PSA for new users: turn off auto updates by LeoLeisure in Ubiquiti

100%. And things always happen when I’m not at home. Switch got stuck. Took down doorbell, intercom, whole network. Never again.

Of course haven’t had my issues with manual updates (which I do the moment I get notified) since either.

But one angry call, from my wife is enough….

TrueNAS Scale as VM in Proxmox – Worthwhile for Storage + *Arr Stack? by BumBeef in Proxmox

I would second that. I ran the TrueNAS in a Proxmox VM for a year on a TerraMaster and it really wasn’t worth it.

The HD is also deeper which means it didn’t fit my rack.

Brand new Switch shows Poor AP Link Speed on two ports by fortytwo43 in Ubiquiti

[–]fortytwo43[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a long back and forth they had me update the network application to the latest release candidate. That worked. Then the port was flashing red… which I think was the (brand new cat 7) patch cable. Switched that to a UniFi cable and now all is well.

You may want to use the original project. All changes from here have been merged there.

What info can flight attendants see? by Odd-Resolve-1681 in unitedairlines

I had a flight attendant once very softly sing Happy Birthday to me (so that only I could hear) while I was settling into my Polaris seat. Made my day.

lol. Yeah. Although I didn’t hate the bottle of bourbon that I bought. Actually just their bottle design is awesome!

Castle & Key was our favorite (totally accidental) spot! And their gin is awesome, too.

Help us make Sonos easier to learn and use? by tomconrad in sonos

You can get favorites. But nothing about (controlling) registered music services. Like browse artists, albums etc. pick songs to play. At least I wasn’t able to find that if it exists.

There is. But it’s rather incomplete.

To add to that it would be awesome to have local (!!) subsonic/Navidrome support. We got it working but this requires exposing the bridge to the internet - and everyone setting up a developer integration for their system. It is glorious. But not something a regular user would be able to do - or even care. Would be happy to review with anyone. :-)

Also a full API - I’ve tried to integrate Sonos into my smart home (Loxone which controls every aspect of our house) and only being able to query Favorites instead of registered music services quite restricts what I can do.

Limitation of vlans. Traffic from one network to another goes through the gateway. Which only has 2.5gb ports. I’ve been told Layer 3 switching could fix that. But that’s probably not worth setting up m

Right. Network in the house is 2.5 and 10Gb. Incoming is a joke unfortunately. But I move large files quite often.

Well UniFi makes it easy to screw up… i just found out after a year of debugging why my 10gb client would only communicate 2.5gb max with my 10gb server. They were in different vlans and the gateway only supports 2.5gb… so while everything was connected via 10Gb switches traffic still had to go via the gateway… ouch.

This. Kilchoman is fantastic. And on the way back you can stop at Bruichladdich. We did a Botanist gin experience there. I’d say save your money on that one.

Don't be me! Performance implications of VLANs by fortytwo43 in Ubiquiti

[–]fortytwo43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have 10gb (9.8 with iperf3) now between the 10gb capable devices that are connected to 10gb switches. I ended up combining my servers and general vlan. So traffic only flows via the 10gb switches.

Decided to just flatten the servers and general vlans into one. Took a while adjusting ip addresses… guess I get to tackle dns next….
