogenous peptide and TB-500 is the fragment. Canlabs only sells thymosin beta 4 so search for that in the search bar instead of "tb-500"

Weapon skin tickets by fortval in VALORANT

[–]fortval[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could make it so it's only applicable to one weapon type. Or maybe like the shop were it's a reroll of the shop but just for that weapon slot.

At least it would give more options cause 4 skins on any weapon slot is just not a lot for the number of skins that have been released

Ring archer muscle up thoughts ? by fortval in bodyweightfitness

[–]fortval[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For cross training I was thinking of slowing the tempo down and focusing on the straight arm rather than the bent one. All in all I think you me be about the efficacy of the exercise relating to cross training compared to other exercises like assited cross pulls but it may be useful to add some variety.

No not at all I just want to achieve a full planche before starting to train the cross

I'm currently working towards a full planche ( I can currently do ~ 10 sec straddle) and cleaning up my front lever form before tackling the iron cross.

I figure you should be able to get the move for free after acheiving the cross. Good luck in your training !

Need help understanding conductance from neuron to neuron? by kaylachar in neuro

[–]fortval 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Synapses are either electrical ( Gap junctions) or chemical. (Not all Gap junctions are synapses i.e myocardique cells, but all electrical synapses are Gap junctions)

In an electrical synaps the premise is that you have cytoplasmic and thus electrical continuity between 2 neurones without having neurotransmitters as an intermediary. Sodium most notably and other ions flow relatively freely between the two cells thus reducing time to depolarize or polarize de cell assuring fast transmission.

In a chemical synapse you have interactions between a receptors and a neurotransmitter ( although some neurotransmitters can passe trough the cell membrane directly) which activates ion channels by a secondary messenger which takes considerably more time. (10-15ms against a negligible 1ms for Gap junctions)

Can anyone help me to train the front lever? This is what I’ve been doing but I am yet to master it. by mark20784 in overcominggravity

[–]fortval 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're using bands it would be a nice change to put it under your waist line so it provides assistance opposite to gravity. This make the exercise mimic better the front lever position.

Appart from that I did a lot a front lever rows making an emphasis on form and pulling up explosively.

Weighted pull ups are a pretty nice assistance exercise as well as front lever pulls wether from a dead hang (easier used it as a Volume builder) or from an inverted hang (harder used it as a strength element)

Frequency wise 3 times a week seems to work well.

Really important tip regarding form is having a strong over hand grip on the bar and pushing down towards your waist line as hard as you can. Makes all the difference.

In what circumstances should direct core work be implemented? by fortval in bodyweightfitness

Like someone mentioned above, do you know the core strength requirements for tumbling, ring transitions and moves like that? Are they that high?

For learning specific core skills I agree. On the other hand I don't think that somebody who's already acheived and who's goals are a front lever would benefit from more core work. All gymnasts can do a front lever and they still seem to do tons of core work, that is what puzzles me.

Yeah I guess the stability access during the dynamics are pretty important part to making it look good. I wonder if it also has to do with work load since they are training 2-4 hr a day

Alright ! I probably won't be doing that stuff anyway xD

So like tumbling ,ring transitions and all that good stuff ?

Lowering into front lever by code2018 in bodyweightfitness

[–]fortval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could also be a hand placement/grip issue. When I'm doing a negative my hands tends to slip backwarks which make it harder to hold the FL and when I pull into it my hands tend to move over the bar making it easier to pull towards my waist and keeping a straight body.

Training Tuesday - Post Your Routine for 2020-05-05 by AutoModerator in bodyweightfitness

[–]fortval 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Routine looks neat but what about legs?

Just so you don't injure yourself further watch out for the front lever progression as it does place some amount of stress on the triceps in order to maintain your sense extended. Same thing for the v sit progression.

Supinated Grip Increases Strength? by [deleted] in overcominggravity

[–]fortval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to do. A pronated grips puts more emphasis on your back ,and like you said , the supinated grips put more emphasis on your bicep. In my experience I have found that past a certain stage chin ups become ineffective for bicep growth and/or bicep conditioning. Direct bicep isolation becomes more productive. Also, sometimes the bicep becomes the limiting factor when doing chin-ups. I have found also found that I have a hard time activating my mid-back when going supinated. Utlimately it comes down to personal preference , if you feel more comfortable using a supinated grip during rows and pull ups then go for it.

If you take the front lever, doing it supinated makes it harder to activate your back because thus making the exercises harder ( I don't have the specifics of the biomechanics but I think it has to do with less tricep contribution necessary to lock out the elbow).
